Today he's helping to unload the shopping... sorry for radio silence, I'm knackered!

That is frustrating @IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde
I hope it won't cause a setback for your boy.

I meant to ask whether you're making any progress with regard to his food...

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 19:52

Hello @Bupster & Bill. It's lovely to see you 😊What an excellent boy he is being ❤

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/08/2025 19:53

@Nella68 I think that's what everyone thinks 'Oh aren't puppies lovely, but I'll just pat yours...I don't want one for myself.'😃38 degrees sounds almost too hot...I hope there's a pool, or a beach!?

@IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde Oh I'm sorry about that! People are awful. How's your boy doing now? I hope you told the person they were a nob!

@Bupster oh look at that silky ear.😍I'm incredibly impressed you managed to get him to even touch broccoli, let alone put it in his mouth. You've done a better job training Bill than I have my DDs! Sorry that you're knackered though - hopefully Bill is not the cause of it (and if he is, he's being extra cuddly to apologise...)

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 19:54

Hope you're having a lovely time and that it's cooled off a bit for you now @Nella68 We must stop complaining about 25 degrees!

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 12/08/2025 10:39

Yes hope you are having a good holiday @Nella68

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet - firstly I have thought of a way around the name change- spell Tourmalet with a capital i (I) then it will be a brand new user name.
Secondly - miles better thanks, have moved to the Jollyes lifestage lamb, the difference has been quick and noticeable.

Dog is being neutered today, feel really torn about it, but ultimately my trainer (who I do trust) recommends it, and although will board intact males there are less spaces. If there is an emergency the trainer will take a neutered male but intact can only be booked in advance.

We have an increasing amount of bitches on heat being walked locally (I think the change from early neutering to after one or two seasons) has really caught on, I can certainly see the reasons but new dog owners just aren't aware of the signs of season. It is also part of his rehoming contract, but I still feel that I am taking a risk- (apart from the mouthing) he is such a great dog, just hope he comes through ok.

SpanielsGalore · 12/08/2025 11:30

@IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde Hope everything goes well at the vets today and he's soon back home enjoying lots of cuddles. My males all bounced out of the vets like nothing had happened.
P is in season at the minute. I have been walking her late at night or in a freedom field. It amazes me that people carry on walking them as normal. I've met two people who have let their dogs play with mine before asking if they were entire males as theirs was in season.

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 12/08/2025 11:34

Thank you so much @IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde , that's a very ingenious way around the name issue! Perfect! I'll change it over when we start the new thread.

Ah I'm so pleased that the lamb has helped his digestion to settle, that's great news. As I said on your thread, we've always sworn by lamb based foods for our lot. Brie also has the Jollyes lamb, for lunch and dinner at the moment but MW lamb for breakfast & supper.

I hope everything goes smoothly and the neutering has the desired effect. We're still pondering whether to spay after Brie's next season in September. I can sort of see both sides of the debate; we will genuinely try not to walk her in areas with a lot of dog traffic, but sometimes it's unavoidable. We literally cannot get out of our close without passing the corner house which has a young male GSD (I hope it's not you, that would be awkward...😳) We'll chuck her in the car as much as we can and go up the moor when she's in full season.

I'm not sure how old your boy is, but Brie is also still quite mouthy at 16 months. Our others really weren't mouthy beyond 7 or 8 months, but she does seem quite immature by comparison. Hopefully the issue will eventually tail off for both of them.

SpanielsGalore · 12/08/2025 16:37

Ever since moving to Scotland, I have toyed with the idea of getting a Toller. I think I live in the ideal location for one. Whilst walking K earlier, I was pondering this. She obviously took offence and decided to show me I didn't need one by running up and presenting me with a duck. 🙈
Fortunately she'd been very gentle with it. So I managed to prise her mouth off it and it waddled away.

tizwozliz · 12/08/2025 17:12

Google Toller scream before deciding you want one @SpanielsGalore

😂😂 I have YouTubed it before. It's a little shrill, but I'm sure the neighbours won't mind. 🙈

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 13/08/2025 13:24

@IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde

I hope that your boy is doing okay after his neutering op and that it hasn't upscuttled him too much.

You might need to buy them some earplugs - that is not a pleasant sound 😬 Very pretty dog breed though.

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 13/08/2025 17:44

Thank you for the thoughts. He is ok, very sore, more the skin than the suture site.

But in himself he has seemed normal, just pray it was the right decision.

Reading on another thread about the stress of finding a puppy- I swear dog ownership is more stress than pleasure, I do worry about so much, and I'm not really a worrier .

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 13/08/2025 18:01

I'm glad that he appears to be doing okay, aside from being tender.

I worry about all of it too. Sometimes I think I worry more for being here and reading of people's difficulties with their pups. 25 years ago I had 3 dogs together, and I don't remember feeling so anxious about it. Age and experience counts for nothing, seemingly...

VanGoSunflowers · 13/08/2025 20:32

@IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde Im glad he’s doing ok! I’m like you and @MonCoubousMonTourmalet and I’ve only being a dog owner for just over 2 months! So much to think about and so much to worry about. I’m always questioning if I’m doing it right!

I was worrying a little about posting on this one because it’s nearly full 😝

abracadabra1980 · 13/08/2025 21:43

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet sorry I haven't had time to catch up with your replies/the thread as I am moving house tomorrow 🙈 Newfie is snorning outside on the cold patio. Labrador has been removed to DD's for the night/day tomorrow as I can't have eyes in the back, sides, and front of my head! Photo of Brie is fantastic - I'm only 5'1 (my Newf is VERY small @ 42kg). I started 1:1 behaviour training with Lab yesterday. Will update how it goes once we are settled - my head is also 'busy' planning some sort of pool we can all swim in, in the new garden... 😀

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 13/08/2025 21:52

Oh goodness, how exciting! I hope all goes well with the move @abracadabra1980 Not sure where you are but tomorrow is forecast to be a bit cooler here at least - hope it will be okay for your journey to your new home.

Pool plan sounds interesting - both dogs would be in heaven if they were allowed in a garden pool, I'm sure!

Will look forward to hearing about pups 1-1 training once you're nicely settled in your new place.

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 13/08/2025 21:55

Can anyone think up a witty title for a new late summer thread please?
In agreement with @VanGoSunflowers - terrified of being the threadkiller 😨

VanGoSunflowers · 13/08/2025 21:58

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet I have a suggestion but you’d have to be a fan of My Chemical Romance 😊

Sorry but not got a clue....🤔

Feel free to start a new thread and tag everyone though 😁

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 13/08/2025 22:16

It is meant to be scorching where I am tomorrow, so hope the house move is not down south!

Dog is definitely feeling better, has been acting like a loony- first time I have told him I'm sending him back! So clear that he needs his proper walks.

I don't see any shame in being a thread killer, in fact I see it as a badge of honour 😂

They’ve a song called Teenagers and the chorus goes “all together now… teenagers scare the living shit out of me…”
But no I can’t start an adolescent thread, I’m too puppy owner-y 😂 and I can’t post anymore now because I don’t want to be the last one 😂

SpanielsGalore · 13/08/2025 23:53

Hope you're all enjoying your warm weather. We've had a thunderstorm today and a lightning strike caused a three hour power cut.

Does @Bupster always start the adolescent thread?

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 14/08/2025 11:33

I've done it.
New thread is up.
