@LandSharksAnonymous ahhhh afternoon wine is even better! I have a bottle of my favourite chilling in the fridge and you’ve made me want to crack it open 😂
Enjoy your relaxing afternoon, drinking in the calmness!

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 10/08/2025 14:24

Just seen your photo of the rather wonderfully named Eris on the puppy thread @LandSharksAnonymous , she's a gorgeous girl! Beautiful face.
(Said, of course, with absolutely no large breed bias whatsoever 😁)
I hope you're still luxuriating in some well deserved peace and quiet.

Too warm, too bright here today, very jealous of @SpanielsGalore living, as she does, in paradise.

I too am hoping Pupsy is doing well after her surgery @brushingboots

@VanGoSunflowers You can still get away with attitude at 41, you aren't officially old yet. At 61 I am, sadly, very much "a mad old bat" that wears funny shoes and smells of cat. Literally and figuratively 🙄

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/08/2025 07:26

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet she is stunning! Honestly, I look at photos of her now and then of Twatdog at her age and they are identical - although given her father is Twatdogs half brother, and they share a mother I can’t really be surprised! Him in the flowerbed (below) v. Her in the kitchen! He’s a few weeks older on that photo, but I think his nose will stay longer than hers and her colouring overall will be darker but either way, a very pretty pair. Let’s just hope she has more brains than him, although I can’t imagine that will be hard…

19 already here! Hope everyone’s dogs are okay in the heat @Bupster shamelessly tagging you for my weekly photo of Bills silky ear (that sounded creepy)! And obviously goes without saying I hope you and Bill are surviving the heat!

Stunning puppies, @LandSharksAnonymous , both just irresistible. And I know that therein lies the problem when you start getting Eris out for walks and everybody wants to cuddle her 🙄

SpanielsGalore · 11/08/2025 08:49

Eris is very cute, but my heart belongs to Twatdog. ❤️
Do people breed GR x cockers? Just curious as it's not a mix I have come across. Nothing to do with P being in season and Twatdog being handsome. 👀😂

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 11/08/2025 09:15

How do you choose which pup to keep @LandSharksAnonymous

You're entering into the realms of the legendary Pyrecock now @SpanielsGalore . That was a thing we dreamt up on puppy thread last year and was a fictional prospective mating between Brie & either Brodie or Milo to create a dog that not only retrieved birds but also guarded them😆

I'm actually pretty sure there will be GR x CS puppies out there somewhere in backyard breeding world though... there seems to be every other potential cross in existence.

brushingboots · 11/08/2025 09:45

@SpanielsGalore I know two GR x cockers – one looks more cocker ish, even cockerpoo ish, somehow, and is frankly extremely unruly and I wouldn’t recommend at all, and the other one I initially mistook for a Toller and is gorgeous and very nicely trained. I don’t know why you’d want that mix though. Feels like the worst of both worlds – a bigger, hairier dog with a cocker brain. Nooooope.

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet Ahh the good old days of the Pyrecock!

Pupsy survived the weekend on lead walks only but we’re both a bit tired of it, though the weather helped curb our enthusiasm for much by being suitably warm. We’re back at the vets this morning – hopefully she will have her bandage off and be allowed freedom.

SpanielsGalore · 11/08/2025 09:46

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet 😂😂It's a good job the Pyre was the mother in that cross. 😳
GR x CS isn't something I have come across. It's always poodles or labs. Wonder if it's called a Goldcock. 🤔

SpanielsGalore · 11/08/2025 09:51

@brushingboots That's interesting. I wonder if they were planned matings. I met a cockerpoo a few weeks ago that I would have said was a GR cross.
I'd love a Toller. I think I live in an ideal location for one. I thought they were too big for me, but someone posted yesterday saying theirs is only 14kg. That didn't send me down a rabbit hole of searching for Toller puppies at all. 🙈
Hope the vet visit goes well and Pupsy can enjoy a good run this afternoon.

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 09:53

Goldcock, the follow-up to Goldfinger....or perhaps not 😬

That's a spit your tea out comment if ever I've read one.

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/08/2025 10:10

@SpanielsGalore I've always loved the idea of them being called 'Cock-Retrievers' but that's my inner child coming out 😁I've seen a few of them but tbh most of them just look a bit like large Cocker Spaniels! Tbh, I do think P would probably have to draw Twatdog a diagram to show him what he's meant to do. He's really quite dim.

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet Thankfully I am a lot firmer than most people. Plus, I imagine walking 4 adult Goldies will be enough to keep most people away from her...

@IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde I tend to keep the girl that gets on best with my existing adult dogs. Having a multi-girl household, even when they're all mother/daughter combinations, can be really tricky. So I weed out (for lack of a better term) the ones the other dogs are less interested in or the ones that are really boisterous, and then from there tend to shortlist based off their personality. By about 7(ish) weeks you can tell personalities really easily when you spend so much time with them. This time it was quite easy as my eldest dog, Hen, really took to Eris and even snuggled down with her, so the choice was made for me.

Don't like my new name. I keep seeing it as McCoubousMcTourmalet and it's annoying me. Bugger! Why did I delete myself again?
Might have a new name again for the new thread. Only one more page to go.

I keep tagging the old you instead of the new you. 🤦‍♀️
I assumed you just name changed. Have you made a new account? I don't know how MN works.

@LandSharksAnonymous Perhaps N could show Twatdog what to do. She keeps trying to mount P, which has come as a shock because I didn't know she could stand on just her hind legs.

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 10:51

Stupidly I panicked and ran away forever.... (social anxiety is such a curse), but, typically, only managed three days 😂 So new account @SpanielsGalore

Sadly regeneration here doesn't work like Dr Who, who gets a whole new body (oh if only), but keeps the same name (well kind of). Here it's same ugly old visage but can't keep the old name.
Annoying because I did like CoubousAndTourmalet/TourmaletAndCoubous.

If it's any consolation @LandSharksAnonymous , none of our boys would have known what to do either. Our girls have all been far more highly sexed, worldly wise and full of attitude. The boys remained innocent babes.

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 11/08/2025 11:50

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet report your post and ask for your names back, MN will help if possible.
I just name change when I want to disappear - I know I can never escape MN 😆

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 11:52

Hoping Pupsy has been given the all clear @brushingboots , although the weather is not conducive to having a decent walk today.

Brie had a good walk at 6am so the pressure is off. We may manage another short outing at 8 or 9 tonight. Only 22 here so we're not too bad.

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 11:55

I asked them @IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde , they said they can't. I'll just have to think up a new name or stick with this one... And I need to stop panicking all the time!

brushingboots · 11/08/2025 11:59

We are not yet in the clear – the nurse said she wanted her to stay on a lead for another week, at which point, I’m slightly embarrassed to say, I snorted and said, ‘well I can’t possibly do that’. We compromised on ‘until the end of the week’ but judicious use of the longline will make life easier. Pupsy still won’t be very happy and she will definitely not be fulfilled but luckily it’s warm so she won’t fancy quite as much exercise.

The nurse said that the main issue is the hedge diving and her getting her stitches caught on something – it’s not the running but the environment, and I get that. But it is laughable to expect an otherwise healthy and very fit young spaniel, who isn’t limping, or in any visible pain, or showing any signs of being anything other than slightly hot because it’s warm outside, to walk on a short lead twice a day for almost a fortnight. Round here lead walks predominantly mean pavements because in my book it’s not fair to take her to her normal walking places and be kept on a lead. But the long line will help at least.

On the upside, I was early for the vets so parked up and went for a wander with her and found literally hours worth of brand new walks that I’d never seen before. Some lovely fresh stubble and well-walked footpaths so clearly it’s not new, just new to me. So when she is properly free we will be going back there to let her run properly.

SpanielsGalore · 11/08/2025 12:08

@brushingboots Oh that's a pain. Is there anywhere flat you can go if it's the stitches that are the problem? Round here there are a few play areas and golf courses with short grass or the beach. Or cover the stitches with vet wrap for protection whilst out?

LandSharksAnonymous · 11/08/2025 14:17

@SpanielsGalore I think if N tried to show Twatdog what to do he might have heart failure. He saw what used to be his 'girlfriend' at lunch (aka a local Golden girlie who he used to play with) and when she got a bit fruity (kept sticking her bum in his face) he just ran and hid behind me! Perhaps @MonCoubousMonTourmalet boy dogs are just entirely useless...other than when it's a pillow or a toy? 😄

@brushingboots sorry to hear that, poor Pupsy (and poor you)! As you say though, at least it's a bit warmer and therefore she's a bit less manic. Can she swim with the stitches in? Just wondering if there's a pool near you that might be dog friendly?

MonCoubousMonTourmalet · 11/08/2025 14:25

Our boys didn't even hump pillows or toys @LandSharksAnonymous , they were oddly asexual, despite having all bits intact 😳 The girls, on the other hand, would hump everything, from cushions, to us, to each other.

Nella68 · 11/08/2025 16:16

Catching up as we’ve been travelling. 38 degrees in the shade here in France. We’re on a very dog friendly campsite (we’re surrounded by them) but I’m glad we have left M in England. We’re struggling so it must be extra hard for dogs.

@LandSharksAnonymous the puppy photos have made me go all gooey but I don’t envy you the puppy stage!

@MonCoubousMonTourmalet - this name is fine- I just need to remember that you have changed it!

@brushingboots That’s frustrating for pupsy and you but 2 weeks will fly by.

Every one else: Hi!

P.s Where’s the lovely Bill!

IchLiebeDeutscheSchaferhunde · 11/08/2025 19:45

I had a quite frustrating day, someone just completely ignoring everything we have set up to ease introductions and expecting new dog to be all friendly with a stranger because 'they are family'.
New dog doesn't know that, and the person is fully aware, just frustrating when people expect dogs to behave like humans and not animals.
