Should I get a stud fee ?

Hi,

So a few months ago our dog was put into doggy day care for a few days whilst we went away. A few weeks later I got a call to say that he has gotten another dog pregnant, he is a KC registered lab, as is the bitch ( we will forget for the moment my suspicions surrounding this )

Anyway, since they've been in touch asking me for his kc papers and his pedigree etc!

They're obviously going to be making a huge amount of money out of this ... am I within my rights to ask for something before handing over his paperwork.

Don’t engage with these scumbag chancers.

They are using you. They stand to make a shed load of money from this deal. Which may or may not have been brokered by the day care staff. And may or may not involve your dog. You have no way of knowing without a dna test and they cost thousands.

Do not engage.

I’d be more minded to leave a review online on trustpilot and others of the day are centre to say that you left your dog there and the staff allowed him to get a bitch in pup.

That will freak the living daylights out if anyone intending to send their entire bitch there and affect the company’s profits. And that will teach them an important lesson.

£100 stud fee. Cheeky feckers. The fact they are not going to sue the daycare people makes me think they are in on it or the whole lot of them are liars.

Then I’d leave and find a better day care. No chance I’d give them any papers at all. It’s too dodgy and you don’t want involved. I don’t know what else could go wrong but something could and you could somehow be held responsible?

Say a puppy is born unwell and they phone you for money for an operation to save its life and you feel so sorry for the little one that’s suffering you can’t say no as your dogs the dad. Or something. I dunno. I don’t know what it how. I just have the thought.

Walk away. Do not engage. Teach them not to manipulate and scam people.

And if the local authority grant them a license and animals being harmed on the premises is something that could shut them down I’d be in touch with the council too to let them know.

TheRealShedSadie · 28/12/2021 10:14

This is a very tall tale cooked up by your daycare setting and presumably one of their mates. They will make thousands out of this.

Report the kennels to the police and local authority and if you have the bitchs owners contact details report her too. Puppy farming or fraud I’ll bet and they probably have done it before.

If nothing else it might make them think twice before breeding more ‘accidental’ litters with no health checks.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 28/12/2021 10:14

Well they must hav been left unsupervised for quite a while. Ddogs don't do quickies! No papers op. Your ddog has been taken advantage of. Don't be a mug and go along with it.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 28/12/2021 10:15

Consider reporting them op.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/12/2021 10:15

No it's not the day care owners bitch.

How did this person get your contact details? How did they find out that only one lab was present at the time?

ShesMadeaTwatOfMePam · 28/12/2021 10:16

Good point about GDPR. How did the bitch's owner get your details?

DurhamDurham · 28/12/2021 10:17

Did the kennels owners just hand over for your contact details when asked?
It sounds totally unprofessional and suspect. They're surely in on the whole thing.

treesandweeds · 28/12/2021 10:25

Gdpr complaint about the kennels, ask them first how they got your context details. 200% unprofessional for the kennel to have given your contact details to them especially given they were supposedly negligent with the care of two dogs!

liveforsummer · 28/12/2021 10:30

If they want the papers then yes they need to cough up, agree this was 100% intentional and very unprofessional of them and shocking that they've dared to ask let alone expect it for free

godmum56 · 28/12/2021 10:31

That stinks of deliberate use of your dog to me. DO NOT hand over any papers. If they don't know your dog's KC name and details then don't tell them. If you make money from it you are as bad as they are or worse. And yes daycare or an employee must have colluded and I would be complaining and not using them again. Has your male dog mated before? because it can change their character and behaviour (not always) I would be incandesent if this had happened to my dog. I have had occasion to put an in season bitch in kennels (not daycare) in the past and the establishment went to great lengths to keep the bitch away from male dogs, whether neutered or not as it can cause fights among male dogs.

TheHoptimist · 28/12/2021 10:34

@Justkeeppedaling

*Umm I started reading thinking no you shoudnt get a stud fee, it was an accident and not a planned encounter etc (although how this has been allowed to happen at a registered day care is beyond me), however once I got to the asking for papers part I started to change my mind. It’s a shit way for puppies to be made with no health screening etc*

Why is this a shit way to make puppies? It's exactly the same way as pretty much every human being has been made, ever.

Speak for yourself I was not conceived through an encounter between my mother and a random male at doggy daycare

Because breeding from an untested dog or bitch can produce puppies with poor hips, poor eyes or hereditary diseases....and today humans with hereditary diseases or other risks can be screened or the embryo can to avoid passing such things onto children.....
Mellowyellow222 · 28/12/2021 10:37

@BitcherOfBlakiven

So you sent your unneutered dog to daycare, he got another dog pregnant and you want money from that?

Grim.

Do you have dogs?
army2426 · 28/12/2021 10:37

I originally agreed for the daycare to give the owners my details.

I've just contacted my breeder, to ask her advice no reply as her. She is an excellent breeder and I did a ridiculous amount of research before getting my boy including checking Health tests and COI scores etc.... so you're all absolutely right I won't just be giving his details over. I myself would never buy one of those pups due to no health testing and therefore I find it unethical to almost kid others into doing the same.

Thanks all for replies , and making me ask myself these questions. I will respond to the breeder now saying no papers will be sent.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/12/2021 10:38

what a fandango....I am just thinking about when you get a note from nursery about "incidents" your child was involved in, do DogDayCare not do the same, a note to each owner...

Rover and Fifi were caught in a compromising situation, please ensure you discuss the longterm consequences and the KC regulations on these matters with your pet :o

It does sound very iffy OP!

Bollindger · 28/12/2021 10:40

To be honest I would crack away from this fast.
Dear x.
Thanks for your info.
How did you get my contact details?
You only found out after your dog was pregnant, so we have no proof our dog is the sire of the puppies.
With this new information, I now feel it is entirely wrong for to link these puppies with our dogs lineage.
Enjoy your puppies.
X

Kuachui · 28/12/2021 10:41

I would want a stud fee yes or else no info

Branleuse · 28/12/2021 10:43

If all of you are just not getting your pets neutered anymore then theyre going to mate. Tell them its not your problem and youre not giving any papers without a better deal than that.
I wouldnt stop using the daycare as it makes no difference to you whether your dog shags another dog. Theyre cheeky to ask for his papers though and then haggle you down.

gingergiraffe · 28/12/2021 10:46

If someone knew at the time that your dog had mated with this bitch, surely the correct action would have been to inform both owners immediately. Then the bitch’s owner could have made a decision as to what action to take. Contact you to discuss possible fees, health checks etc, or take to the vet for a morning after pill. I wonder how far along the bitch was before you were informed. Sounds like a scam to me.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2021 10:51

If I had a bitch and put her into daycare trusting she’d be safe, then found out she’d mated. I have been furious and complaining to the day care. The bitch’s owner seems remarkably calm about the situation.

BoredZelda · 28/12/2021 10:52

How did they get your details @army2426?

Janeandjohnny · 28/12/2021 10:56

No, no, no you cant do this!!!

  1. You cannot say it was your dog that served the bitch.
  2. Its irresponsible of them to allow these puppies to be sold without hip and elbow checking the parents pre breeding.
  3. Theres no guarantee the temprement of the puppies will be solid given you dont know the bitch.

Just say sorry, you are not taking part.

liveforsummer · 28/12/2021 10:57

For some I guess the potential of around 20k made from puppies would soothe the anger
mm40 · 28/12/2021 11:00

Tell them all to ‘do one.’ And never take any of your dogs there again.

CoraPirbright · 28/12/2021 11:02

Excellent OP - I think blocking is the right way to go. I am willing to bet a pound to a penny that these chancers are in cahoots with the day care owners. I would be reporting them to all the relevant authorities!
