Old dog of mine had a bad reaction to his worming tablet and kept wanting to pace around at night.

So I slept outside with him so he could pace to his hearts content and find somewhere cool to lay.

When it started to rain, I took his doors but slept downstairs again so it wasn’t too hot for him upstairs.

I also used to push him in a dog pushchair as he had something wrong with his paws where the skin would wear away leaving open sores if he walked in concrete too long.

Our old dog towards the end of his life became afraid of the dark.

So DH and I took it in turns to sleep with him on the floor by his dog bed.

[heart hurts]

Love this idea for a thread!

My dog was a rescue from Romania. We didn't know much about his background so I learned some Romanian words like 'sit' 'stay' 'dinner' to see if he understood me 😂 I honestly felt like we would have a big language barrier between us.

rumred · 29/05/2022 09:26

@Soubriquet @SunnyLobelia dogs are just the best aren't they. You clearly loved yours very much. Mine are getting creaky and I made a step for the little one to get on the bed. I tuck the big one in at 6 every morning, he has his own quilt and bed. Why he needs tucking in at 6 i don't know.

Imnotahippo · 29/05/2022 09:28

I don’t own a dog but we have a friends dog staying with us
he was asleep on the sofa with his arse cheek on me,when he farted
a smell far worse than rotting death mixed with cabbages-and I didn’t move because i didn’t want to disturb him
i just breathed a lot through my mouth…

CosmopolitanPlease · 29/05/2022 09:31

I tried to watch 'Buried' but something about the heavy breathing noises at the start upset my dog so I turned it off. I still haven't seen it.

Several times a day our dog asks to sing. He sings along to two theme tunes and only those two, which I put on from YouTube. If I ignore his pawing and whining he will stand in front of the tv staring at the screen waiting. Sometimes we walk in the front room and the tv's off but he's standing there staring at the tv, waiting for his tunes to magically come on.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2022 11:31

Oh no at the farting one.

That sounds awful!

Dogs are awesome.

Before I got the pushchair for him, I took him in holiday to Cornwall where I spent most of my time carrying the heavy git because his paws were hurting.

When my old dog got diagnosed with diabetes, I had to learn to inject him twice a day.

He couldn't have them on an empty stomach so when he was off his food, I used to spoon feed him. To make him want it, I used to say "Here comes the airplane" and make the spoon 'fly' above his head, or make choo choo noises like a train 😊😂

This is utterly amazing, please film it!

I lost my gorgeous, handsome ddog last year and can't bear to replace him. He got away with murder, he'd creep under the end of my duvet in the night so I'd wake up with his doggy face stuck to the end of my nose every morning.

He was quite a big dog so I sacrificed most of my back door for a dog flap so he could mooch about the garden as he pleased. He also took me on walks and almost got me run over by darting over a zebra crossing instead of waiting because he was so excited.

I dogsat for a friend's pooch yesterday. She suddenly decided to be all cocky and if she wasn't humping me, was licking me constantly. I did all the assertive behaviour to get her to stop but she wouldn't. I resorted to the age old solution that works for toddlers and pets. The Stare. My ddog used to drop to the floor quivering when I gave him The Stare. Yesterday's pooch rolled over with her legs in the air! So I gave her a belly rub and a bit of ham from the fridge. We reached an understanding.

That’s hilarious Grin

Same dog here (he was a bit spoilt I must say) couldn’t jump on the bed very well.

So he would need lifting onto it and he would sit down and woof at me until he did.

Then he would get under the duvet and scratch himself a nice little den.

I would sleep around him

I've not had a dog long, and I walked with a friend and her dog last week, as mine squatted he obviously had some grass making his poo not come out so, casual as anything, I stuck my (poo bagged) fingers just into his bum got hold of the grass in the middle of the poo and gave it a yank so the poo came out . All the time chatting away. I don't recognise myself !!

Onemoresleeptogonow · 29/05/2022 21:37

One Halloween my ddog smashed a tooth on a bit of pumpkin. I used 800 quid of my Xmas savings for the vet's bill. She shouts at me every morning to give her my crusts. I have to snap them up small as she had half her teeth out that year!

GlassTable · 29/05/2022 21:40

I've never had a pet but honestly it's threads like these that mean I know full well I will be getting a dog one day ❤️

dudsville · 29/05/2022 21:45

One long gone, much adored pooch, was dying. We didn't know it at the time. The vet wanted a urine sample to help with diagnosis. Female pooch, so not as hard as it could have been, but cut to me and OH running out with this specially shaped container every time she went out, and dicing it beneath her when she squatted. We always laughed at what she must have made of us trying to capture this golden elixir!

dudsville · 29/05/2022 21:48

@stillherenow , I once had to pull out a poo stuck to a bit of stringy grass that hadn't digested. Funny how you can be all normal and then in the next instant helping a 🐕 literally poo!

This is adorable. I want a singing dog 😂

Our labrador sleeps on the evenings on the couch between me and dh. He likes stretching out and slowly but surely pushes and kicks us so he gets the most room and we are both jammed up against the couch arms. Whoever has the head end (usually me!) resting on their can't move as it will wake him or he will not move to give the seat back, so whoever gets the tail end (usually dh) is gofer for the night. 🤣

TheSpottedZebra · 29/05/2022 22:04

You people are all ridiculous! No one has asked CosmopolitanPlease what are the two themes tunes!

Bubbles1st · 29/05/2022 22:05

My little toy poodle is a Chinese meat trade rescue and isn't exactly the fittest little thing after broken bones and meningitis having affected his mobility. He spends most of the day on the sofa as getting on and off is such an effort.

So much so that when we feed breakfast the other 2 go outside so they don't make a mess on the floor whilst little poodle gets served his on the sofa like he is a bloody King on his throne.

Even on the days he has a burst of energy the little bugger comes running at the sound of his breakfast being dished up and then charges back to the sofa waiting for it to appear there!

MrsDrudge · 29/05/2022 22:06

Made him a party bag - he is too bouncy to attend a family event with young children present, so I put a chewy stick, two home made scones (with kibble instead of raisins) and a dog toy into a nice bag with his name on.

This is my favourite

Oh! Pulling grass out of ddog's backside...yeah, forgot that one PP! That's made me laugh, thank you!!

Soubriquet · 30/05/2022 05:54

I once had a dog come screaming through the house.

Wondered what on earth was wrong with her.

She was crying because a poo was hanging out attached to one of my hairs she had swallowed.

Had to get a tissue and pull it out

My dog has one favourite toy, a Christmas hedgehog from Aldi. It was getting to its last legs and would not withstand many more repairs, instead of just getting a new different toy I searched eBay with no luck. I ended up posting here about it and a lovely mumsnetter sent him a replacement.

He still has and plays with his hedgehog so was definitely worth it.

@msssm @TheSpottedZebra @Basilbrushgotfat

For those who are interested, I have uploaded to YouTube a clip of my dog singing to one of his theme tunes (the other is Family Guy, he must have a thing for Seth MacFarlane). He gets a bit distracted at the end when my son comes downstairs.

I realise this may be identifying but I haven't posted anything too embarrassing under this name so Smile
