@sandwiches77 hope the meds help! Any ideas on what the issue is? Gracepup was sick the other day too but it was at the end of a car journey Confused wasn't fun to clean that up and I'm hoping it was a one-off

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/10/2021 19:16

Sorry to hear of poorly pups.

We did suspect wild mushrooms as part of the cause of AwesomePup's sickness. He's fully recovered now we think, he's back on kibble for all meals and has had a couple of chews with no problems. We're still introducing foods slowly and one at a time in case it's an allergy though.

We get the bum wiggle too. He practically bends himself in half he wiggles so much!!! Especially when I come home from work. That's the best moment of his day as far as I can tell.

I've got a whole week off work now, so we'll have some nice days out in the chilly autumn weather.

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 19:29

Pup was behaving so nicely this evening, went and sat on her mat under her own steam while I was preparing dinner. Was just a ruse though, I stepped away from the counter to go to the sink and she managed to snaffle half a raw chicken breast! So I guess that was her dinner this evening.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/10/2021 19:29

Get well soon vibes to poorly puppies and tired owners.

FawkesPup had had a nice play in the park with his spaniel puppy mate tonight. They're total plonkers and play fight, chase tennis balls and generally love the bones of each other.

He's also stolen some pizza off DD earlier (half a slice of a supermarket one) so I shall look forward to the resulting gas issues later 🤢

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 19:54

@tizwozliz very sneaky these pups! Mine stole a raw pork loin steak once and a large chunk of cooked gammon I'd been leaving to cool to save for another meal!

TheBigMacDougal · 22/10/2021 20:22

@sandwiches77 we got given the same food and told only a spoonful at a time. Also an anti sickness jab. He is starving and struggling to settle so fingers crossed he’s on the mend 🤞

cheeseisthebest · 22/10/2021 22:52

These poor poorly pups and their owners. Hope all much better soon.

Aria20 · 23/10/2021 07:52

Poor pup was up in the night with her cough. I hope it's a mild case and she recovers quickly.

Aria20 · 23/10/2021 07:53

Hope the sickly pups are back to normal soon too!

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2021 07:54

Add mine to the poorly list, he's got a cold! All sniffy and snotty, up half the night cos he can't breathe easily and is licking his snotty nose a lot. I did wonder if he got something up his nose at the park yesterday as they recently mowed it, but it's hard to tell. And he is snotty, not sneezing/blowing like he's trying to dislodge something irritating.

Seems quite chipper in that he wants to eat etc but is a bit quiet, bless him. Gone back to bed after breakfast as he's been up a lot. Normally he's tearing round the house with toys after breakfast and full of beans grabbing clothes and getting told off.

Aria20 · 23/10/2021 07:59

@GuyFawkesDay when I took mine vets for sneezing I was worried she had something up there and the vet said it's usually really obvious if something is up there as it swells so I hope that reassured you!

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2021 10:14

I'm assuming he doesn't need a vet, as they can't do much like with human kids. Sit it out, rest & fluids? He's eating fine, weeing, pooing and seems ok other than just being a bit snotty and subdued?

MightyMeerkat · 23/10/2021 10:17

Thank you for the new thread. Been away and haven't been able to keep up with everything so sorry if I missed something. I hope everyone is well and the poorly pups are improving.

MightyPup is 19 weeks now. She's grown loads and is doing really well. Still wants to be outside all the time and doesn't like sleep - although we had 6 uninterrupted hours last night which was amazing.

We have week 3 of puppy classes today. Last week was loose lead walking - not a great success 🙈 As soon as she has gobbled the treat, it's back to pulling like a freight train. Her new trick is to jump up also, all my clothes have mud on them and, together with the holes from sharp teeth, I feel like a right scruff!

Does anyone find that their pups stink? Mine does but I don't want to bathe her too often. She's not dirty, it's just a dog smell. Has anyone tried a dog deodorising spray?

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2021 10:42

We've got a doggy dry shampoo (in a black bottle) which is great. Spray, leave, brush dog and he smells less wet spaniel

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 23/10/2021 10:45

The terrier only smells if she has rolled in a dead or excreted 'something' 🤢 otherwise she's quite self cleaning and her fur shakes off all mess. Big boy is possibly more doggy smelling but he swims regularly and I suspect that helps (once we are past wet dog odour!)

I've never known a dog with a cold @GuyFawkesDay so would also wonder if it was something else

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 23/10/2021 10:50

Pup enjoying a bone from the butcher. He growled at DH when he went near him 😯

It always posts two of the same pic for me Hmm

cheeseisthebest · 23/10/2021 11:07

My dog smells even though I use dry shampoo and spray. I don't think shih tzus are meant to be bathed too often. His crate smells too even though I've just washed all the blankets, toys and mat?

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2021 11:33

I wash blankets and beds every couple of weeks cos they do smell and I think they transfer it too. I have also washed the soft toys too cos they were minging.

FawkesPup is still inquisitive, hungry and begging for treats. He just has a snotty nose. He sounds snotty. I've booked him in the vet this afternoon just to get him check over with him being a tiddler.

He slept badly (as did I) with the snot, he couldn't settle like when tiny babies have a snotty nose). In the end I let him loose in our bedroom and he mooched and snoozed on the floor, and got back in his bed about 3.

Aria20 · 23/10/2021 11:35

@GuyFawkesDay if he seems otherwise well, eating and drinking and toilet all fine id prob wait and see. Mine def was a cold little sneezes and licking her snot but she was fine after couple days, wish id saved the vet fee!!!

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2021 11:45

Yeah I think he's just a smidge under the weather. Just wiped his snotty nose on my jumper. I'll get him checked out as he's been playing in leaf/grass piles in the park and he might have something up there I suppose. I'd have expected to see head shaking, snorting if it was a foreign object. Will see what the vet says. He's begging for my biscuit and has just had some fun with his treat dispenser so i am not too worried right now

I've found these products amazing for getting rid of smell - the orange oil can be diluted with water and sprayed on to carpet etc

This dog cologne smells amazing and stays on them all day. Someone said he smelt amazing when they picked him up!

My dog started smelling and then it turned out he had developed an ear infection.. Might be worth a check! Gracepup is a cavapoo so more prone to this

tizwozliz · 23/10/2021 13:11

Might just be noseblind but Ada doesn't seem to smell much at all. A slight smell if she's damp but that's it. She's never had a bath

bargelights · 23/10/2021 14:02

Hope all the poorly pups recover quickly.

How does everyone feel about leaving a puppy unsupervised with something edible? I’m ready to bite the bullet and leave the pup on his own briefly. He’s as good as gold when we’re here, but I think he could get up to mischief on his own. He’s very food motivated so I’m toying with the idea of of giving him a frozen stuffed Kong or similar. It would probably keep him occupied for while but I worry about choking. I’ve heard horror stories about that, though many people have also said they happily leave their dogs with treats and never encounter any issues.

tizwozliz · 23/10/2021 14:23

We finished our canine superstars class today. Based on today's behavior the rosette we got was not well deserved! Next step gundog training. Slightly concerned she's not at the correct starting level.

She's also been quite bitey the last couple of days, after not really biting for months. Trying times
