@BaileyKat mumsnet terrifies me too! That’s why I only post on this board. I’ve found everyone to be very supportive and sensible, and I’ve picked up some great tips.

@Hemskis she is beautiful. I know what you mean about the classes. Midge was so responsive in his 1-1 lessons but an absolute hooligan in the group class. I’ve recently gone back to group classes and I’ve found that now he’s older he’s much less likely to get distracted by the other dogs. He’s just passed his KC bronze award so I’m hoping to start the Silver classes in September. At 18 months he’s one of the older ones in the class and those few months have made such a difference.

That gives me hope, @Nella68 ! Bill in a group class right now would be absolute chaos 😄

@SpanielsGalorethat sounds like Bailey, tongue out to the side and virtually down to his knees! Thank you for telling me that 🙂.
I am a worrier, and used to a much calmer breed, B was my partners choice. I do wish he’d calm it down a little though, I definitely need to work on engagement.

Give it another few years or ten and he'll get there. 😂

Here's one of mine in full flight, tongue on show. And we're only ten minutes or so into our walk at this point.

I rarely post on anything outside of The Doghouse.
I do read other topics and am sometimes tempted to comment, but then think why bother exposing myself to other people's bat shit craziness!

@CoubousAndTourmalet I am one of those irresponsible owners. 🙈 My dog gatecrashed someone's picnic once. He was muzzled, so couldn't eat anything. But he gave the sandwiches a damn good bashing in his attempts to pick them up. 😂
I laugh now, but I didn't at the time.

VanGoSunflowers · 13/07/2025 15:22

@CoubousAndTourmalet
Regular posters on AIBU are strangely proud of their epithet of ‘nest of vipers’ and I think they’ve all been extra grumpy the past few days. Perhaps due to the heat. Many of them do not understand nuance, will jump down your throat at the slightest thing and are known to prevaricate constantly, engage in debate in bad faith and just all seem to enjoy arguing with one another.

The vibe over there is so totally different to how it is on this thread! I think I’ve been on MN for just over a decade and the AIBU board used to terrify me, too. I now mainly find it comical to read through some of the ridiculous shit people come out with when they’re protecting by the anonymity of the internet.

I did have a read through those comments and they missed all of your points spectacularly! Hope you’re ok x

brushingboots · 13/07/2025 15:48

I never post outside The Doghouse either, but I do read. I think of Mumsnet like Radio 2 and the Mail – useful for understanding different perspectives, and as a hack that's essential.

As we always say, this is a safe, non-judgemental space and long may it continue.

@Nella68 Well done to Midge (and you!) on passing his bronze! How fabulous.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 13/07/2025 16:29

Still here. I nearly ran away after another kicking, but am toughing it out and even just posted a photo of my hair on the long hair over 40 thread 😱

Brie has been an angel during this hot spell. So calm and quiet.

Puppy thing has sadly fallen through, but hey, I have my darling girl and she's finally becoming more cuddly 🤗

@Nella68 That's brilliant! I am in awe of all those of you with properly trained dogs. Seriously.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 13/07/2025 16:31

Thank you @VanGoSunflowers
Sadly, I don't have Bupster's way with humour. I must stop trying to be clever and just zip it. The more anxious I am, the more my gob goes into overdrive.

Bupster · 13/07/2025 16:31

Oh my God, @CoubousAndTourmalet , I'm on page 13 of that thread and it's demented! It's like every exaggerated MN insanity has come to life like a Disney movie and posted on a single thread. Dogs are evil! Children shouldn't picnic! Why aren't you washing grapes? Dogs have eaten chocolate for 80 years! My grandad's dog was a grape! It's delicious.

Honestly I wouldn't worry at all, you have been hit by the crazed crossfire, not in the least your fault. I'm going to get some metaphorical popcorn and finish the thread, while I wait for Bill to wake himself up farting. Here he is half an hour ago, basically for you and @LandSharksAnonymous as I know you appreciate his side eye. He was making me hold a stuffed 'orrible 'orn for him while he lounged.

Thanks @Bupster . Quite honestly I was probably asking for trouble. What can I say. Summer variant of cabin fever with this heat; can't go for a decent walk, knitting goes squeaky on the needles from sweaty hands, paint dries too fast. Been reading a bit but the heat is so boring now😩

Do love Bill. Sorry everyone, all pups here are gorgeous, but Bill is hands down the cutest in my eyes. Smitten 😍would even excuse him the farting. Well, maybe....🤔

Hemskis · 13/07/2025 16:41

@LandSharksAnonymous it's at 6.30 and she is always hyper or tired it seems. It has at least helped her get used to being around other dogs. You gave me some excellent advice when I posted back when Freya was 12 weeks on getting her to ignore people and dogs and I'm pleased to say that she is doing really well. She would love to greet everyone but accepts that she doesn't get to.
@Nella68 thank you, I think she's the most beautiful dog of course:) She does turn mud colour quickly when playing. There's a stream nearby that she loves to run around in and get muddy.

Today I have been a terrible owner because I mended all the broken stuffies so she can't pull the insides out and then I had the audacity to wash her big golden retriever toy. I was watched closely with disapproving looks. That poor stuffed dog was so manky after all the fights and jumping though!

@CoubousAndTourmalet that’s an impressive head of hair you have!
I’m glad you’re toughing it out, I would miss your Brie updates. I agree with you about Bill, he is such a character and seeing him makes me smile

LandSharksAnonymous · 13/07/2025 16:47

Oh isn’t he a handsome little man @Bupster 😍

I think the hot weather is getting to me, because my first thought was ‘doesn’t the ear flap fur look so soft.’

I know what you mean...He's just got a kissable face I think...he looks velvety.

VanGoSunflowers · 13/07/2025 17:05

@Bupster so handsome 😍
@Hemskis she is also a stunner. I do think all the dogs on these threads are absolute beauties though. It’s definitely a display of gorgeous looking doggos!

It’s gone overcast here - still hot but slightly more comfortable outside because there is a breeze. DS (who is 7) is playing some adorable little games with Pablo. He had hit sit and stay while he scattered a few pieces of kibble on the ground and then got him to sniff them out. It’s so cute to watch and I’m all misty eyed over them growing up together. Mind you, Pablo looks huge compared to my son already! He can jump up at him and place his paws on DS’ chest and lick his face!

ETA:

@CoubousAndTourmalet I had a sneaky look at the hair thread and wow!! Mine is pretty long too but you’ve got a good few inches on mine! Gorgeous!

YorkshireFelix · 13/07/2025 17:08

Sorry I am just catching up. I am laughing so much at ‘my grandad was a grape’ @Bupsterand @SpanielsGaloremuzzled dog bashing a picnic of sandwiches 😂😂😂

Welcome @BaileyKat@Hemskis- this is the best thread on here IMO!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 13/07/2025 17:18

Your two boys are going to be such good pals in the coming years. @VanGoSunflowers It's wonderful that they have a bond already.

We're getting a few spots of rain here just now, so change is definitely coming.

The witchy hair looks out of place amongst the styled salon shots there I must admit, but still, I'm more metalhead than model girl, always was.

LandSharksAnonymous · 13/07/2025 17:26

@Hemskis that explains it! Anytime between 6-8 is a bad time for training IMO - it's prime witching hour, where all good puppies turn into twits. I'm so glad she's doing well with her ignoring people!

Tbh I'm mostly impressed that the holes weren't so big that you were unable to mend them! I don't think any of mine at that age ever left a toy in a reparable state...

CoubousAndTourmalet · 13/07/2025 17:26

Sorry, should have said @Hemskis , welcome and you have a very beautiful pup!

Also should say welcome to @BaileyKat

And to @SpanielsGalore , your girl looks so very happy on that photo!

And @Nella68 Thank you re my stupidly long hair 😊

And thanks everyone else - you are all such a lovely bunch on this thread xxx

SpanielsGalore · 13/07/2025 17:32

@CoubousAndTourmalet "More metalhead than model girl."
That's not true. We've all seen your photo from when you modeled for Harmony. 🥰

He is as soft as a cat, his fur is like velvet. It’s extraordinary, especially given what a hooligan he is. Very lovely to wake up with though.

We've had a lovely cool afternoon swimming with dogs. Feel like we've properly worn them out now after a few days of shorter and or slower walks.

40 dogs and their humans which sounds like it would be pandemonium but it wasn't at all.

@Bupster does Bill shed? He doesn't look like he sheds given his fur is short...but then looks at labs, and they're nightmares for shedding!

@CoubousAndTourmalet Yes! Velvet is the right description for it (and exactly as Bupster described it). Just looks so soft and smooth. Unlike mine, who are are bit ratty and messy

Made me laugh because I said velvety before @Bupster did and I haven't even met him!

Brie has lost so much undercoat that she's almost bald in a couple of places! She's an exceptionally heavy moulter like Rosie was. It'll grow back beautifully in the autumn, but right now there's almost no undercoat left. I'm sure she'll feel better for being rid of it though. She's looking beautifully slender at present, no longer Hyacinth the Hippo 😉

Nella68 · 13/07/2025 19:23

Midge has just been trimmed at the groomers- a short cut for summer. They’ve also given his ball curtain a severe cut. He got a shock when he sat on the pavement before crossing the road. He jumped about a foot into the air poor boy. Naked balls + hot pavement = not a good combination!

SpanielsGalore · 13/07/2025 19:34

@tizwozliz Beautiful - dogs and location. 💖

We have had two days of sunshine and I have bloody loved it. Currently still 26° here. Might take the dogs down to the beach for a quick paddle.

Do you think black dogs feel the heat more than white ones? K is panting as soon as she goes outside, whereas the white ones aren't.
