During a walk with my lab. It's looks like a poodle cross and go actually be in good condition.

I've called the vets and taking then in later. My next door neighbour has a microchip scanned and it's not chipped. No collar. Doesn't look to be in poor condition though.

Apart from the vets, what do I do?

I've fallen in love already!

This happened in my area, a beautiful cocker spaniel pup was dumped in a bag in our local park. Unfortunately it later came out through the locks newspaper she was from a litter and the breeder had dumped her as she had a genetic condition, so she couldn’t be sold and was worthless to the breeder. She was PTS by a vet 😞 . I do hope this isn’t a similar situation and the pup
is healthy

@Frillytea I think you need to start your own thread....

NoEffingWay · 13/04/2023 20:53

I can't believe someone would do that, but on the plus side you found him so he is lucky puppy 😍

Please call it LUCKY

If you can afford to and want to keep the pup go for it. As long as your lab is happy to have a pup around.

If your Inlove then keep! Take to vets have checked over and take home and love that baby like it deserves !! I do believe everything happens for a reason. There is a reason you went on that walk and walked the way you did at the time you did and found that poor baby. This was meant to be. There are some awful people in this world

Years ago my Mum found a little pup in a telephone box outside St George’s hospital where she was a nurse.
We kept her, and she lived until she was 13. She was beautiful.
Don’t know how people can do things like this, but looks like this little one has fallen on her feet with you.

SummerDawn2000 · 13/04/2023 21:26

Lucky puppy to have found you.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 13/04/2023 21:49

I’m missing why so many posters are referring to the puppy as he/him. I can’t see an update from the op confirming the sex of the puppy, have I missed one?

Poor little pup. Sounds like the vets is the best bet?

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 13/04/2023 21:54

I actually think this is a fake post.

Are you worried about misgendering a dog? 🙄

Lots of scams going around fb with abandoned pups, I'm not a dog person so don't immediately go awwww eeeeee when I see "pup" or a picture of one. The post just jumps out as a scam, a pup could be sold on easily, an old dog abandoned unfortunately makes sense, a pup who they could make a few quid out of, nah don't buy this.

Ellmau · 13/04/2023 22:12

I hope he/she is healthy and has a happy life with you :)

Just because it's unlikely doesn't mean it's impossible. A cat was found dumped in the trash not too long ago, it made the news. Cameras showed that the cat was dumped into the trash can by a stranger and the family had been looking for it and missing it terribly.

It's not good advice to tell people just to keep an animal they've found. Kind of shocked that his comes from a professional! I've adopted two dogs from the shelter and they always looked for possible owners first and also pressed charges when animal cruelty was involved.

The difference here is that with a dog it is a legal requirement to microchip any dog over 8 weeks. The rescuer here has checked for chips as will any vet the dog sees. The fact this dog hasn't been chipped shows it likely wasn't a loved pet or from a reputable breeder.

It also means its likely unvaccinated as vets will push for chips and vaccines to be done simultaneously.

Also she has already been told here to check for posts about missing dogs matching the descriptions etc.

If the OP were to give this dog to a rescue group they would likely just check for a chip too (maybe circulate via media depending on their scope) , during this time the dog would either be housed in their facility or in an intermediary home and depending on the group the rescuer may or may not be allowed to adopt (likely having the pay adoption fees if they did) .

It's all just a bit pointless and a waste of resources when this dog is very clearly abandoned and has potentially already found itself a decent, responsible home

Somanysocks · 13/04/2023 23:14

There is no puppy, in a bag, a cardboard box or tied to a lamp post.
