Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

I had to do a comparison pic after seeing your pup @BaconAndAvocado - 8 weeks both seems like a lifetime ago and just the other day and I can't believe Ada was that small just 2 months ago

Thanks GuyFawkesDay, I'll maybe wait until her second vaccination next week, then introduce her to my best friend's dog, who is older, sensible and more than happy to put puppies in their place x

Equimum · 09/09/2021 09:20

Thanks BaconAndAvocado. I am obviously completely bias, but she is adorable. I am completely in awe of how well toilet trained your pup is already. What is he?

BaconAndAvocado · 09/09/2021 09:55

Equimum I'm not counting my laurels, it may not last!

He's a Labrador abs will be 10 weeks on Sunday.

BaconAndAvocado · 09/09/2021 09:57

Holy macaroni, is my boy really going to be that big in 2 months time???

We're gonna need a bigger crate.

Your pup is very gorgeous and I love the duck toy!

tizwozliz · 09/09/2021 10:01

You might get lucky @BaconAndAvocado - our lab pup only ever did two wees inside. But definitely enjoy it whilst it's lasts, rather than thinking it can't last. I wish I'd taken a bit more enjoyment from the positives rather than worrying it's not going to last. Should have relaxed a bit more those first few weeks, easy to say now of course.

tizwozliz · 09/09/2021 10:04

Chances are he'll be even bigger, Ada is female, from working lines and on the smaller side. We had our friends 5 month old lab round when Ada was 9 weeks and he was already 20+kg Shock

LadyCatStark · 09/09/2021 10:52

@BaconAndAvocado I wouldn’t worry about it not lasting, I’m sure labs are born half trained! We had no trouble at all toilet training Billy, which was a relief. Wait til he’s 5 months and this big (or bigger as Billy is also on the small side with small, working lab parents)!

@Equimum so gorgeous! We had our friend’s 8 year old dog round a few times to play with our puppy and they got on great, so I’m pleased that his first meeting with another dog has been positive. The dog in question loves puppies though and is very gentle with them, whilst being energetic enough to play. He’s met another couple of the neighbour’s dogs too but that’s been outside and I’ve had to carry him as lots of dogs walk our street and I was paranoid about putting him in the floor just in case! He seems to like other dogs so far and is very submissive with friend’s dog. Not sure if this is good or bad though.

😳😳😳
Is that his own huge armchair?!

567and · 09/09/2021 11:33

Also, after the heat yesterday I’ve been busy with frozen treats and cold carrots! He LOVES the carrots and it kept him quiet for about half an hour! No tummy issues so far from to either.

BaconAndAvocado · 09/09/2021 11:35

Regarding working/show, our breeder said Newboy is neither but when he gave us the documents with his grandparents, great-grandparents and going back even further, it seems that some of them were Crufts champions !!

No idea what that means really apart from meaning he's not a working dog?

BaconAndAvocado · 09/09/2021 11:36

567and the more I look at that armchair the more I want one for Future Newboy 😂

LadyCatStark · 09/09/2021 11:48

@BaconAndAvocado yes it actually is 😂 he’s not allowed on the sofas in the living room as they’re new but this is our ‘old’ one that lives in the dining room and is now Billy’s spot when I’m WFH. It even swivels so sometimes I give him a ride 😂.

“Working” types tend to be a bit smaller, skinnier and have more streamlined faces whiles “show” types as chunkier and have softer looking faces.

Returnoftheowl · 09/09/2021 13:32

Does anyone use a pet camera for keeping an eye on them if you pop out?

I'm thinking of getting a Blink Mini (initially considered a Furbo, but at £189 I thought I'd see if there was anything else on the market). Do anyone have any recommendations?

TerrierOrTerror · 09/09/2021 13:56

@returnoftheowl we have a Nooie camera. Good price, excellent video quality, decent night vision and comes with an SD card. The app also works well too.

BaconAndAvocado · 09/09/2021 14:13

Thanks for that info LadyCatStark

Rewind on my smugness re house training......
I went upstairs for a (very) quick shower and came down to find a small puddle in the kitchen 😔
Might have been a protest wee!

Does the Nooie camera include audio? I mainly want to check he's not barking when we leave!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 09/09/2021 14:48

@tizwozliz where did you find online gundog training please

2nd vaccine today hoorah He's just shy of 14 weeks and weight was 13.6kg

I have Imou camera £24 no SD card. App and you have movement, audible alerts and can listen in

Pic of my working companion today.

Great! You can get out and about now!
Another 3 weeks to go here, I'm stir crazy already!!

Aria20 · 09/09/2021 17:30

@Returnoftheowl I got a cheap little elf camera on Amazon £20 works perfectly has audio and the app was easy to set up and alerts me if there's movement or noise.

tizwozliz · 09/09/2021 17:41

@Returnoftheowl This is the camera we've got. Not yet tested the motion detection. I was looking at a blink mini but OH did some research and thought we should try this one (can't quite remember the reasoning)

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse

This is the online course we're doing, but the trainer is reasonably local to us so we're hoping to continue with an in person course once we've completed the online one and we might pay for a one to one just to check we're at the right level before that.

Thanks @tizwozliz

I'm seething today. DD is an apprenticeship student...currently earning a wage for studying but level of study is so minimal she can do it in an hour a day. No practical arranged yet. So she's in and out the house chatting asking questions...general distraction when I'm trying to reconcile 3 difficult spreadsheets.

DH semi retired...today he took car to the garage and has sat on sofa with his tablet.

I work 40 hours a week. Neither of them thought filling up loo roll cupboard when they used last one was their job...nor was emptying pedal bin or recycling ...and me asking them to not disturb me repeatedly whilst I'm working is unreasonable and rude. According to DH he can't do anything because he's had to look after the puppy. I've let puppy in and out, played with rope and puppy has slept. I used to have an office upstairs but am currently in open plan living area so I can keep an eye on pup. He didn't want me to move upstairs again because pup would know we had an upstairs.... There is an air of "you wanted this puppy" when I'm asking them to help because I need to physically leave the house to work. I'm so cheesed off. I'm going to move back upstairs to be able to concentrate and will take pup with me and just have to do up and down stairs to allow him into the garden or use camera

Rant over

TerrierOrTerror · 09/09/2021 18:29

@returnoftheowl it does have audio, including notifications to phone (motion and audio separately).

Motion detection is very sensitive, you can adjust sensitivity but even then I get notifications when the house is empty - worked out it triggers from flies or even the light changing in the evenings. Audio detection is less sensitive (i.e at its highest it picks up me moving around upstairs, but at its lowest it will just pick up the room).

How do you all manage visitor to your home at the moment? Opalpup goes absolutely berserk. Had visitors pop in this afternoon when she was already in a demon mood. She belts around, jumps up, crashes into them etc etc.
Her claws are sharp and it bloody hurts having her scrabbling at your legs. How do you manage that situation? Shut her away? She'll be barking and crying. And I worry that won't be managing the situation, but sort of delaying it instead? Interested in your thoughts
