Eventually we'll allow him to sleep in with the kids in their beds but DH not keen on him sleeping in our bed 🙁

GuyFawkesDay · 24/10/2021 11:42

Mine is the same but I am positive we would all sleep better like that. Hey ho. Not much I can do!

FawkesPup is definitely better. He had something vile stuck to his front leg last night which I think he had snorted up so maybe it was something stuck up there and all the snot was to force it out but with his temperature being up yesterday I'll make sure he finishes the antibiotic course.

He's full of beans today and far less snotty. So definitely on the mend! Been a royal pain in the arse this morning. Been for a long field walk and he had such a good time and has had a loo roll treat puzzle and now crashed out whilst I clean!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/10/2021 14:50

I think co sleeping seems like you'd get a good night's sleep but doesn't always work out like that. Terrier co sleeps and pup is crated in another room. Terrier jumps in and out, shifts position, stretches legs out regardless of who she is scratching....

cheeseisthebest · 24/10/2021 16:30

@opalescent

I'm sorry guys, that was tactless and I didn't think before posting. I am waiting every day for her to become a crate refuser. If it's any consolation, she bites the crap out of me every evening and is hell on a lead!
No not at all! I was only joking!
cheeseisthebest · 24/10/2021 16:32

Mine doesn't have a bed! Well he does but he never goes in. Another thing I bought that was a waste of money!

tizwozliz · 24/10/2021 18:22

So proud, a runner sneaked up on us on this evening's walk and Ada didn't attempt to jump up at him or follow him :-)

We saw a lot of runners on this mornings walk - think there was maybe some sort of fell running event on - so not sure whether that might have helped.

bargelights · 24/10/2021 18:35

Well done to Ada!

DH has taken our pup to visit some friends. Their older dog had to be put down very recently. Sad They have two other dogs, one of whom was extremely attached to the old girl. Hope our puppy can provide a bit of play and distraction for both dogs and people.

maddy68 · 24/10/2021 18:38

We and a fab puppy trainer. That told us that when we try to reassure a puppy/dog they then panic and think shit what am I being reassured over shoudk I panic?

She told us that wheb fireworks or anything worrying happens we should not even stroke it, ignore it, continue with a conversation etc. Avoid eye contact with the dog

It works ! My dogs honestly don't care about them

GuyFawkesDay · 24/10/2021 19:04

Yep, they look to you for how to react. Before we got FawkesPup I had a salutary lesson in this. We went to my cousin's with all the doggos. DS got a bit tense when they ran to him, one barked and then seeing DS looking scared they all started like "why are we barking, what's to be scared off, keep barking!"

Carrying on regardless seems to make them think everything is just fine, no need to stress.

We've been hearing gunshot today (we've got loads of bird farms nearby, could be that or crow scarers) and FawkesPup didn't bat an eyelid when he heard one.

He's definitely getting better at ignoring other dogs than he was. Still a big work in progress.

Off to see my parents tomorrow with the puppy in tow. It's worse than taking a newborn! Do I take the pen, do I not? How am I going to deal with the long journey? Will he sleep? Will the crap all fit in the car????? Hahahaha

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 24/10/2021 20:54

DH and I let the house in the early days, grappling wriggly bitey pup, manic terrier.... both looking at each other, doing a mental inventory of what we needed, puppy lead, puppy training treats, poo bags, primula, whistle, towel, water, bowl, bag of food...he muttered....nappies.....milk? and we had a chuckle about it being like trying to leave with small baby.

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/10/2021 08:55

AwesomePup has been coughing a bit this morning. I'm hoping he just had something caught in his throat but I'll be keeping an eye on him and we'll keep him home away from other dogs in case it's something contagious. He's also looking very confused as to where his bed is, as I've had to bin it after he chewed it and started pulling the stuffing out.

Goawayangryman · 25/10/2021 09:04

@GuyFawkesDay Good luck with the trip to your parents and I hope it goes better than ours Grin

Let's just say, cream carpet, dog ate something untoward at Toddington Services on the way up, and then topped it all off by falling in their deep pond :)

Bobbobbobbing · 25/10/2021 11:26

Can we join? Our boy is a bit older at 14 months but he's a rescue and a big lad so we're still in the puppy training stages. House training is fine, but the not chewing, digging, mouthing, jumping up bit less so! Off lead walks are a distant dream Grin

Obligatory photo attached- that's the heated blanket I bought for me but he's claimed it as his own...

Welcome @Bobbobbobbing. He's a handsome fellow isn't he?

Blaze has been coughing on and off all day, so we think he might have kennel cough 😢 It's not bringing him down though, he just had a lovely half hour digging in my raised beds. This is the dog that came into my house a few minutes ago to spread mud far and wide.

tizwozliz · 25/10/2021 17:41

Ada perfectly demonstrated why our drop training isn't going well earlier. I knocked a scoop containing kibble off the side earlier, she ignored the kibble and took the scoop and zoomied round the garden

So far he's been blooming amazing. Travelled beautifully, stopped for a wee and a walk. Gone for a good long walk, settled in small pen section now. He's done some training with my dad, walked with my mum on the lead and stolen shoes, sweet wrappers and socks 🤦‍♀️

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 25/10/2021 18:39

@GuyFawkesDay I think 'stolen' is a bit harsh. What you mean is collating/reorganising or something like that? 😆

Kennel cough appears rife at the moment

GuyFawkesDay · 25/10/2021 18:42

I think redesigning is the correct word, he's chomped her cheapo crocs into bits 🤣🤣🤣

Oh dear, I've been impressed with how well our cheapo Aldi garden clogs have stood up to being chew toys

Aria20 · 25/10/2021 19:19

@GuyFawkesDay Grin we lost a couple of sliders to sharky dog attacks!

GuyFawkesDay · 25/10/2021 19:49

Sounds about right! These are very old croc ripoffs. Mum doesn't mind. I'm so impressed with the pup for being clear about the toilet and he's been such a sweetie so far.

Tomorrow: first beach trip!

LadyCatStark · 25/10/2021 20:14

Billy’s holee roller came today, it’s huge! I’ve cut up 2 old t shirts and stuffed them inside and it’s the best thing ever! I’ve had to restuff it’s many, many times.

Aria20 · 25/10/2021 21:18

@LadyCatStark what size is that?

bargelights · 25/10/2021 21:37

I ordered one of those balls too. I think our pup will adore it since he enjoys pulling the stuffing out of his toys so much. However, his current favourite toy is a Spiderman figure that is actually a child's toy. He absolutely loves it: bouncing it, chasing it, chewing on it.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 25/10/2021 22:25

Pup loves nothing better than his metal food ball which he tosses in the air letting it crash on the kitchen floor, (repeatedly) or grabs it and runs at speed around the coffee table. The house suddenly feels quite small....

The holes looks a great concept
