This little beagle baby will be joining our family in a little over a month…what should we call her??

I don’t necessarily love “people” names for dogs although the one we have is named Winston 🤣 I do love Willow and Winnie, but Winnie is too close to Winston and Willow is too close to our son’s name.

I like the idea of a spring/flower name because she was born in April. I keep thinking Daisy but that’s surely the most common dog/flower name ever!

I’ve always really liked the name Lemon for a dog after a (human) character on a tv show, but there is a certain color variant in beagles referred to as lemon beagles, and she isn’t one. So that seems strange.

Anyway, give me your best spring or flower or non- peopley names! (By non-people I mean things like the aforementioned Lemon, or Cricket or something. I do love Cricket; since I’m American it is just a bug to me and not a game 🙂)

They sent an updated picture today! Isn’t she sweet??

I feel like she kind of looks like a Rosie, but I’m not sure!

Have you decided on a name for her yet OP? Rosie is a lovely name. She is so cute! 🥰

I still haven’t decided! I might not until I actually meet her. This is the updated picture just sent today; apparently she is quite a “spunky little lady” according to the people who have her now. She looks it, I think! 🤣 So any feisty names would be good!

CheerfulYank · 30/05/2025 10:06

I love so many of these! 😩

I know I said I wanted a non-human name, but her markings somehow remind me of this childhood book character obsession of mine…so maybe she’s a Frances/Frannie??

Have you got teenagers (or a bloke)? That will very easily turn into 'Frannie, you absolute fanny'. Or, as you are entering the Beagle cult, I might as well tell you now that you'll be yelling it into the depths of bushes where she's disappeared after a very enticing scent stench ; after a while, it'll be very easy for people to hear it as you shouting Fanny! Fanny! Fanny!

Marjorie/Marge might work, though - Marjorie! when she's eaten something and turns on the eyes or is wowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowing and 'Come on, Marge, Margie! Margie!' in often unsuccessful recall attempts shouting into the void.

ETA: you do have a Maggie, Marge fits - especially her grumbling noise...

Normally names spring out at me, but not with this puppy.

I don't think she suits cute names. Something about her expression. ( good luck with the training!)

All I can think of

Caro
Jane
Pippa

Edited

Yes, I have both a teenager and a man (as well as a 12 year old who might as well be 17, if you ask her, and a 10 year old for good measure) but Fanny doesn’t mean the same thing here in the US 🤣 It’s very occasionally slang for bum but used mostly by older women, if anyone.

I do like Marge and Marjorie but my Maggie is actually Margaret and it just seems too much.

Never fear, I’m a card carrying member of the beagle cult already! This is our boy Winston (who came with the name Pocket, which had to go!)
