Just interested!
We've had our shih tzu three weeks now. I love the fact he's chilled out, doesn't yap, chew or moult. He loves to be with people.
But apart from the moulting that might just be his personality!
What breed do you have any why?

Working type Labrador. Grew up with terriers as family dogs but extended family had Labs and I just loved the way they were so friendly and trainable. Energetic enough to walk all day on the fells, affectionate enough to curl up next to you on the sofa in the evening.
Their ears smell like biscuits and their eyes are just Loyalty.

VetInAVat · 24/08/2021 19:23

Shih tzu, because they needed a home. But also very happy to say they are lazy, don't moult, generally quiet, laid back easy mutts. They just like to sit on my lap.

Tara336 · 24/08/2021 19:26

Cavalier/Bichon I did a lot of research before choosing him and he’s great, healthy, happy little guy, loves his walks, pretty chilled out when we are home and very loving, also extremely sweet tempered. He’s a real mummy’s boy.

nancybotwinbloom · 24/08/2021 19:26

I wanted a small dog as I can't really stomach massive dog poos.

He's wonderful and he just fits in so well with us. He's a mongrel, cross between a chihuahua and a Jack Russell.

I just wanted a small dog. We saw his pics and we loved him.

Hecksonaplane · 24/08/2021 19:26

She's a foster fail! She's a German wire haired pointer, I did have a wire haired previously so that's how the rescue got in touch requesting us to foster her.
Fabulous breed although I gather I'm.lucky as mine have been the exception rather than the rule, both been very relaxed and chill rather than loopy which they can be known for.

Hecksonaplane · 24/08/2021 19:27

Oh I should add that my previous dog was about to be put in a rescue as the family were emigrating and not taking her so we kind of fell upon the breed really!

Hellocatshome · 24/08/2021 19:29

I have a mongrel. Kind of wanted a mongrel truth be told as they are generally healthy and, as long as there is quite a lot of different breeds in there, pretty level headed. We wanted a rescue, he is a Romanian rescue which we didn't specifically set out for but he is perfect for us.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2021 19:29

Standard smooth haired dachshund, our second. Because DH had one as a boy because the lady over the road bred them, and they're addictive. Grin

They're also rather clean as dogs go, and adaptable - never wanted to walk in foul weather, but perfectly capable of climbing mountains (just a little help at eg the top of Pen y Ghent).

danadas · 24/08/2021 19:33

We have a Lab x Springer mongrel. We wanted a gundog type as they fit in with our lifestyle and what we like in a dog and he is a dude.

thenewduchessofhastings · 24/08/2021 19:41

@Tara336

You have a cavachon 😉

Mine is a cavachon X JRT mongrel;he's a funny looking little thing.

Quickchangeartiste · 24/08/2021 19:44

What @Saucery said. 2 gorgeous labs
. I also love the fact that, although they didn’t grow up around young children, they are sweet and gentle with all they meet. Likewise with tottery elderly relatives.

thistimelastweek · 24/08/2021 19:46

I really like small terriers. I have a small terrier. She's a Norfolk so they don't come much smaller.

YanTanTethera123 · 24/08/2021 19:46

Romanian rescue, perfect for me and an absolute delight! Big enough to walk miles, laid back and friendly. Perfect 😍

Floralnomad · 24/08/2021 19:46

I have a patterdale x , and we’ve got him because on the day we visited Battersea they only had 2 puppies , him and a staffy and I didn’t want a staffy . He’s brilliant .

Tara336 · 24/08/2021 19:47

@thenewduchessofhastings I do but it’s a bloody hanging offence on MN to have a name for your crossbreed so I didn’t dare say Cavachon 😂

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 24/08/2021 19:48

Working type lab

Friendly with people and other dogs
Loving with us
Biddable
Healthy (working types are generally much healthier than their show type cousins)
Active outdoors but calm indoors
Bags of personality
Handsome

iusedtohavechickens · 24/08/2021 19:52

Border collie. Needed a dog that would be easy to train and food with children and other animals. Our dog is brilliant snd because we got him as a puppy he is used to a busy household. (But thinks he's a bloody cat and the great lump tried to sit on the windowsill/🤦‍♀️)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/08/2021 19:54

We are first time dog owners and have a cross breed - part American Spaniel, part Miniature Poodle. We got him partly because of size - didn't want something too big or too small - and partly because their temperament is supposed to be easier than a pure cocker spaniel (was tempted but decided to start with a calmer version!). However what swung it for us was that, during lockdown last year, lots of dodgy breeders were out there whereas the breeder we bought from lives 10 miles from us and let us visit every week until we brought him.home.

Anystarinthesky · 24/08/2021 19:55

We have a Labrador.

My DP had one before and they have always been my favourite breed of dog.

He is so good natured and lovable.

SlateCoaster · 24/08/2021 19:56

Whippet cross with a Staffy Bull Terrier.

She's a rescue from an abusive previous owner.

Skade · 24/08/2021 19:56

A 14 year old mastiff/staffy rescue, just because I'm a sucker for staffies Grin

A 4 year old french bulldog because I'm an idiot

A 9 week old french bulldog because again, I'm an idiot, but hopelessly in love with the breed...

MrsRobbieHart · 24/08/2021 19:59

I have a lurcher. She’s a rescue. I actually wanted a greyhound but I saw her on the rescue page and just fell in love. She still runs reeaally fast. My favourite thing is just watching her run through long grass. That’s her happy place.

Dora26 · 24/08/2021 19:59

4th springer spaniel! Grew up with labs and never thought I’d change but my last 4 dogs have been fabulous springers - sweet nature, fantastic with kids, energetic but get that house is chill place. Easy to train as they are eager to please and very intelligent

GrouchyKiwi · 24/08/2021 20:01

We have a Newfoundland because I love them. They're big, sweet, calm (but not at all through puppyhood and adolescence...) darling teddy bears, with similar recall. Grin

I first fell in love with them after the dog in Must Love Dogs (Mother Teresa the Newfie), and then researched them for years. Our girl is 3 years old and turning into the Best Girl.

Flaunch · 24/08/2021 20:01

I’ve got a whippet x bedlington terrier. I got him because every whippet I’ve ever met has been lovely and I like the look of the scruffy part the beddy brings plus they are a bit more robust than a straight whippet. He’s also a lot smaller than most lurchers.

He’s perfect 😍 we’re all completely smitten.
