Need urgent advice for a tiny kitten!

I've rescued a kitten who has been rejected by it's mum. It was one of two, Mum took the bigger one and never returned. Poor little thing was calling for her all yesterday and it broke my heart keeping my distance but today it started to go very quiet and shakey so I've taken it in. I know nothing about kittens no idea how old it is (fits easily into my hand, massive eyes and ears, very skinny wobbly legs that look a bit too long for its little body). I've given it tiny drops of milk from a syringe (sp?) prob takes 1ml at a time before it starts to refuse. What do I do (mostly regarding feeding but other advice would be much appreciated)? Live abroad so no shelters or rescue homes so I'm on my own with this one.

Ohh lovely, I'm so sorry Sad

It would not have been anything you did, I promise.

Maybe you could make a bit of a show later of 'taking Coco to the vets' then tell them in a few days.

I'm so sorry. You helped her battle to enjoy a couple of weeks of love in your family, that is more than so many other little cats have.

MrsHelsBels74 · 22/05/2012 18:30

I'm so sorry, I really wasn't expecting that. At least you gave Coco love & care during her time with you & you know that you did your best x

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/05/2012 19:15

You did all you could, she was loved, fed and warm. Poor Coco, she wouldnt have survived this long if you hadnt taken her in.

DialsMavis · 22/05/2012 19:16

I have been following this thread, but haven't posted before now, I am so sorry about Coco... you really did do all that you possibly could for her. Sad Sad Sad

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 22/05/2012 19:16

I've been lurking, badgers, but had to come and say something at that news. I'm so so sorry, but as everyone else has said, it is NOT anything you did ? she was a weak, tiny kitten, probably the runt of her litter, and weak tiny kittens will just die sometimes.

And she had SO much love and care lavished on her for her short life. She was a lucky cat in a lot of ways. You couldn't have done any more.

xxx and hugs

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 22/05/2012 19:19

Aww so sorry to hear about your kitten. I used to work for an animal rescue charity and we often hand reared kittens. Sometimes they would just die. It's called fading kitten syndrome. No real reason for it but it can even be due to the mother not be well nourished during pregnancy. So it is nothing that you did just one of those things. Very sad for you.

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2012 19:29

So it's a bit like 'failure to thrive' CatToBe? I wonder if that's why Coco's Mum left her behind?

She was so lucky to be scooped up by 3, and showered with love and attention.

ripsishere · 22/05/2012 19:30

Another massive ((((((())))))) to you. Please be assured that it was not your fault. Like You'vecat posted 10 minutes ago, sometimes they are so weak they can't make it.
I agree with the big show of taking the cat to the vet, maybe do it tomorrow while your DS is having his grommets. If it's any comfort, my DD had hers done in Switzerland and she was a new child after.
Look after yourself and give yourself a pat on the back for caring enough in a country where animals are not a priority (I've lived in several) and a large Wine because you deserve it.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 22/05/2012 19:31

I think so Sparkling although they can look like they are thriving and doing really well but they can still decline rapidly within a couple of hours..Sad

fridakahlo · 22/05/2012 20:55

You did a ton and a half more for her than a lot of people would and she died with a full belly, lying peacefully in the sun, knowing that she was loved.
Good luck with telling the dc Sad

HazeltheMcWitch · 22/05/2012 21:42

Oh, 3, I am so sorry.
As a cat lover, I am very grateful to you for loving Coco and ensuring that she felt love in her short life.
