Anyone got any ideas why Billy has decided to start eating the walls? 🤬 and any suggestions for how to stop it besides murder??

cheeseisthebest · 01/11/2021 10:31

Anyone any idea why my puppy whimpered all night? He's in out bedroom now, he's not coming in our bed too!

Aria20 · 01/11/2021 10:35

Thank you @Goawayangryman it is very upsetting but to be honest not unsurprisingly my husband is behaving like this. I am very stuck though with 3 children and a pup I have nowhere else to go and can't afford to go alone as I'm not currently working - studying full time and caring for a family member.

Thank you all for the advice, I have this morning emailed my current trainer to see what she suggests and am also researching local behaviourists. It's so lovely to have all the support on here, I am so grateful as I haven't told anyone in real life yet x

cheeseisthebest · 01/11/2021 10:41

Good luck Aria xx hopefully some behaviourists and trainers will get back to you todsy .

Turquoisesol · 01/11/2021 10:44

Aria20 I think the behaviourist should be able to give you some reassurance. I know what you mean re telling people in real life, it always feels like these things are hard to admit as many people won’t understand and you dont want everybody passing comment and judgement. Once you get a professionals view point it will be easier to move forward.

Goawayangryman · 01/11/2021 10:47

@Aria20 I know that feeling well. You won't always be trapped, though. Keep going with the course, upskilling and financial freedom is definitely the way to go. Sounds like your husband needs a good talking to and you setting your stall out - no, the dog won't be rehomed, no I won't tolerate the grumps and you giving me the silent treatment, and how very dare you put me in this position where you've upset us all so much, sort of thing. He can go if he doesn't like it, then you won't have to go anywhere.

Goawayangryman · 01/11/2021 10:48

Just for reassurance also, our pup has nipped a couple of times when demented with overtiredness. We know it's just that, and wouldn't dream of rehoming her on those grounds. Total over-reaction on your DH's part.

LegsMiserables · 01/11/2021 11:52

Hi all, I've got lots to catch up on, but just wanted to suggest for the fireworks - my puppy school has an app with loads of different noises on it. The principle is that you play each noise 10 or more times, getting louder each time. Meanwhile, you play with them or give treats so they associate good things with that noise. You start really quietly.

It has worked brilliantly with MiserablesPup and drills/ general renovation noises (which are everywhere). If the app work in the UK, you could just use YouTube videos of fireworks.

LegsMiserables · 01/11/2021 11:53

This is the app

LegsMiserables · 01/11/2021 11:54

Pants. This is the app.

Anyone any idea why my puppy whimpered all night? He's in out bedroom now, he's not coming in our bed too! same here on Friday night....last night was 2 hourly visits to him and cannot identify why

Anyone got any ideas why Billy has decided to start eating the walls? 🤬 and any suggestions for how to stop it besides murder?? uhuh...not walls but frenetically searching surfaces for items to remove, chew, rearrange, relocate.....

I'm still considering if he's hangry but balancing that with not wanting to overfeed. Tonight I'm back on the sofa because I can't bear another night of in and out of bed and think I'll test to see what it is he wants. I'm starting to hear him in my sleep so not sleeping well. Hospital at 7.30am tomorrow for DD's surgery so I really need some sleep.

DH's mum suddenly deteriorating and he may need to go and stay nearby leaving me without dog daycare. Several staff might be leaving at work (covid burnout) and we will be down to

Goawayangryman · 01/11/2021 14:29

Could the wakeful pups be hearing fireworks? Heating noises? or suddenly growing and therefore being hungry?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 01/11/2021 15:50

I think hungry. He's oblivious of fireworks...walked off lead on the beach the other night whilst they crashed and banged around us. I upped rations last thing on Saturday and he slept until 2am then 6am. Yesterday I lost faith in that theory and restricted again (I say restricted but he's having 350-60g compared to recommendation of 250g) and not a great night again.

Because I'm so tired I didn't take him for a long walk last night....I'm up at 6am walking him, walked mid afternoon...but still...an evening linger walk would help

ooh that looks early. Jealous of you living near the beach. But not the wakeups!

Personally I've found poo consistency to be best indicator of whether they are getting enough or too much. Hardish - probably not enough food. Hard in morning getting softer over the course of the day and ending up... bleurgh... too much. Poo that comes away from the ground cleanly, just right . I can't believe I've just written that but there we are.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/11/2021 16:20

@LadyCatStark adolescence dickheadedness is my guess. PoirotPup has chewed and swallowed my fitness tracker and had to go to vet to be made to vomit. He also ate something DS made from air dry clays and his chuckit thing. He’s never been a chewer of illegal items before. Don’t know if they new teeth or just bloody pests. Sorry doesn’t help but solidarity.

@cheeseisthebest maybe fireworks in the distance? There’s a lot about and lots of comings and going’s with Halloween etc maybe?

tizwozliz · 01/11/2021 16:34

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse do you think maybe the Eden just doesn't suit him. Part of the reason we went with Millies Wolfheart is all the different mixes - it makes sense to me that spaniels v labradors v collies etc. all have slightly different requirements. I know my friend who has labs and a spaniel feeds them different things, it wasn't as simple as just changing quantities.

I'm so over being sick now. Pup and I went to bed at 8:30 yesterday. Never really considered how tiring it is being sick and still having to make sure pup is looked after. I'd love to have a total week off from any doggy care right now.

Commiserations to everyone else dealing with their own struggles.

And a photo just for a bit of positivity

Fairly sure we are starting the second season. Still on early morning asks to go out (and she genuinely needs to go bless her), lots of licking, some swelling but she is needing to touch one of us nearly constantly.

And obviously this six monthly cycle matches up perfectly with the six monthly cycle of my peak busy time at work.

GuyFawkesDay · 01/11/2021 17:06

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse could be it just doesn't suit, or maybe feed the Eden ration and top with some wet? That might fill up the old tummy?!

LadyCatStark · 01/11/2021 17:15

@MrsHerculePoirot probably, he’s been called a knobhead more than once today 😂.

BaconAndAvocado · 01/11/2021 17:18

We're going to be changing Newboy's (also a Lab) original kibble soon.
How much does Millies Wolfheart cost a day?
I've heard good things about it.

LegsMiserables
Thanks for that. We've been watching/listening to YouTube videos of fireworks 🤞🏻

Goawayangryman · 01/11/2021 17:34

If anyone would like some Millie's and is in SW London/ surrey then let me know as I have around 10kg of Countryside Mix going begging - doggo will not entertain kibble at all, even posh kibble. We're on posh wet now, can't do raw (which is the next most economical foodstuff) owing to immunocompromised family members.

Goawayangryman · 01/11/2021 17:37

Sorry, to answer q, Millie's is around £57 for a 14 kg bag. Feeding guide here:

www.millieswolfheart.co.uk/feeding-guide

tizwozliz · 01/11/2021 17:53

@BaconAndAvocado - it works out somewhere around 1.20 a day for us at the moment.

Aria20 · 01/11/2021 18:30

@BaconAndAvocado millies works out about 70-80p a day for me according to the website but actually I use less as mix with wet food too. A 4kg bag costs about £22 and lasts me well over a month. They do 700g bags of all the flavours for £5 as well so you can order a few flavours to try before committing to a big bag!
