@MrsHerculePoirot

I think we’re quite a busy house and no day or week is the same so don’t think we’ve managed a routine of any kind 🤣

Anyone else golf older dogs/pups. At 8 months we’re back to jumping up, a bit of mouthing again (although less sharp teeth phew!) and a bit more unsettled, not quite what to do with himself. Trainer said it’ll last about 5 weeks then start to settle a bit. Just wondered if anyone had been through it and if any tips? We’re upping walks and sniffy walks as I’ve read they have a hit more energy to burn in this period, he’s a bit more food obsessed so we’ve retrained settling on mat or floor when we eat. Trying to up the brain games, and do more bursts of training but with things we know he can be successful with as feel he gets frustrated otherwise not having the patience to work out what we want!

Mine’s 9 months old, when she’s fidgety and restless I up long sniffy walks and short, energetic ball chasing sessions along with a bit of training. It seems to work - it’s a balancing act between avoiding overstimulation and getting some peace and quiet!

@tizwozliz how did kennel cough start?

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 08:00

It started seemingly out of nowhere. Pup had been asleep on the sofa in the evening for a bit then woke up and started coughing like something stuck in her throat. This quickly progressed to coughing and retching which continued hourly overnight. The coughing only lasted a couple of days and after the first day was only really after she'd been running around in the garden. She was a bit snotty as well but that came after the cough.

sandwichpup has sickness and diarrhoea, just waiting for the vet to open Sad

Oh no poor sandwich pup

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 09:08

@tizwozliz was it a proper cough or more like when we clear our throat? Pup seems to be making a throat clearing sound this morning but it's not a proper cough. She definitely hasn't eaten or swallowed anything she shouldn't. Sounded like she was going to be sick but nothing came up. Will keep an eye!

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 09:15

It definitely started as more of a throat clearing sound, because initially we thought she'd got something stuck in her throat. There's lots of kennel cough around it seems, I've seen posts from local dog walkers and friends lab had it a week before we did despite being vaccinated (not related haven't seen them in months) and vets confirmed the same.

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 10:19

@tizwozliz did you get any medication from vets for it? Poor pup if it is kennel cough at same time as her season double whammy but I guess least will be home and away from other dogs anyway!

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 10:32

@Aria20 - no medication. I rang the vets the morning after symptoms and they said if she was happy in herself and eating, drinking etc. normally then they wouldn't medicate at that point. I gave honey in a little water a few times a day.

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 10:35

This was a couple of days after symptoms started! I think she had a fairly mild case

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 10:52

Bless her she doesn't look too troubled by it. I will monitor and try some honey later if it continues. Did you feed as normal?

tizwozliz · 22/10/2021 11:02

Yes, fed as normal. I was a bit concerned that the coughing and retching might make her food reappear but no such troubles.

LadyCatStark · 22/10/2021 11:29

Sorry there are so many poorly pups! Here’s a pic of Billy enjoying the autumn leaves 🥰.

My puppy did a very cute thing while playing. I often hide treats and toys in a towel for him to find. He took one of his toys, put the towel over it, then removed the towel. Do it yourself hide and seek. Smile

Yesterday for the first time someone referred to him as a dog rather than a puppy. Sob. Where has my little puppy gone? (I’m actually fine with him growing up, I just felt a little pang in that moment.)

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 13:08

@bargelights I feel the same I call her pup most of the time except when she's naughty I say "the dog" 😂

TheBigMacDougal · 22/10/2021 13:35

@sandwiches77 how is pup?

We’ve been back to the vet this morning as the food Mac pup wolfed down yesterday came up this morning undigested. Couple of jabs and £100 later, we’ll see how he goes 😕. Still fine behaviour wise just starting to look a bit skinny. He’s only 0.8kg heavier than 4 weeks ago so definitely think it’s dropped off him.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 22/10/2021 16:46

A friend suggested mushrooms were responsible for pup's blepharitis and I think @MsAwesomeDragon suspected similar cause in her vomiting pup.

Goawayangryman · 22/10/2021 17:19

There are loads of mushrooms around at the moment so wouldn't be at all surprised.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/10/2021 17:53

My colleague's lab had to have a charcoal treatment thing as he ate mushrooms. Drooling, wobbly. Apparently he's now pooping black 😂

graceandgratitude · 22/10/2021 18:26

So sorry to hear so many pup's have been poorly! I went through a load of worry not too long ago with upset stomach issues - never realised how common it was in puppies. Today I was at work all day in London, leaving gracepup with DP all day. DP struggles to do anything productive when on puppy duty... I've really missed him today. I'll be home soon and can't wait for cuddles and to see his cheeky face and wagging tail. When he's happy his whole bum wiggles as he wags. It is just the best. I love their little quirks. Picture for cuteness (hoping it will upload as I've always had trouble!)

graceandgratitude · 22/10/2021 18:27

p.s. no joke I have just had a message from DP saying Kaspar is constipated and has smeared poop all over the floor face palm - maybe I'm not in such a hurry to get home after all!

Goawayangryman · 22/10/2021 18:43

Uuurghhhh. I think you need to stop off on the way home for very urgent supplies, @graceandgratitude

Aria20 · 22/10/2021 18:46

Ahhh @graceandgratitude mine does the whole bum wiggle too! I can have just left the room for 10 mins and she'll be so excited to see me she'll do it lol.

sandwiches77 · 22/10/2021 18:49

Back from vets. Sandwichpup has a load of meds, had an antisickness injection. I've attached a photo of the food that we have to feed him on.

@Aria20 the bum wiggle is the best isn't it! I hope he always does it and doesn't grow out of it.

Secretly hoping DP has done the cleanup but that might be wishful thinking as he's probably tired from a whole day of it!

Luckily I've just bought a bunch of cleaning stuff - it's become part of the essential items in the shopping!
