The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

Oh he's stunning ❤️ mines great grandma is a bischon so she doesn't have such a flat face

BaconAndAvocado · 18/10/2021 13:05

Gorgeous pup pics !

I left Newboy for the first time on his own in the house today for 30 minutes.
No little gifts when I got back! Probably a one-off.
I gave him a big treat. Will stick to 30 minutes this week then increase gradually.

cheeseisthebest · 18/10/2021 13:34

Well done! Was he crated for 30 mins or wandering? I can't decide which is best.

BaconAndAvocado · 18/10/2021 14:54

He was just wandering in the kitchen area.
I gave him a treat before I went out to to keep him a bit busy!

I guess I wouldn't know if he'd been barking but I don't think I've ever heard him bark (yet) so hopefully it was all good!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/10/2021 14:55

He still goes in his crate for sleeps but I've never closed the door on it.

TheBigMacDougal · 18/10/2021 15:44

@BaconAndAvocado that’s great! We have started to leave Mac pup free while we’re out of the room. Might be just to get a shower, or 40 minutes in the morning while he’s snoozing. We haven’t ventured out of the house with him free though, might try that this week.

bargelights · 18/10/2021 16:09

I need to start allowing our pup some unsupervised time to see how he gets on. So far he has been fine for a few minutes when I throw some laundry in the washing machine or something like that. I think I'll try leaving him for 10 minutes or so (and hope he doesn't get up to any mischief), then gradually build up from there.

BaconAndAvocado · 18/10/2021 16:33

TheBigMacDougal that's exactly how I started leaving our pup on his own.

I'm looking forward to being able to go out to the supermarket during the day. Big dreams 😂

GuyFawkesDay · 18/10/2021 18:37

Is it weird mine is absolutely fine if I leave the house and he's home with other people but if I'm home and not in the room he gets upset?

I'm going to try leaving him solo tomorrow for the school run, in the kitchen with his bed etc

cheeseisthebest · 18/10/2021 19:17

My problem is there's always someone home! Going to try leaving him tomorrow if it's only me at home. Need to do it everyday. I've also got the vets tomorrow for monthly flea and worm, I've got it with the nurse who helps with his behaviour stuff so going to ask about leaving him and my difficulties at nighttime!

sandwiches77 · 18/10/2021 19:18

Not left sandwichpup on his own yet, he whines when I go to the loo! When I go swimming DH is here and he says sandwichpup whines when I first leave but is fine after that. Sandwichpup does sometimes take himself off into his crate. What do you leave for your puppies while you are away?

Sandwichpup has been really hard work this week, he has been jumping up all the time, or biting or scratching. He is teething as we found a tooth at the weekend so they might account for some of the behaviour change. He has also been off his food, friends with dogs said it was probably because of his teeth Hmm having said that I soaked his kibble in water and put some wet food on the top and wolfed the lot down really quickly, I've not seen him eat so fast since we first had him.. I gave him more food as he had left his breakfast again and he wolfed that down too, so now thinking he might have been hungry Hmm as he hasn't eaten much for a few days. He kept spitting out the kibble!!

Oh my dog barks all the time! You are so lucky! And still won't cuddle, just jumps off!
MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 18/10/2021 19:43

No idea what caused pup's eye reaction but settling nicely. However his bowels appear to be pretty affected now. I needed a hose not a bag when he left 2 pints of diarrhoea in the middle of the crowded pavement 🤢😳😟

TheBigMacDougal · 18/10/2021 20:04

@GuyFawkesDay my friends labradoodle is like that. Whines if she’s in another part of the house, but manages to settle if she’s out. You might find you are fawkes pups ‘person’. Apparently it can be quite common for spaniels to be a one person dog. Not to say they don’t bond with the rest of the house/others, but have a stronger link with one person.

GuyFawkesDay · 18/10/2021 21:46

Oh yeah, he's definitely my dog!! Mr Velcro!! He does anything I ask, ignores much of everyone else 🙈 so they're coming to puppy classes too to help them

sandwiches77 · 18/10/2021 22:01

makemecleanthehouse sandwichpup eye was swollen (vet thought bee sting) and he was prescribed piriton!

lifestooshortandsoami · 19/10/2021 06:54

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse poor boy hope it gets better soon

I failed to get pup straight outside for a wee this morning as he ran off thinking I was playing and then did the biggest wee ever on the kitchen floor!! Then turned into bitey monster when I was trying to clean it up Hmm he’s sleeping well though and I’m realising this is prob the price I’m paying as he doesn’t sleep as much as he should during the day??!

567and · 19/10/2021 09:36

Poor makemepup! How is he feeling today @MakeMeCleanTheHouse

Weather is awful here today. Windy and raining so half term jaunts are off for today. Managed a nice walk down the canal yesterday and went in a cafe that is dog friendly. He was so good and ate a chew then snoozed whilst we ate, so will definitely do that again. He did, however, jump in the canal. And then straight back out again when he realised it wasn’t warm like the bath! 😆 Met lots of other lovely dogs though and feel like I’m getting the etiquette a bit better now with regards to who to allow him to approach etc.

cheeseisthebest · 19/10/2021 11:33

Well through a friend of a friend I've just had half hour of free dog training advice from a dog behaviourist!
She thinks it is separation anxiety and to leave him for few mins each day and gradually build it up. Said write it down and keep track. Also show him I'm putting my shoes on, get keys etc.
At night said to come down and sleep on sofa with him is actually the right thing to do! Until he gets more secure.
Feel so relieved that in some ways I am doing the right thing!

tizwozliz · 19/10/2021 18:54

Pleased to be out and about again, although still avoiding other dogs until the end of the week.

Bought a hol-ee roller ball on a spur of the moment in the pet shop yesterday, it's a big success. I'm stuffing strips of tea towel in alongside a treat and pup loves pulling them out. I can't remember if it was on this thread that someone mentioned toys that pull apart but if you have a pup that enjoys unstuffing things this definitely taps into that behavior.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/10/2021 19:19

FawkesPup loves the holey roller ball too. I've stuffed it the sake with big strips of an old t-shirt.

He also likes an old teatowel with treats rolled up in it and then knotted.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/10/2021 19:20

Your lab is looking very grown up @tizwozliz!!!

FawkesPup went to the groomer today. He loved it, until he saw himself in the mirror & insisted at barking at the handsome beasty he could see 😆😆😆

Aria20 · 19/10/2021 19:21

@tizwozliz I had a similar ball to that and she destroyed it!!! However, I didn't put stuff in for her to pull out and just let her play with it as a ball (which she loved) so maybe if I had stuff in it she'd have done what yours is doing! Once she's ripped the old towel out do you put it back in?

tizwozliz · 19/10/2021 19:38

@GuyFawkesDay - she looks very grown up in some photos, then still like a tiny little pup at other times.

@Aria20 - yes, I just restuff if I think she still wants to play with it

Aria20 · 19/10/2021 19:41

@tizwozliz thanks I've added to my basket on Amazon and will try again! What size did you get her? She looks younger again in that photo!
