Dogs in bedrooms

We've never had a dog sleep in our bedroom. But our dear Golden, who's 4, has just gotten over a tummy bug and is being very barky from his den in the utility room. We're close to cracking and having him up with us.
How many of you allow dogs in your bedrooms?

I personally wouldn’t as my dog would never want to return to his crate afterwards. He’d also insist on jumping up on the bed to sleep! Hopefully he settles soon, if not would you consider sleeping in the living room with your dog?

Paperexcelandpens · 04/04/2023 20:08

No definitely not.

Timeforachangeisitnot · 04/04/2023 20:09

Yes we do. 2 labs. Pretty much free run of the house except dining room ( total ban) and ‘posh’ living room - by invitation only.
I took lab 1 into the bedroom when he and I stayed at my mums when he was about 5 months - he never left🙄 If you can settle your pup without taking him to your room, that’s what I would do if I had my time again.

Fegetables · 04/04/2023 20:09

Mine sleeps on my bed every night, wouldn't have it any other way.

ClaraThePigeon · 04/04/2023 20:11

I can't imagine not having my dog in my bedroom. They're great company and I've owned a lot of dogs and all have slept in there and most on them on my bed. I put a throw down but that's it.

alabamathunderpussy · 04/04/2023 20:13

Yep.
Always said i wouldn't but now they are both in with us. Be prepared to find it hard to go back!

NoLongerATeacher · 04/04/2023 20:13

Wow you’ve lasted 4 years! Two Goldies here and both sleep in our bedroom - they both start off on the bed with us then after about 10 mins one lays by my side of the bed and other lies by DH. I do change our bedding about 3 times a week and hoover a lot 😂 Goldies love being with their people.

Timeforchangeithink · 04/04/2023 20:14

Yes but wish they didn't

neilyoungismyhero · 04/04/2023 20:16

I've always had a dog sleep next to my side of the bed.
Would feel weird not having that comfort.

C2190 · 04/04/2023 20:16

My shih tzu sleeps at the bottom of our bed every night on his own blanket. Sometimes, he'll jump down to the floor, but yes, he has the run of the house apart from my sons room.

CheeseMcKnees · 04/04/2023 20:17

I love a dog snug but it’s not to everyone’s taste

IngGenius · 04/04/2023 20:17

I will never ever ever have my dogs sleeping in my bedroom.

Love them to bits but they sleep in their beds and I sleep in mine Smile

When we travel they do on occasions sleep in hotel rooms with us but I dont have to hoover and clean the dog hairs off the sheets. They are totally happy to sleep in their comfy warm beds again when we get home.

I can think of some many reasons as to why they will never sleep in our room

MyOwnVolt · 04/04/2023 20:17

My little lurcher spends his night on either mine or one of the kids beds. I think we all get some attention during the night as he moves about a bit. I couldn’t imagine making him sleep downstairs now.

AmberTart · 04/04/2023 20:17

We used to have a door at the bottom of the stairs so the dog was always downstairs overnight but since we moved house she comes and sleeps on the end of the bed. We've never confined her to one room, in our old house she had the run of downstairs so feels cruel to start now when she's almost 7 so I guess we're stuck with her at the end of the bed!

PenOrPencil · 04/04/2023 20:20

Our dog sleeps in our bedroom (and bed). She was unsettled every night when she still slept on her own but since we caved she is happy and so are we.

SquashPenguin · 04/04/2023 20:22

I’d never have my dog in with me. As much as I love him I don’t want his fur in my bed, nor do I want the room smelling of his farts all night. He sleeps in a kids pop up tent in the dining room. I can say “time for Pingu to go to bed” and he plods off to his tent 😆

gogohmm · 04/04/2023 20:23

I'm no, door slept downstairs from 8 weeks old

maddy68 · 04/04/2023 20:24

Our two slew in our bed saves on the heating ;)

Twattergy · 04/04/2023 20:26

Oooh no. Hold out. The idea is lovely. Reality would be dog smells and hair everywhere. Plus I need space from the demands of children and pets in my bedroom. It needs to be a sanctuary.

Thelittlekingdom · 04/04/2023 20:27

Dog sleeps in our room on our bed. Is a source of rage for me. He did sleep downstairs but I ended up co sleeping for a while with one of our autistic children as they were having mental health issues. Husband then slept in her room and the dog on the bed with him. I’ve asked him frequently to make the dog sleep on his bed on the floor to no avail.

StarDolphins · 04/04/2023 20:28

my dog sleeps on my bed! I won’t have him forever & I want him to love his life so he sleeps where he wants!

WineThief · 04/04/2023 20:28

As much as I love our Goldie to pieces, he sleeps downstairs! He is far too fidgety and thinks breakfast time is 5:30am; if he slept in our room I'd get about 3 hours' sleep 😴

He does sleep with us when we go away, or if he's poorly and particularly unsettled, but straight back to the downstairs routine once back to normal.

(So I would suggest you let your poorly dog in until they're better, as they'll be fine reverting back to normal afterwards!)

WhenDovesFly · 04/04/2023 20:29

Ive got a Golden who sleeps on my bedroom floor. I also look after my daughters dachshund a few days a week and he likes to sleep in the bed under covers. It took a while to get used to as he's a bed hog, but I've learned to just swish him over to one side if he's creeping over to the middle.

KateFeather · 04/04/2023 20:31

My beautiful Labrador sleeps with us, and around the house. Mi always said this would never happen but, I love that furry face.

ComeOnThenFanny · 04/04/2023 20:31

I have my two 19 week olds in bed with us, I absolutely love it, but it's crowded and hot, and it drives dp mad. If we had separate bedrooms, I'd always have them in with me, but as it stands, I'm going to have to try and change it 🙄
