Help me name this little lady?

This little beagle baby will be joining our family in a little over a month…what should we call her??

I don’t necessarily love “people” names for dogs although the one we have is named Winston 🤣 I do love Willow and Winnie, but Winnie is too close to Winston and Willow is too close to our son’s name.

I like the idea of a spring/flower name because she was born in April. I keep thinking Daisy but that’s surely the most common dog/flower name ever!

I’ve always really liked the name Lemon for a dog after a (human) character on a tv show, but there is a certain color variant in beagles referred to as lemon beagles, and she isn’t one. So that seems strange.

Anyway, give me your best spring or flower or non- peopley names! (By non-people I mean things like the aforementioned Lemon, or Cricket or something. I do love Cricket; since I’m American it is just a bug to me and not a game 🙂)

Normally names spring out at me, but not with this puppy.

I don't think she suits cute names. Something about her expression. ( good luck with the training!)

All I can think of

Caro
Jane
Pippa

Yes, she looks feisty, doesn’t she? 🤣 Caro and Jane are out (family members, friends, etc) but I do like Pippa.

My latest thought is Juniper Beatrice, called Junie or Junie B, because Juniper Beatrice is the full name of this girl, who is quite feisty herself. (Do children read Junie B. Jones in the UK??)

I do love Petal BUT in my accent (and everyone around me as well) it is indistinguishable from “pedal/peddle” which isn’t nearly so nice. 😔

I don’t think so, I’m a nanny and prior to that an early years teacher, I’ve never heard of that book series.

Reallyyyyyy · 30/05/2025 21:52

Candleabra · 30/05/2025 22:02

Audrey, too.

(It's Penelope Keith, by the way - who, as Audrey Forbes-Hamilton in To the Manor Born, had a Beagle named Bertie).

Reallyyyyyy · 30/05/2025 22:19

Lady penelope! @CheerfulYank

I still haven’t decided! I might not until I actually meet her. This is the updated picture just sent today; apparently she is quite a “spunky little lady” according to the people who have her now. She looks it, I think! 🤣 So any feisty names would be good!

How about cleo..short for cleopatra who was notoriously Fiesty

BeaLola · 31/05/2025 18:50

Scout

bridgetreilly · 31/05/2025 19:03

April is also a lovely name if that’s when her birthday is!

monktasmic · 31/05/2025 20:57

Winston and Bean go well together

Itsabeautifulthing · 31/05/2025 21:01

Winifred - Winnie for short

CheerfulYank · 02/06/2025 22:21

Latest pics sent today! I can’t wait to get her ❤️ Still not sure on a name, nothing seems “right” but maybe it will when we meet her.

…have I mentioned that I’m also keeping her a surprise from everyone in the family? 😬🤣 So I haven’t asked them for input yet.

Winifred - Winnie for short

I love Winnie so much! But the dog we have now is Winston and he gets Win or Wint a lot so it would be too confusing.

We have a 9 month old beagle puppy, and my kids called her Mabel. I wanted to name her “Nancy Drool” but that was nixed because beagles don’t drool that much. They also vetoed my suggestion of Sneaker. My husband wanted to call her Wicket but he’s into Star Wars. I think looking back if I could name her now it would be “Digger” after the havoc she’s caused in my garden!

paranoiaofpufflings · 03/06/2025 02:19

She’s so cute!
Caramel? Carrie for short.
Or Toffee?

mathanxiety · 03/06/2025 02:59

I love Junie B!
Short for Junie Beagle :-)

Or maybe Juno.
