TBF he’s a typical lab puppy

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/08/2021 08:52

Great news about ds and nord puppy.
Not great news about cheeky food stealer

MightyMeerkat · 20/08/2021 09:00

@Heretherenow He's gorgeous!

Good news about DS and pup @Nordstrom

Mighty pup slept from 10.30pm to 5.30pm hurrah! Although I'm paying for it because she's been a nightmare for the last 3 hours; biting, weeing on the carpet, clawing and hanging off my curtains 🤬 Only 9am and I'm worn out

cheeseisthebest · 20/08/2021 10:01

Finally settled mine down for a nap! Need to work on leaving him alone for a few minutes as he's not keen!

Nordstrom · 20/08/2021 10:14

Aww thanks everyone. @Spudlet I hope it's going in the right direction with spudpup and your ds?

Well I've gone and jinxed myself...we are currently on the way to the vets due to Nordpup stealing muesli!!

Elmrosie · 20/08/2021 10:26

@Aria20 oh dear, shouldn't laugh at that.

Elmpup has decided she doesn't like fish. She wouldn't even try the Butternut dish with it in and spits out dried sprats.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/08/2021 10:55

Oh dear, I hope Nordpup is ok!

It's a tossup between fish and chicken here for absolute favourite treats. Plain roast chicken I'm using because it's not too taxing on his tummy but he loves a bit of salmon flaked onto his dinner. And those Lily's kitchen salmon training treats.

I've forgiven the 5 get ups last night as he's learned to give a paw this morning and it's just too cute.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/08/2021 10:56

I'm yet to try sprats. I'm not sure I'm ready for that level of fish fart

tizwozliz · 20/08/2021 11:01

Dried sprats don't make Ada too stinky as long as I don't over do it. Tbh the level of peace I get from hiding a couple of sprats in the garden is worth it even if it makes her a bit stinky.

cheeseisthebest · 20/08/2021 11:03

I've still not used treats. Might be good to stop nipping!

MightyMeerkat · 20/08/2021 11:08

The Lily's kitchen salmon treats are a hit here too

Is anyone else having a problem with slugs and snails? Pup seems to be able to find them anywhere and is determined to lick them or chew down on them 🤢

Elmrosie · 20/08/2021 11:10

Elmpup likes to sniff them, but she spits them out. They're great in a snuffle toy to attract attention!
Spudlet · 20/08/2021 11:10

Oh Nordpup! Hope he’s ok @Nordstrom. Silly puppy!

DS and Spudpup were making gradual progress but Spudpup’s little indiscretion with the stone has set us back as we need everyone to stay very calm, and that’s a problem with DS. But I think we’ll get there in time. DS really likes the idea of Spudpup but he’s very clearly still processing the loss of Spuddog - he tells everyone he meets that Spuddog died and then we got our new dog, Spudpup. So it’s obviously on his mind. I think the fearful reaction is at least in part an expression of his grief, bless him.

Spudpup and I had the nicest cuddle on the kitchen floor this morning - some gentle(ish) playful mouthing, and then he fell asleep on me. It’s something Spuddog used to do - he’d curl up in the back of my legs and fall asleep on the sofa with me. So having that time with Spudpup felt like a little glimpse into a future of having that closeness again. It was wonderful, even if my bum went numb on the kitchen floor Grin

I made the mistake of taking DS to the pet shop with me today and we have now purchased our first Christmas present… for Billy 😂. It’s quite lovely though as some of the magic has gone for DS now he’s 12 but this year he’s already excited for recreating his young childhood Christmases for the dog 🥰.

Billy is now enjoying the pigs ear that he chose and it bloody stinks!

YanTanTethera123 · 20/08/2021 12:06

@Aria20 my ‘dear’ pup stole a cooked chicken off the work surface yesterday (DH got it out to make a sandwich but wandered off and left it) To say I wasn’t amused was an understatement.
She’s 7 months old now but I’ve only had her 8 weeks. She’s doing very well all things considered, but having a DH who’s definitely not on board (unless someone’s patting her when of course he’s the proud parent 🤬) is definitely tough.
I do have my doubts sometimes but she’s so loving I can almost forgive her everything!

Nordstrom · 20/08/2021 12:28

Aww lovely cuddles do make it all worth it eh @Spudlet you sound very patient and insightful about this adjustment for your ds.

Nordpup is home feeling very sorry for herself after a barferama at the vets. Never a dull moment!

GuyFawkesDay · 20/08/2021 12:32

Oh dear! FawkesPup is now the proud owner of a dinosaur costume from Matalan for Halloween 🤣

Wolfcub · 20/08/2021 12:36

Poor Nordpup, really pleased to hear about the developing relationship with ds though

Wolfpup has had an exciting play, and exciting walk, some recall attaining and a run around like a loon (aka spaniel) on a longline. He is knackered. He is in his playpen. He's had something disgusting and dried from an unidentifiable animal to chew. And every bloody time I twitch he sits bolt upright so he's not sleeping

sparkypupp · 20/08/2021 12:43

Mind if I join you?

Sparkypup is 10 weeks old, utterly furious about any attempt to crate, plus the usual tiny teeth attacks.

Can anyone share some crate training methods? Or your rough routine/schedule for the day? I work from home so admittedly avoid crating her sometimes just so I don't have the constant background noise but I know this isn't helpful long term. Thanks! Smile

Heads off to Matalan…
Nordstrom · 20/08/2021 12:56

Ha I've never been organised enough to sort dc Halloween costumes in advance, let alone doggy ones!

Nordstrom · 20/08/2021 12:57

We of course expect pics @GuyFawkesDay

GuyFawkesDay · 20/08/2021 13:00

Oh I will spam you!!!

Crate we have struggled with. I think the snuggle puppy and donut bed have helped as he settled with them quickly. So he does sleep in the crate, door shut in our room.

During the day it's in the lounge (it's plastic, a ferplast one) and it's left open for naps. He does go in for snoozes and if he's scared. He hates the hoover and hides in his bed, bless him.

familychallenge · 20/08/2021 13:18

How lovely to see some old faces and all the new pups! I almost feel I shouldn't be on a puppy thread any more as challenge pup is nearly one now (already have his birthday treats planned in some detail Grin).

In so many ways he is lovely - as many say it does get a lot easier, and as they get older and a bit more independent but still want cuddles it's very endearing! I didn't understand quite how much getting a dog (much less a puppy) would put a bomb under my life! I wouldn't be without him, even though he can still be a woofy chewy terror with no recall when he wants to be (adolescent dogs are little shits on occasion!). Doggy daycare is a godsend, and having a network of dog friendly places and people is a big help.

But I'm taking him off on holiday this week so see the sea for the first time and I can't wait! He is at his best just pure joy and pure love- running his little heart out for the hell of it and then curling up as close as he can get to sleep.

@GuyFawkesDay is the snuggle puppy chewable? (Aka will it last against a bitey german shepherd?)
