Hi,

So a few months ago our dog was put into doggy day care for a few days whilst we went away. A few weeks later I got a call to say that he has gotten another dog pregnant, he is a KC registered lab, as is the bitch ( we will forget for the moment my suspicions surrounding this )

Anyway, since they've been in touch asking me for his kc papers and his pedigree etc!

They're obviously going to be making a huge amount of money out of this ... am I within my rights to ask for something before handing over his paperwork.

OP posts:

Imagine you send papers - an admission your ddog is responsible.. and then the dpuppies are poorly /not saleable. You will be getting vet bills sent out and threatening messages of blame op. Back way and have zero involvement...

Totalwasteofpaper · 28/12/2021 11:07

Good for you.

She is one cheeky bitch.. and the owner is chancing her arm too
(Sorry couldn't resist) Grin

gogohm · 28/12/2021 11:08

Sounds dodgy to me. The lab may not be owned by the kennels but I'm suspecting the owner is a friend/acquaintance. They knew you were bringing in an unneutered dog and planned it. No papers unless full stud fee and proof of that it's a first "accidental" litter and hip scores etc were done

GoGoGretaDoll · 28/12/2021 11:12

KC registration is about the only ethical thing in the increasingly murky world of breeding puppies - and it ain't all that ethical either if I'm being honest, but that's for another thread.

These are not ethical people. I would be fuming if I paid a premium for a KC registered pup made in these circumstances. Don't give them the papers.

Zilla1 · 28/12/2021 11:35

HNRTT but I find it interesting they are certain your dog was the only dog involved and want to KC register the puppies if it was an 'accident'.

eagerlywaitingfor · 28/12/2021 11:42

@Justkeeppedaling

*Umm I started reading thinking no you shoudnt get a stud fee, it was an accident and not a planned encounter etc (although how this has been allowed to happen at a registered day care is beyond me), however once I got to the asking for papers part I started to change my mind. It’s a shit way for puppies to be made with no health screening etc*

Why is this a shit way to make puppies? It's exactly the same way as pretty much every human being has been made, ever.

Why is it bad? Because of the potential for congenital defects being passed to the next generation, which happens quite a lot with pedigree dogs.

This can and does happen with close-knit human populations too (look up porphyria for instance), and incidentally is one of the many reasons why there are laws against incest.

MadeForThis · 28/12/2021 12:31

It's very suspicious.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 28/12/2021 12:36

How very convenient for the bitch owner, a free stud dog 😳
Tell her you want nothing to do with her, the puppies or the day centre then block them.

What's the usual fee?
NiceTwin · 28/12/2021 12:56

Report the day care to your local council licensing department, they have contravened section 24.1 of the animal welfare regulations 2008. This states that bitches in season shouldn't be accepted into day care if there are entire males and they cannot be separate.
The council will take a dim view.
One of my customers, I am a kennels, had her male dog in home boarding, he impregnated a bitch. She chose to have one of the puppies, the woman no longer home boards.

HoppingPavlova · 28/12/2021 13:07

Definitely report the centre to Licensing.

Floralnomad · 28/12/2021 14:12

If the daycare didn’t see the mating then I’d work on the assumption that it didn’t happen and these pups are nothing to do with your dog . Change daycare and block all of them .

icedcoffees · 28/12/2021 14:31

@socksandslipper - stud dog fees can be around £500, if not more.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2021 14:40

I feel sad for the DDog. I wonder how many times they tried before it worked.

It definitely can change the dogs behaviour, not always. But it can. It’s all so dodgy.

littlebilliie · 28/12/2021 16:02

Have the pups arrived they could be anything?

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 28/12/2021 17:17

I would tell them you are seeking legal advice about your ddogs semen being used without your permission...

Shambolical1 · 28/12/2021 20:05

That's as shady as.

How much attention is the daycare paying to not notice dogs mating? It goes on a bit...

Walk away. Have nothing to do with either party in this and report to the licensing authority.

I'd also get your dog checked out as there are a number of STDs dogs can pick up.

Tiramesu · 28/12/2021 20:34

Cheeky bastards. Neuter your dog asap

Barbie222 · 28/12/2021 21:29

I'd not have anything to do with it, how do you know the quality of the bitch etc. If you didn't buy your dog planning to breed he'll probably not be endorsed for breeding, and if you did buy him to sire pups you don't want a dodgy litter haunting you later.

Barbie222 · 28/12/2021 21:30

Also, how do you even know your dogs the sire for sure? Well dodgy

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 28/12/2021 21:44

Please do let us know what happens. I’m fuming for you. Smells like one monumental set up to me, they must think you were born yesterday. There’s no way they’d not have known if this was accidental. They used your dog for their own profit. So underhand and horrible.

Oh and please don’t neuter your dog if you don’t want to. I have a seven year old entire lab. He’s a lovely boy and I’m certainly not going to put him through a medical procedure for the sake of it. It could alter his behaviour messing around with his hormones now.

Mickarooni · 28/12/2021 22:05

Please report the doggy day care. No way should the dogs have been left unsupervised for a not inconsiderable length of time!

Goawayangryman · 28/12/2021 22:40

To all those saying 'neuter your dog'... the evidence is now quite finely balanced on this. Many responsible dog owners are not keen on neutering any more because it raises the risk of certain cancers and things like joint and ligament problems: painful/disabling for the dog and eye- wateringly expensive.

Mammals need sex hormones for health and behaviour, and to remove them for our convenience is a bit dubious.

Motorina · 28/12/2021 23:11

On top of all the very good suggestions, I'd be writing to the KC stating that you've been contacted by the owner, who says that your dog has sired a litter on her bitch. That you have no evidence at all to indicate this mating happened - it certainly wasn't with your knowledge or consent - and that, if anyone tries to register a litter in your dog's name then it may be fraudulent.

Given the disarray the KC is in it may not do anything. But I'd at least be trying to do everythign I could to ensure this litter was not registered with your dog as the sire. And I'd be checking his KC registration regularly - if a litter suddenly appeared, I'd be contacting the KC then to report it as possibly fraudulent.

I have bitches. If this happened to any of mine I would be incandescent. The health risks to the bitch of a mating, which I had not chosen to take. The risk of problems with the litter due to an unplanned sire. Puppies with a sire of unknown temperament. I certainly would not be taking the litter to term or reacting as this woman has. That alone tells me that she was in on it.

It's an utterly, utterly appalling way for both her and the kennels to behave. Either this mating did not happen, and she's trying to increase the value of a litter with who knows what sire by claiming they're from your dog. Or it did, and the care given by the boarding kennels was truly negligent. Either way, I'd be screaming to whoever registers the boarding kennels. And to the KC. And no way would I be party to any discussions with this breeder.

juneybean · 31/12/2021 20:49

Eh? What day care takes intact males?! I can't get my boy in for love nor money and I don't want to castrate him til he's 12 months.
