Dressing dogs up

Always hated dressing up dogs, ridiculous.
Understand it for very young, very old, or unwell. Or the thin coated like whippets/greyhounds, when very cold.
Every day adult dogs, just no. If you really want to spend more money on your dog, why dont you donate to rescue, for dogs in need.

Most of them don’t need coats or jumpers, either, unless they really feel the cold because they’re old or not bred for cold and wet weather. Dogs aren’t dolls to be dressed up.

Thanks for sharing your opinion - and for sharing a link to a press release designed to get tails .com dog food some free PR Hmm

The vast majority of dogs I see wearing coats are wearing something very practical, like an equafleece

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/12/2021 09:49

I give every month via standing order to 3 dog charities.

Doesn't mean I can't stick a reindeer hoodie on my dog for a quick Xmas photo 🙄

My (rescue) pug says piss off - he likes starring in his Christmas photo as Chief Elf

Oh yeah, looks like he's having a great time. Not Might be worth educating yourself about dog body language and asking why you'd do something your dog dislikes just because you think it looks cute. Who are you doing it for? It's not for the dog is it?
LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2021 10:09

Bollocks

He was dead happy in the jumper as he was cold - he's always trying to get under rugs and blankets

And the hat was on for 20 seconds while I took that photo (for the rescues calendar 🤦‍♀️)

Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 10:19

Well, Laurie,
Very defensive, why's that?
How do you know he likes it, can you speak dog?

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2021 10:24

Yes of course I can speak dog Hmm

He likes being warm - it's not much more complicated than that

He's out at daycare now with no jumper as he's happy running about - but on a sniff walk at home or when the hearings not on he tries to climb under the duvet or blanket with me

Not all dogs hate jumpers Confused

My other dog (beard and a thick coat) would never need or want a jumper

Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 10:25

@Chesneyhawkes1 That's great, good on you, but I didn't mean just for a pic, I meant all the time.

2 of ours wear a jumper. Only worn with us around not overnight as they can get them half off!!

Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 10:29

@user313213521
No doubt you think you are very funny with thanks for sharing comment, isn't that what this forum is for?

I've got a French bulldog. She absolutely hates the cold so she has a fleecy jumper. Her little legs tremble at any temp below 5 degrees here on Scotland. I think she looks a bit silly but she's warmer. I've even seen wellies and leg warmers for dogs in b&m recently 🤦🏼‍♀️she'd flip her nut if I put them on her 🤣

Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 10:30

If they want to get them off, does that not tell you, they dont want them on?

Not a fan for my dog. Labrador, so she doesn’t need a coat, nature provided her with an amazing waterproof one with a warm underlay.
Anyone else can do what they like as long as their dog is happy with it.
Don’t really like those all in one things that people put on working breeds “so they won’t get muddy”. Come on, get a teddy if you’re that bothered about a bit of mud Hmm

Don't mind the haters! Merry Christmas to you and your lovely hat wearing pug!
Tal45 · 22/12/2021 10:40

Some horses don't like a saddle at first but I don't see you complaining about people putting saddles on horses and how cruel that is and how it's not for the horse's benefit.

whatisthisinhere · 22/12/2021 10:42

My old dog hated the rain, wind, any kind of cold and wouldn't leave the house without a coat. She was a GSD. And not just when she was getting on a bit either, but ever since I got her.

hiredandsqueak · 22/12/2021 10:46

I'd love to put Bella in a coat because she feels the cold but if I do she stands still and won't move until I take it off. She happily wears a thundershirt in the house though which helps in firework season.

furbabymama87 · 22/12/2021 10:57

My dog needs a jumper after he's been the groomers. He's never tried to get it off and is more compliant on walks when he's wearing it, which suggests he likes it as he's warmer. His Halloween costume was just for a photo and then took it off as he didn't like it. He had it on for about 5 minutes.

doodleygirl · 22/12/2021 10:59

Bugger off - my old girl has arthritis, too cold to walk without a coat. Which tbh, she hates 😂

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 22/12/2021 11:00

Our already skinny Lurcher loses a bit of weight in the winter trying to keep warm without a jumper... They actually come sit for them on. They aren't forced into them.

Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 11:02

@Tal45

Erm, I am not saying about horses, I am talking about dogs and also cats, so how is that relevant to this discussion.
If you want to discuss that, why not open a new thread relevant to that subject?

OP posts:
Cherrypies · 22/12/2021 11:08

@doodleygirl

Another defensive one, why, it's just a discussion?
Anyway, I put unwell in the opening post.

Mine does feel the cold so has a jumper for walks when it is cold. She has no problems putting it on and will run away when i try to take it off. We have to keep her short as she hates being brushed and gets uncomfortable knots in her fur.

She also has a pair of wellies, just so she can chew those bloody things instead of my expensive ones not to wear, just like my friends dog has her own slippers 🤣

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 22/12/2021 11:21

My dog has a fleece top. If I don’t put it on her at night, she stands next to it looking sad until I put it in her Grin

She’s a greyhound/whippet cross and very wimpy about the cold.

OP, why do you think you can dictate how people should spend their money? Do you never buy anything frivolous (when you could have given the money to charity instead…)
