I'm only taking him to be groomed because he can't see and I don't want to cut the hair around his eyes myself as I will mess it up! Grin

tizwozliz · 25/08/2021 21:58

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse - The wheelchair is inspired, we met a spaniel in a pram the other day.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/08/2021 22:17

I pushed FawkesPup round the local Dobbies in a shopping trolley like lord muck 😂 I love seeing pups in transport. Next door they have a really old terrier who goes out in a pram

Zonko pup here too

@Spudlet pup has just vomited +++ lots of food (probably the whole days allowance) and now just watery vomit. Approx 7 vomits and now sleeping. I'm not aware of him eating anything but it's entirely possible. What symptoms did spudpup have and when should I call a vet?

Spudlet · 25/08/2021 22:38

Spudpup wasn’t keen on eating or drinking, so I gave him ice cubes which he crunched up - but even they wouldn’t stay down. And his nose was getting dry, so I was worried about dehydration.

I think most vets would say that if they’re drinking it’s not such a worry, but with young pups I’d generally err on the side of caution and give the vet a call for some advice over the phone. They will most likely tell you to keep an eye on him overnight and see how he is in the morning.

Poor puppy! Such a worry when they aren’t right Sad

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 25/08/2021 22:48

He is fast asleep (normal at this time of night) so I know I'll not be able to get him to drink. Will try later. He looks very comfortable and has just rolled on his back ...looks v comfortable. DH has just reminded me the kibble swells up so probably looks a lot but is just a couple of meals.

Gawd such a worry. I have a really busy work day tomorrow. DH away and I'm juggling lots anyway. Last thing I need is poorly pup.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 25/08/2021 22:51

He's just woken and drunk a fair bit. We will see if it stays down. If it doesn't I will call the vet

cheeseisthebest · 25/08/2021 22:58

Hope he's better soon x

opalescent · 26/08/2021 05:53

First 5.40 start in a few days 😴 hope these start to stretch out again eventually!

Those of you who have older dogs- do they just sleep until you get up now? When did they start to do that?

opalescent · 26/08/2021 06:03

Also- I have a stupid question- for those of you whose pups sleep downstairs- how do you know when they need to go out for a wee in the night?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 26/08/2021 06:14

Early start here. He seems absolutely fine, drank well in the night, peed and being a chewy pia right now. Rice boiling....

@opalescent my older dogs would sleep in until 9!

No idea re wee in the night as I've never had a pup who I've kept downstairs. But am keen to know. I'm assuming excellent house training means they wake you with whining and a baby listener? Or just they last?

tizwozliz · 26/08/2021 06:28

Ada whines if she needs the toilet. She does still whine occasionally if she wants a bit of company but these are getting less frequent. No baby listener, but she's in the hallway under the stairs and we keep the bedroom door open so we can hear her without her being loud. 5.5 - 6 hours appears to be her limit for now, so last night it was wees before midnight, awake at 5.45 for toilet and she's now back asleep. I found it easier with the 3 am wake ups, I struggle to get back to sleep at 5.45.

Phillpot12 · 26/08/2021 06:39

Our pup is almost 5 months, in a crate, and just whines when she is ready to get up in the morning. She ignores my husband who leaves for work at 6.15ish and then woofs some time after 7.
Our house is small and doors open so we can her easily.

567and · 26/08/2021 07:52

Loving the pics of the gorgeous pups! 😍

We have our puppy in a crate downstairs and use the Alexa as a monitor. He just whines if he wants a wee but as long as I take him out around 10:30/11pm he has been lasting the night and then waking around 6am when he goes straight outside for a wee. He woke up full of beans this morning but has taken himself back to bed in his crate.

Kids all gone back to school today so I’m on my own with him. House is very quiet.

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse glad he is feeling better this morning. Am dreading mine getting poorly.

Elmrosie · 26/08/2021 08:54

@567and - how do you get Alexa to monitor your pup? This sounds brilliant.

LadyCatStark · 26/08/2021 09:10

@opalescent Billy is 5 months and yes he just sleeps til we (well I) get up. He can continue to sleep if DH gets up early for work but if I do much as move a muscle, he knows I’m up! He could get up at 7 (reluctantly) or last weekend he slept in til gone 10am 😵. He started sleeping later and later from 11 weeks when he could go out for walks. He’s always slept downstairs and he’s never needed the toilet in the night.

GuyFawkesDay · 26/08/2021 09:23

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse glad pup is feeling better!

We are still on 3am wakeup for a pee but then he does sleep til 6am or so. Not a chance of later. Can't wait for when that happens!!!!

Also want to know how to get Alexa to be a baby monitor!!

3isthemagicestnumber · 26/08/2021 09:24

Oh no poor Spudpup - glad to hear all okay. We have all sorts of bits and bobs in our garden and 'leave' works for pretty much everything but pebbles!

We're on day 5 of crate rest, its been up and down, but the ideas you have all provided have been so helpful - we're hand feeding with training/konging/snuffle matting most of her kibble. I have in a moment of despair ordered a doggy pushchair so we can at least get out of the house for both of our sanity and so I can still walk our older dog when my husband is back at work next week.

Her leg is healing really well - we had a check up at the vets on Tuesday just to check healing/temperature and have another one next Tuesday for more of the same. They'll then x-ray after a few more weeks to check all is okay.

Thanks everyone for your advice on how to keep her entertained - its made a real difference and we feel much more comfortable about the situation now.

Hope you all have a good day with your pups!

opalescent · 26/08/2021 10:00

@GuyFawkesDay were generally on a similar timetable, but yes- later starts will be lovely!

grannycake · 26/08/2021 10:23

@opalescent Grannypup is 14 months and sleeps downstairs (no longer in crate). She will whine if she needs to go out at night. Happens about once a month

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/08/2021 10:32

PoirotPup sleeps downstairs but doesn’t need to go out in the night. Sometimes he’ll do a little whine to wake us about 6.30 but more often he’ll just wait. He has a bladder of steel though and has from the start!

tizwozliz · 26/08/2021 11:19

As soon as we borrow another stairgate from a friend we're going to try leaving the crate door open overnight to see if that makes any difference. She's never had an accident in the crate and has only ever had 2 wees inside in the first few days she was home so I'm hoping she'll know to still wake us up and not just toilet on the floor. She'll only have access to hard flooring so not too much of a risk.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 26/08/2021 12:29

Makemepup manic today. I've picked up flea treatment and given him rice which he trod in the floor, picked up, snuffled and blew everywhere....

Struggling to work and here on my own. Older dog also being pia. I'm exhausted and wondering why I thought this was a good idea

Spudlet · 26/08/2021 13:05

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse Glad MakeMePup is feeling better! They do like to worry us, don’t they? @3isthemagicestnumber Bless her, hope she carries on healing well and you don’t all go too stir-crazy. Is your DH ok too, did you mention that he’d dislocated his shoulder? What a week you’ve had 😖

Spudpup had to have another stone confiscated in the garden but fortunately he handed it over 🙄 We have been for a little walk around the woods, although he had his pyjamas on and stayed on the lead, and a coffee. Spudpup had a bonio and enjoyed people watching, once he’d decided that barking was a bit of a pointless exercise and everyone ignored him. He is just fighting the urge to settle down for a snooze now.

567and · 26/08/2021 14:15

@Elmrosie @GuyFawkesDay we have one Alexa in the front room and one in our bedroom, so we ‘drop in’ on the one downstairs, turn the volume right down on it and then it’s on a constant call and we can hear him but he can’t hear us! It has timed out once but not sure if that was an internet issue or something with the Alexa. Has worked ok the other nights though.
