The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

Is it normal for dogs to wake up with gloopy gunk in their eyes? It's not conjunctivitis as she's had that before and it's different. When I saw the vet I mentioned it and she said if it's only in the mornings and once you've wiped it away it doesn't come back then it's prob like us getting sleep in our eyes in the morning?? I am questioning this as she didn't used to have it when she was really little... I'm wondering if it could be an allergy but I'm not sure what too as I haven't changed anything?

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/10/2021 09:06

@Aria20 PoirotPup gets that and deffo not conjunctivitis as he had that as a tiny puppy and it’s different! No idea what it’s from but it doesn’t seem to bother him and I just wipe it away. It seems to be getting a hit better recently for us.

I think something has spooked PoirotPup this morning - he keeps trying to sit on my lap, under my arm, under my leg and can’t settle, ears back…. I think DS has scared him somehow (he’s watching stuff on iPad with headphones) but don’t know what it was or how?!?

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2021 09:13

@Aria20 FawkesPup gets it too. I had a couple of days where I thought it was getting worse but those were the days he had been digging in the garden and I suspect he had some dirt in his eyes. I used cooled boiled water with salt in to make saline and just wiped them out with a flannel in the morning and a couple of days later it was all better.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2021 09:51

Right, this dog stinks. His farts are SO toxic. Time to slim the diet back to basics and stop the kids feeding him god only knows what off their plates.....

I was angry with owner but straight after the incident Newboy was bounding on top of lots of other dogs so I think he was unfazed.

😂😂 Newboy's farts are tantamount to chemical warfare too.
Aria20 · 17/10/2021 10:57

Ok I'm glad other dogs get it too. I do clean it away but every morning it's back!

lifestooshortandsoami · 17/10/2021 11:21

@Aria20 pup had lots of fun with the Amazon package this morning- had tried other cardboard but he wasn’t bothered as much but he loved it this morning thanks for the tip!
Just trying to get him to have an enforced nap as he just keeps going unless we prompt he might want a sleep 🙈

Aria20 · 17/10/2021 11:31

@lifestooshortandsoami glad the Amazon parcel was a hit! They always are here, more of a challenge than normal cardboard lol!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 17/10/2021 11:44

Empty plastic bottles always a hit here and smaller ones fit nicely between bitey jaws.

Gloop eyes after a beach visit usually. I've heard cold tea bags are good for wiping. No idea if there is truth in this. We went to a little cove today and a shoal of whitebait had been driven ashore by bigger predators and beached themselves. I fed terrier straight from the beach and collected more for topping off meals for both dogs.

My pup is not bad at night. We often have one nightime visit to the garden but he gives a little whine, one of us opens the cage, her's out, in and straight back in the crate now and I'm usually in bed in under 10 mins. Last night he went 11am until 6.40am when my sneaking to the loo woke him. I quite like early morning walks 9n the beach now.

I've bought a wax wide brimmed hat for rainy walks. DD is horrified 🤣 but it will keep the driving rain from dripping down the back of my neck and mean I don't need a hood up

lifestooshortandsoami · 17/10/2021 11:55

Oh plastic bottles are a good one! Will try that too.

Do other pups just fight sleep? He does really well during the night but in the day he just doesn’t want to stop but can tell he’s overtired??

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse the hat sounds a good idea! I bought awful cheap clog type shoes that dd hates but they’ve been great so far!

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2021 12:47

Mine loves an empty coke bottle. For added fun, stick a few bits of kibble in to rattle about and try and get out.

Glad the Amazon box worked, they were the best puppy toy. Use the brown paper to wrap up kibble/treats and put them back into an empty box....there will be a lot of mess but puppy will have a ball and be tired afterwards!

Mine also loves treats in a loo roll. Do this x2, squish them and fold lengthways and stuff into a 3rd loo roll.

bargelights · 17/10/2021 12:47

A few weeks ago we gave the puppy a cardboard box with some treats inside. He somehow managed to get his whole head in the box! Of course I removed it right away but I wish I’d taken a picture. It was very funny. He was happy as a clam with the box on his head!

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2021 12:48

I've got a new woolly hat. I did eye waxed ones up tried one on at the joules big sale thing near me....and then had that awful "oh shit, I look like my mother" I also resisted a tweed coat and another coat for the dog 😂

Hi everyone. I've missed nearly two weeks of chat as we've been away, but hope all is OK.

TerrorPup stayed at my parents whilst we were away - and it went okay ish. Equally my parents haven't had a young dog for 15 years so wasn't expecting it to be easy! She's come back with some bad habits - more jumpy up, very barky (their dog is a barker), pulling on lead and attention seeking but after a few days she seems to be remembering our house rules. The pulling on the lead is frustrating me as we'd worked so hard to crack it and we live in a busy area so I really need to feel like I've got her under control.

In more positive news her recall actually seems to be sticking. We've done a few long line sessions this weekend with some excellent recall, including in a field with another dog.

Now just to deal with her upset tummy (loose poos a very four hours through the last two nights)...

Read this with interest as we're going away in a few days and leaving Newboy with my parents.

They don't have any other pets. Really hope he remembers everything I've taught him!

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/10/2021 13:49

AwesomePup has thrown up again this morning. And we haven't been out in the field with the mushrooms so we must have been wrong about that. I'll ring the vets in the morning and try to get him booked in. He's still happy in himself though, so it's now turned into an "annoying thing to figure out" rather than the emergency thing it felt like a couple of weeks ago.

LadyCatStark · 17/10/2021 14:41

@Aria20 Billy wakes up with sleep halfway down his face every morning.

Billy has been to his favourite place today and done his favourite activities: jumping and splashing. The second picture his the splash he made when he jumped into a pool and went right under 😂.

No coughing today so we've been out for the first time in a week - good to get out. Hopefully just another week of avoiding dogs and then back to normal. Also weighed the little sleep thief - 18.8kg.

lifestooshortandsoami · 17/10/2021 17:33

@LadyCatStark love those photos!

RiskyCookie · 17/10/2021 18:15

Could I please join?

We have recently acquired a 16 week old Cockerpoo pup.

We already have a 4 year old Cavapoo..

I forgot what the puppy stage is like!

She hates her crate, flat out refuses to walk on a lead and just plonks herself down.

I've enquired about some local puppy dog classes but they're all booked up.

Picture of the offender.

She’s adorable, @RiskyCookie.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/10/2021 19:35

Oh @RiskyCookie what a cutie!

Where is that @LadyCatStark? I am heading up to the Fylde in half term and taking FawkesPup to the beach for the first time 😊

The dopey dog has a bit of a limp. He has worked out what tennis balls are for and has been charging round the park with one in his gob and we played a bit of fetch (literally 5 throws) then he's had epic zoomies in the house and clattered into a door off the chair and now he's looking a bit stiff. Plonker. Nobody else can see it but I used to have horses and I can spot the lameness.

Apparently dogs can have arnica tablets so I'll give him some. It's only there at a trot, and he's charging round like a loon so it can't be that painful and makes me thinks is muscle?

Aria20 · 17/10/2021 19:41

@GuyFawkesDay I didn't know dogs can have arnicare tablets very handy to know!

@RiskyCookie ah cutie how long have you had pup for?
