If work, time and money was no longer an issue and you had unlimited funds and all day to devote to a dog, which breed would you pick and is it any different from the breed you have at the moment?

I have a beagle and much to my husbands' disgust, I'd just have an entire pack of beagles Grin

I have a JRT and love him so much. I would have another one in a heartbeat.

Juanbablo · 05/07/2021 09:47

I would also really love a Dachshund.

LostArcher & warmfluffytowels
Thank you. Yes they are. They’re right near, some years at, the very top of the At Risk Native Breeds list. Some years there’s been less than thirty puppies born, compared to thousands of Labradors.
A main reason why I’m not keen on the fashion for these Oodle mixes when so many of our beautiful native breeds risk dying out in this country.

@LostArcher Oh god, why have you posted that?! WHY? Grin

Laburnam · 05/07/2021 14:51

Another toy poodle or 7! So loving, intelligent and definitely runs on Duracell

I love frenchies, pugs and boxers but I'll never spend £££s on such poorly dogs

Sagaris · 05/07/2021 15:15

Beagles! We are on number 2 and 3, they have all been rescued, we love going on group walks. They are well travelled and come with us on holiday twice a year.

@Sagaris your beagles are beautiful!

I am so pleased to see so much beagle love on this thread. When I first wanted a beagle, I looked up some old threads on here and they were all SO negative, haha.

@HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst There's some pups on Collielife available. Reputable breeders....(runs off chuckling)

Lonecatwithkitten · 05/07/2021 18:41

Now I have one, just more standard poodles. Waiting 25 years for this one now I need more.

@LostArcher I am not in the UK - THANK GOODNESS.
We got 2 cats last autumn, so I don't think my DH would be too impressed if I suggested getting another dog just yet (we have a lovely little border terrier cross, did also have a PRT who sadly had to be PTS a couple of years ago).
But my heart aches for a collie.

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 05/07/2021 19:13

You know what, I will be 50 next year and I think i know what I'm going to ask for as a present.....

Shannith · 05/07/2021 19:21

Beddinton/staffy rough coated brindle lurcher.

Met one yesterday and literally fell in love.

But... I have 2 cats and it was most certainly the product of a backyard breeder so never going to happen.

I'd have dozen ex racing greyhounds if were not for the cats.

And a working cocker. Which I might get at some point

FindingMeno · 05/07/2021 19:24

German Shepherd.
I adore them.

Blueskytoday06 · 05/07/2021 19:26

Daschund ♥️

pazwaz70 · 05/07/2021 19:28

Border Terriers,it's the only breed I've ever had.

AquaTorfana · 05/07/2021 19:52

Newfoundland. I just wish I had the space!

decafforme · 05/07/2021 19:59

Golden retriever, Newfoundland, maybe a St. Bernard also... with a big house!!

LostArcher · 06/07/2021 19:46

@HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst Do it! If you want any advice, let me know. If you are in Europe, then Collielife website is your friend. There is a rather fun facebook page too - mostly American but still lovely doggos.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/07/2021 20:52

Newfoundland probably after seeing the photos here! Love the big dogs. I currently have a St Bernard who is fantastic, but enjoy reading about the lovely RRs on here. Have also met a rottweiler recently who is a big softy and would consider one in future once the children are all grown up.

@Moreginneeded

Flat Coated Retriever. Every time… I have had dogs all my life but this is my first FCR, and I can’t imagine ever being without one now. The sweetest, silliest, most loving dogs in the world. I heard them referred to as ‘the Peter Pan of the dog world’ once which has been absolutely true with mine - she’s 3 and is still as energetic and excitable as when she was 6 months old!
❤️❤️❤️ I've had seven flatcoats. Have been without one now for 5 yrs - I definitely have a flatcoat shaped hole in my life and will get another. I had plans for another a few years ago but ended up taking in a Mini Schnauzer after a friend died, I decided three dogs is enough ATM.

Flatcoats are absolutely sweet, silly and a bundle of love and energy. Not for everyone though - the lack of an "off switch" can be too much for many people to handle.

My heart leaps when I see one - there is one locally who is walked near me and I always stop for a ritual ear wash. For the uninitiated, FCs greet each other with a very continential kiss (and ear wash) on each side of the face - hilarious watching them trying to do it to a German Shepherd 🤣
