I’ve (responsibly) bred a litter of puppies and I need a naming theme!

Before anyone gets irate, this litter has been planned for nearly four years, back when I went on the waiting list for my bitch. Both my dog and the father have been shown at champ shows with success, the father has had international success, work in the field, have no allergies/health problems and exceptional temperaments.
They are also both hip and elbow scored with excellent scores, have had a BVA eye test and a gonioscopy, and have been DNA tested for all the relative inheritable diseases. The puppies’ COI is 2.4%. I’m keeping one puppy for myself, most have had homes allocated before conception, one lady has been waiting nearly 18 months.

Anyway, they’re 6 days old and I need to KC register them tomorrow. There’s seven of them. They need names on a theme, and despite thinking about it since we planned the mating, I’m still stuck. They were born in the early hours of the 9th of November and they’re Hungarian Vizslas.
There was loads of Aurora activity around that time where I’m from, so I was thinking about a His Dark Materials theme, but I’m also open to ideas.
There are four girls and three boys, picture is a few of them in a milk coma.

I like a his dark materials theme, I kinda fancy a Serafina

Needspace21 · 14/11/2021 20:27

Disney theme
Stars in the sky theme.
Oceans theme.

Anordinarymum · 14/11/2021 20:29

@Mantlemoose

Why don't you just name them one thousand, two thousand, three thousand. No need to be breeding in this day and age. How long are you going to wait to breed from the pup you're keeping? Don't like what I've got to say, don't breed them!
Stop getting your knickers in a twist. There are lots of reponsible breeders out there.

I would be more concerned about who is going to buy them and not what they are spending !

Vet your buyers. Be vigorous. Be rude if necessary. If they are genuine and good people they will understand OP

What about the Greek alphabet for names? Alpha Omega etc...

Yes!

I’m not familiar with this breed, just had a Google and they are adorable.

LocalHobo · 14/11/2021 20:34

What little sweeties.
How about a Dracula theme?
Bram Stoker, Captivate, Count, Creature, Van Hesling, Vlad.... I've run out (and it won't be popular I suppose).

bollocksthemess · 14/11/2021 20:34

@Mantlemoose you are entitled to your opinion of course. Funnily enough there are literally hundreds of applications for every one of my breed in the breed rescue.

As for my puppy, if she turns out to be a good worker in the field, an excellent example of the breed when shown in front of breed specialists, has a great temperament, has hip scores lower than the breed average and 0/0 elbow scores, a zero gonioscopy score and a BVA eye test that is clear, and if she reaches the age of two and a half without any allergies, health problems or injuries, and if my lifestyle at that time fits in with not working outside the house for 8 weeks and sleeping downstairs for at least three weeks, and if I have the capacity and the desire to work and show a third dog, and if there are enough people who have seen my new dog and want a puppy from her to allow me to find homes for them without advertising, then I might breed her. 🙄

I like your His Dark Materials theme.

Whitney168 · 14/11/2021 20:38

I am genuinely fascinated by what detractors of responsible breeding like this want to achieve. Would you really prefer that there are no longer any distinct breeds, and just want there to be generic mutts with zero health testing until dogs die out entirely (because obviously you want them all neutered)?

Thank heaven for breeders like @bollocksthemess, I say.

How about song titles, either from ‘your era’ or by a favourite artist, OP? Favourite books?

LadyCatStark · 14/11/2021 20:38

Or a bonfire night theme and name them after different fireworks since they were born near to bonfire night although I’m not sure if you’re in the U.K.

bollocksthemess · 14/11/2021 20:38

@Postdatedpandemic I might have to re-read the books again, I’d forgotten about Serafina!

@Anordinarymum most have had homes lined up since before conception, either to people I know from showing/training or people who know my bitch ‘socially’, she has a lot of fans. The last one to find a home is going to my dog sitter!

Do either side or dam’s name lead to a theme?

TheVolturi · 14/11/2021 20:39

Harry Potter theme? The house names perhaps as their "surname' with unique forename.

cultkid · 14/11/2021 20:40

Any more pics (so I can help with the names I promise 😆🧚‍♀️)

@LocalHobo they’re not a very fierce breed I’m afraid, although they are quite bitey as puppies!

All names beginning with N for the month they were born. Nova, Nat, Nala, etc

@Whitney168 sire is a Hungarian import, Magasparti Rutinos Johnnie Walker, I won’t put my dog’s name as she’s linked to my real name if you look her up on the kennel club, but her name doesn’t lend itself to a theme. Her pet name is Rita!

Surely if there are 7, it has to be the 7 dwarves? Like Aurora Doc.

Or even the origins from days of the week/days of the week in other languages?

Trying to think of anything else that is typically 7 to create a theme.
