Omg I never start ongoing threads like this!
Back to school for my lot tomorrow. Taken pup for an evening walk tonight, desperately trying to tire him out! He's struggled to nap today as felt too hot.

Checking in! Not a bad day today until Mac pup started nipping DD before bed and made her cry. They are best buds and he’s normally so good with her 😢

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/09/2021 21:14

AwesomePup has just hit dd2 in the eye with his waggy tail. Poor DD was crying, poor pup was shouted at (DH wasn't entirely "positive methods" tonight). DD now eating ice cream and pup is chewing his wood chew in his pen where he's been exiled.

GuyFawkesDay · 05/09/2021 21:26

FawkesPup has been an arsehole tonight but is now asleep. Leed on floor, bitten people, eaten my shoelaces....

DD back at school tomorrow but DS isn't so he can pup watch what DH takes her to school. I will do the school run tomorrow, it's 5 minutes walk at my pace so hopefully under 15 at puppy pace. I suspect I'll end up carrying him some of the way.

It's a bloody good job he's cute.

Thanks @cheeseisthebest for the new thread

Those of you who have crate issues have they originally taken to the crate easily/been very quick to be left? Or have you had to work through the crate training stages.

I can't keep track of names but ? @pompomandpeach my pup isn't eating recommended amount but is thriving

Sleep....13 weeks and still getting up at 5-6am for a toilet event.... I'm just glad it's not twice a night

cheeseisthebest · 05/09/2021 21:45

My pup did take to crate easily but now doesn't like it much! I never went through the stages. Am now so tired I don't know what to do.

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse We did crate training at night immediately in the bedroom which he took too (albeit probably sheer exhaustion). After 4 weeks, after feeding and treating in the crate, he finally started napping in the crate during the day and we transitioned the crate downstairs no trouble (couldn't commit to carrying a lab pup up the stairs). P.S. week 17 and we still doing a 6am wee >sigh<

Good luck to those prepping for a new school term! I am fortunate in terms of the only packed lunch I am doing at the moment is for MorningPup's 2x a week daycare.

For those who gave kind words RE poo-gate. He is finally having solid proper dog poos. Grin Thank you for keeping me sane in my moment of despair! I am now re-starting for the second time the transition to butterbox from chicken and rice....

All the biting stories give me flashbacks to filling out the daycare form which asked if he had ever bitten anyone. I wrote he's a puppy and hoped they knew what I meant Confused

MorningInspiration · 05/09/2021 22:07

Didn't write that too clearly sorry @MakeMeCleanTheHouse
*crate training at night = no trouble through a very tired puppy.
Crate training during the day = took 4 weeks.

opalescent · 05/09/2021 22:09

Signing in, thank you @cheeseisthebest.

I'm also very frustrated with crate training. As mentioned previously, I really want to use our downstairs crate for nap times and down time, as Opalpup I'm really struggles to rest during the day. She's always trying to find the right place to nap, and jumps to attention every time I move.

I feel like I've done loads of positive crate work, and am taking it sooo slowly, but I just can't see her ever being happy to be shut in while awake.

The dog training group suggest that a puppy should never ever experience any distress during crate training. I can see the logic, but I'm losing faith. Wish I had the cash to pay a decent trainer to visit me at home and show me what to do!!!

cheeseisthebest · 05/09/2021 22:10

He won't go in the crate at all, we want to go to bed. We've not had this at all since we've had him! Sad

OP posts:
cheeseisthebest · 05/09/2021 22:12

Same here with naps, he moves around constantly and jumps awake. Not having good quality naps. He did use to nap in there though!
Maybe cooling mat I've ordered might help!

OP posts:
cheeseisthebest · 05/09/2021 22:13

I actually feel quite trapped downstairs a lot of the time cos he barks if I go upstairs.

OP posts:
opalescent · 05/09/2021 22:15

@cheeseisthebest same, and I find the kids bedtime so stressful, as I need to be upstairs with them for over an hour start to finish, and a barking puppy is not conducive to sleep 😂

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/09/2021 22:19

We've just had a huge vomit event here. Not sure what caused it but there was food in there that we don't remember ever giving him (apple, when it's weeks since we gave him apple). We think he might have eaten something out at the park that I didn't notice (possibly a rotten apple?). He seems ok in himself and was visibly planning on eating the pile of sick until I removed him from the room 🤮🤮🤮

cheeseisthebest · 05/09/2021 22:21

Oh god that sounds so grim.

OP posts:
MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 05/09/2021 22:28

This is all a bit worrying as I'd assumed this wouldn't go backwards.

The only comfort I can offer is I was poised to give up on the crate about 2-3 weeks ago and persisted and he's in there OK now.

MeredithMae · 05/09/2021 22:29

Oh @MsAwesomeDragon gross! Poor you! It’s so hard keeping an eye on them in the park.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 05/09/2021 22:30

@MsAwesomeDragon mine had a mega vomit event and I couldn't believe what came up.
