Our dog was killed

Exh walking shih tzu was 20 yards from my house. Woman walking a Rottweiler let go of his lead as couldn't restrain him and it ran across the road and savaged ddog. Exh was bitten and left lying injured in road as woman took dog to hide. Neighbours brought Exh and ddog to me ddog bleeding heavily, went to vets who transferred him to specialist vets, This morning whilst under anaesthetic we had to let him go as injuries too severe. We are all heartbroken, he was 11 and the best bad boy. Police called, she got the dog away but by the power of Facebook dog has been seized and they will be pursuing prosecution which is no consolation if I'm honest.

I’m so sorry - what a hideous situation for your precious dog and you.

As a dog lover and owner, I don’t think any dog should be off lead.

We walk on lead 6 days a week and hire an enclosed paddock every Sunday.

This is dreadful. How can people let things like this happen and then walk away from them? I hope you are able to pursue an action against this negligent dog-keeper, for yourself and your exH, and most of all, your sweet little chap. None of you deserved what happened, but she deserves to have the book thrown at her.

Im so sorry, what a horrific thing to happen.

Please don't let the police drop this, sometimes they will because they try to put it down as a dog on dog attack rather than a dog dangerously out of control in a public place (which it was, and is an offence) and a human being injured.

Have you not been on local groups on FB?

You can generally track down someone from the tiniest detail if the group is active enough! Simply asking 'who walks a rottie on x st at x time' will usually get you most of the way there!

@hiredandsqueak I'm so sorry to read this. I have a Shih Tzu cross and she is the darling of our family. Your boy was an absolute beauty. I know it won't help at this dreadful time but I'm sending love across the internet 💐

I’m so sorry this happened to your companion. Heartbreaking. Please take comfort you gave him a loving home where he was cared for-that’s all a dog can ask for. And he wasn’t in pain at the end x

Dog attacks are just getting out of hand . There’s so many in our area I’ve stopped taking my dog over the field by myself coz I’m so scared of him getting hurt .

I've got a K9 defence spray...not sure if they always work and I'm still very careful about where I go but it gives me a bit more confidence.

I'm so sorry OP ...you must be heartbroken. I lost my eleven year old Bichon a few weeks ago and it was devastating even with the kindest vet ever. I can't imagine going through what you're going through x

There was a dog-on-dog attack in my area a day or two ago - very unusual. Of course the bloody owner legged it.

i nearly lost a young dog to a pitbull mix attack. Utterly traumatizing.

I know nothing will bring him back, but glad you are pursuing legal options to take action against a dangerous dog and owner.
