Exh walking shih tzu was 20 yards from my house. Woman walking a Rottweiler let go of his lead as couldn't restrain him and it ran across the road and savaged ddog. Exh was bitten and left lying injured in road as woman took dog to hide. Neighbours brought Exh and ddog to me ddog bleeding heavily, went to vets who transferred him to specialist vets, This morning whilst under anaesthetic we had to let him go as injuries too severe. We are all heartbroken, he was 11 and the best bad boy. Police called, she got the dog away but by the power of Facebook dog has been seized and they will be pursuing prosecution which is no consolation if I'm honest.

@Ang3leyes easy enough the neighbours took a photo and tracked her down and brought name and address across as well as reporting to 101. I can see where she lives from dd's bedroom window. Her FB page has photos of the dog no mistake made.

I'm so so sorry. I think if a person has been bitten the police have to take action - contact your local Dog Warden too, through your Council, get some advice from them. It's possible the dog (owner) has history.
My sisters dog has been attached a couple of times by a dog local to her. I sent her one of those Jif lemon squeezy things, told her to aim for the attacking dogs mouth but if it goes in the dogs eyes, well .....
I have just taken on a rescue dog who is really anxious, first few walks I had a lead attached to my jeans in addition to the lead on his harness, in case he took fright and tried to run. This woman had a dog out in public that she couldn't control -

Bumcake · 15/02/2025 22:14

How dreadful, I’m sorry to hear it.

laalaaleelee · 15/02/2025 22:16

Hotflushesandchilblains · 15/02/2025 22:26

I am so sorry for your loss.

Pigwodgeon · 15/02/2025 22:28

I'm so sorry! The same thing happened to my dcat. She was only 5. Bitten to death by a rottweiler. These dogs are dangerous in the wrong hands.

NiftyKoala · 15/02/2025 22:37

I'm so sorry OP. I hope she is fully prosecuted by the law and isn't allowed to have a dog again. Your poor dog and Exh. He's lucky he wasn't killed as well.

Ebeneser · 15/02/2025 22:42

So sorry to hear this. Similar happened to my godmothers king charles. Neighbours dog (new rescue) escaped when they opened the front door as my godmother was passing and killed her dog. Neighbour took responsibility, but no prosecution occured, and they still have the dog. Since yours has done a runner I hope they prosecute!

BMW6 · 15/02/2025 22:43

I'm so, so sorry, devastating and horrific.

I get infuriated when I see people walking dogs that they have no chance of physically restraining should the need arise. Beyond STUPID.

And what a snivelling coward to have run away when your dog and ex were so injured. What a waste of space. I hope she gets severe punishment and her dog needs to be PTS as its dangerous.

Ihavethebestdogs · 15/02/2025 22:48

I'm so sorry. Best Bad Boy looks like a total sweetheart. I can't imagine how much pain you're in 😞💔It's the stuff of nightmares. I hope little Bella will be okay, having lost her friend 😢Your Best Bad Boy looks to have been very well cared for. Console yourselves with the fact he had 11 wonderful years where he knew nothing but love and tenderness.
I will never understand people who get dogs they can't control...

WhenICalledYouLastNightFromTesco · 15/02/2025 22:49

I'm so sorry @hiredandsqueak. What a horrific thing to have to deal with. Your picture of him brought tears to my eyes, and he looks to have been well loved and had a great life - words that I'm sure don't bring you any comfort at all.

I hope he rests in peace, along with the dog who killed him. The owner though, I hope she serves a lengthy custodial sentence.

invisiblebark · 15/02/2025 22:51

So sorry about your precious baby. He was a beautiful boy! Absolutely adorable. 😭💔❤️❤️

I hope the woman is severely prosecuted.

So sorry for your loss and ExH. Hope he isnt too badly hurt either. xx

mommatoone · 15/02/2025 22:58

Here's our best bad boy, the sweetest boy and such a character. I'm going ro miss him I looked after him exh looked after mine Bella has lost her friend too

Oh my God.
This is my absolute dread.

How horrendous for you and your dear, sweet innocent dog.

There was an XL Bully hippo/pig that the owner had off leash that tried to go for my gentle dog and a friend's - I had to release their leads to give them a chance to get away...Friend's dog ran in panic into a nearby housing estate but was caught by a kindly road sweeper.

Too too often idiots who want these 'thug dogs' cannot restrain them and let go of the leash.

Please report to police and the dog warden.

My friend's toddler and baby were attacked by a Bull breed who flew at them - the owner was already banned from keeping dogs at the time.

Dogs like this need muzzling in public, as the owners just aren't strong enough.

These ''thug dogs'' are so often utter cowardly bullies as well- going for kind, gentle well mannered dogs, or older dogs, or cats or children who are no threat to them at all.

The weak owners aren't strong enough - and it's always the weak who want these ''thug'' dogs.

It needs Euthanasia. It is a killer of innocent dogs and probably has done this before, or killed cats.

It is dangerously out of control in a public place.

Oh @hiredandsqueak I am so sorry and can only add my voice to the sympathy over your poor beautiful bad boy, who looks so adorable in his school photo.

I don't know what the right outcome is, to be honest. Pursue the owners to the end of the earth, but remember that their dog is the product of its upbringing. Don't blame it, even though it must be really hard not to. It is the owners that are at fault here.

Perhaps rehomed the dog could be trained to be safe? I don't know if that is possible or is even the best course of action. I'm just not sure that putting down another dog will help you to feel better.

God this is shit. I really am so very sorry and will be thinking about you, what your exh went through (which must have been awful) and most of all your little furball.

AcquadiP · 15/02/2025 23:18

Ang3leyes · 15/02/2025 21:45

how did you work out whos dog it was through facebook

One in three households owns a dog and it's surprising who knows who in the dog-owning community. Other dog owners may not know the owner personally, but if they live on the same street, they will be able to point out the owner's house.

Rottweilers aren't a rare breed but they don't exist in the same numbers as say Labradors or Staffies do, this narrows down the search.

Clearly, the Rottweiler in question is highly dangerous to other dogs and this aggression will have taken time to develop to the level of today's horrific attack. This dog will have previous form for trying to attack other dogs and for that reason will be well known amongst the dog owners who live on the same street and in the immediate area.

Then you add a description of the woman walking the dog and where she was walking the dog.
