If I could enforce enforce a nap I would but don't know how! He's currently barking cos he wants to jump up and nip me but we are all ignoring him cos he just needs to nap!

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 19:55

Oh bargelights. Some days are one step forward two back aren't they.

Aria20 · 22/11/2021 19:57

@cheeseisthebest what does he do if you leave him behind stair gate in another room so can still see you but you are ignoring? Does he eventually give in and sleep? Or alternatively can you sit and stroke him calmly without talking or anything until he sleeps?

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 19:58

Sorry to keep going on but one good thing is cos my husband had him on his own for the weekend we do now all seem to be on the same page. When he's exhausted we will just ignore until he sleeps. He has now given up barking and is mooching. And I've stopped running around getting various toys and treats to pacify him. I can't even give him eye contact cos he will just jump up to me!

bargelights · 22/11/2021 20:01

@cheeseisthebest will he go into a crate for a nap? We don't use the crate overnight but we do for naps sometimes. Of course I would never force him, he always goes willingly. Also if my pup is overexcited I sometimes put him in the crate for two minutes and it seems to reset things for him and calm him down. (That's what I should have done earlier today and now I'm kicking myself for letting DH get him even more wound up. Pass the gin, please.)

Goawayangryman · 22/11/2021 20:10

I reckon he sounds like you are his absolute favourite 100% person @cheeseisthebest.

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 20:11

No. I've still got the crate all set up. It would do him good too cos nice and quiet and calm. He has now gone to sleep.

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 20:12

Oh I absolutely am!! Grin
Bless him.

WomblingKnobhead · 22/11/2021 20:27

Our routine is varied but a typical day might be
6am awake -sometimes I take him for a walk on the beach for 30-40mins. I do about 15 mins LLW, rest off lead. Other times this walk is done by DH at about 9-10am. Sleep on sofa with me if not walking
7am-8am stroppy until he gets fed
8-10am restless, steals items
10am walk if he didn't get one earlier or sleep
12 stroppy until fed
DH often gives him another walk now
Afternoon is mix of sleep and play and stealing items
4pm-6pm stroppy until fed
Mix of play and dozing
7-8pm another walk
8pm sleep on sofa
10-11pm bed (hallway)

Evenings are calm generally

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 20:45

BTW my dog is totally food motivated. We were stuffing him full of treats in the evening to settle him but realised they were full of all sorts of crap and made him more hyper!

GuyFawkesDay · 22/11/2021 21:02

Rabbits ears do not smell at all @cheeseisthebest

Veg chews I got some from the supermarket! They're these ones:www.goodboy.co.uk/our-products/chompers-dental-bone/

Apology for delay in reply, I have been at puppy class

GuyFawkesDay · 22/11/2021 21:05

Oh and he peed on the floor there and would have 💩 too but I noticed he was wiggly and took him outside! Argh 😱😱

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 21:49

He has not slept for more than 2 minutes for hours now. He's now pacing round the bedroom. He must be so knackered.

Goawayangryman · 22/11/2021 21:54

Interesting reading about routines.

We have 719 am on the dot. Awake.

745am breakfast.

8am school run. 8.30 walk for half hour off lead.

9 till 12 bumbling at home with various stealing attempts. Some sleeping. Generally bored vibes. Has started going through to lounge for a play alone with some offal.

12.30 lunch. Look starving like haven't been fed.

Afternoon more bumbling and a sleep on my feet if home.

3pm school run. 4pm bite children so they run away.

5pm sleep while mum person cooks tea.

630.till 9 be an absolute frigging pain whilst family tries to eat dinner.

9.15 bedtime for everyone including mum person and kids.

WomblingKnobhead · 22/11/2021 21:58

bite children so they run away

I know I'm a bad person but this made me start laughing 😃

cheeseisthebest · 22/11/2021 22:01
