This little beagle baby will be joining our family in a little over a month…what should we call her??

I don’t necessarily love “people” names for dogs although the one we have is named Winston 🤣 I do love Willow and Winnie, but Winnie is too close to Winston and Willow is too close to our son’s name.

I like the idea of a spring/flower name because she was born in April. I keep thinking Daisy but that’s surely the most common dog/flower name ever!

I’ve always really liked the name Lemon for a dog after a (human) character on a tv show, but there is a certain color variant in beagles referred to as lemon beagles, and she isn’t one. So that seems strange.

Anyway, give me your best spring or flower or non- peopley names! (By non-people I mean things like the aforementioned Lemon, or Cricket or something. I do love Cricket; since I’m American it is just a bug to me and not a game 🙂)

She's a Blodwyn if I've ever seen one. Bloddie the Beagle.

Honey 🍯 💛

So cute, her markings are beautiful. Her face reminds me of a pansy, or viola. Viola could always be shortened to Vi.

Icewithmyslice · 05/06/2025 22:20

Any updates on her name @CheerfulYankSmile

Glad to see that you already know what you are letting yourself in for! 😂(although you should know better!).

Shes gorgeous (so is Winston).

No, not yet! I think I won’t be able to decide until I get her. The kids were watching Bluey the other day and said randomly “if we ever get Winston a little sister, we should name her Muffin” 🤣 If you know Muffin from Bluey, I’m not sure that’s the namesake we should be looking for…

I really SHOULD know better 😬 Also we got Winston when he was 9 months old; it’s been years since I’ve had a TINY puppy. I remember those days though…and they were not pretty 🤣

I love all those names! Wren might be too close to Win, which Winston gets a lot, but the others are on the list.

I LOVE Viola. However, when it comes to “older” person names, I’m sort of in the position you see often when pregnant teachers can’t decide on a baby name because they have associations with all of them…I work in a care home! And we currently have a Viola I love very much but who is a bit of a menace. Come to think of it, that might be a fit after all 😆

Out for care home related reasons: Millie (unfortunately, I think it’s so cute), Florence, and Joyce. 🤣 And definitely Larry/Lawrence but as she is a girl puppy that isn’t an issue anyway.

I love Junie B!
Short for Junie Beagle :-)

Or maybe Juno.

But you know how animal names metamorphose over time, especially when they aren't as free flowing to bellow at a load of bushes - it would probably go from Junie B to June to June Bug...and then to Bug.

If you like Lemon, we had a dog called Limone (Italian for lemon) when I was a teenager. She was a stray that we met on holiday in Italy, we fed her a bit of ham and she followed us everywhere for the rest of the trip. We ended up going through the extremely complicated process of bringing her home and she was the best dog ever. We called her Limone after consuming rather a lot of Limoncello and I always thought it sounded quite glamorous (she was NOT a glamorous dog 😆).

Your pup is absolutely gorgeous 😍

Limone is cute! Someone else suggested it and it’s on the list. ❤️ I love that you brought her home with you!

Updated picture today! She weighs 4 pounds and is apparently the “most spunky” of all the girls. 🤣 I’m in for it with this one, I can tell.

For a feisty little beagle, a name ending in a long vowel might be very useful. You need the name to end with a sound you can keep on yelling really loudly, a sound that will carry over long distances.

Winnie
catkin
blossom

Stickytreacle · 14/06/2025 17:17

Teasel or Thistle, both feisty flowers!

Update: she’s here!

And after all my talk of wanting a flower name or a non-person name or an uncommon dog name, I took one look at her and said “hi, Lucy!”

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ and there it is. Lucy she is and ever more shall be, when she isn’t Lulu or Goose or Woosee or…you get the picture 🤣 She’s so cute, I haven’t yet taken a picture that does her justice! Her big beagle brother is terrified of her, but starting to thaw out a bit, and my two youngest kids are visiting their grandparents so don’t know she’s here yet. She’ll be quite the surprise when they come home!

She’s a bit of a nightmare 🤣 as all puppies are, but she’s so so precious.
