If work, time and money was no longer an issue and you had unlimited funds and all day to devote to a dog, which breed would you pick and is it any different from the breed you have at the moment?

I have a beagle and much to my husbands' disgust, I'd just have an entire pack of beagles Grin

Irish Setter - they are so beautiful
Keeshond - loyal and protective
two Shih Tzu - for cuddling
four or five Pomeranians - the coloring is gorgeous and they are such clowns

Imonaplane · 03/07/2021 20:27

German Shorthaired Pointers are my favourite breed and I am lucky enough to have 3!

LittleMissSneezy · 03/07/2021 21:15

Spaniels, working cockers preferably

They are all nuts I think or at least partially nuts but I can't imagine life without one in there

Our working cocker trainer has 6 Grin and it doesn't seem too many

Hm2020 · 03/07/2021 21:48

Papillon, Japanese spitz, shiba inu or Italian greyhound I spend hours reading about them

FlemishHorse · 03/07/2021 21:55

A Basenji - intelligent, athletic, feisty and beautiful. If I ever move on from rescue sighthounds!

A Old English sheepdog!

DoneAdulting · 03/07/2021 22:18

I grew up with Newfies and my parents still have them. We don't have the space otherwise I'd have my own. Look at him!

I also love the Newfoundlands! They look lush. I think if it wasn't for my breed of choice it's what I'd have.

Growing up I had a cocker spaniel and my Mum worked with guide dogs, we had many, many Labrador x golden retrievers and I loved them very very much and I always thought it would be my breed of choice.

Until I met my boy. My boy was an Alaskan Malamute we rescued, I'd always swore I wouldn't have a husky although I think they're beautiful but they seem like hard work! I considered Alaskan Malamutes to be very much the same, and then I met him. He was my whole world and I loved him so intensely. This was despite the fact he was a complete and utter arsehole, never really listened (well, he did the third time you asked!), raided bins whenever the opportunity arose and used to hide food in my laundry or take all the clean stuff and make a bed from it. He was so lazy and cuddly but fiercely independent.

He died in January, and I miss him so much everyday. We met many other Alaskan Malamutes and they all had a similar temperament, and we made the decision shortly after we lost him that we'd have another and this time a puppy. That lad joins us at the end of the month and I am so excited I can hardly sleep! If money was no object, I think I'd have a whole pack of them, around 6 I think. Sadly, money is an object, but the plan is most definitely 2. I don't think I'll ever own another breed.

Weimaraner 😍😍😍

DeathByWalkies · 03/07/2021 22:50

I fantasise about having a papillon - I had one when I was growing up and in my eyes he was perfect.

I have, however, become rather attached to my accidentally acquired twatty terrier cross. In the future I could see me planning to get a papillon and actually ending up taking a scruffy terrier with a laundry list of behaviour problems again.

It's a good job I like a challenge and am philosophical about being bitten.

Blue4YOU · 03/07/2021 22:50

Beagle beagle beagle
With maybe a Burmese Mountain Dog as well

Strawberryshitfest · 04/07/2021 00:35

Too many! Japanese spitz, golden retriever, leonberger, border terrier, border collie, duck rolling retriever, Samoyed, Swedish vallhund, Jack Russell x pug, sheltie, greyhound or whippet, papillon, more rescue mongrels, Swiss shepherd, cavapoo.

Gingerninja4 · 04/07/2021 06:09

Wolfhound one I used see as a child has stuck with me

But at other scale a chihuahua there are couple that walk in local woods they are real characters but not snappy /,yappy and very much treated as normal dog .One has fantastic recall and loves to play with my lab boy after careful introduction

Saying that I keep my lab and would have land with own stream and pond just for him

BiologyMatters · 04/07/2021 07:02

A pure white standard poodle bitch for me! Dreamed of one for years but i don't think i could cope with the size so i will get a toy or mini one.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 04/07/2021 07:10

Smooth Collie - because look at him
Beagle - I had two. They drove me nuts. But would still have another.
Irish Wolfhound - when I have the space

I have a long, long list of beloved breeds, starting with the hunt-point-retrieve breeds who are full-on and high maintenance but wonderful dogs: vizslas, German pointers, all of those.

I just like dogs, but I'd always go for a practical working-line one: I like their drive.

Darklane · 04/07/2021 19:40

Eurasier 😍 I've been researching them for a while and almost ready to make the next step, just need to sort getting on waiting lists as they aren't very common here and only handful of breeders

LostArcher · 04/07/2021 21:09

@HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst Just get a rough collie. They are fab and chilled.

So I'd have two more roughs in tri and blue merle colour or an Australian Sheepdog in the latter colour. A beardie (used to have one - love beardies). I think Airdales are lovely. A Hovwart in black with ginger eyebrows. A red and white setter. Oooooo. All the doggies

@Darklane Your Skye terriers are beautiful. Very rare now.

warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 21:11

Wow @Darklane what gorgeous dogs! Aren't Skye Terriers incredibly rare nowadays?

Great Dane for me. Absolutely adore them. But our house has stairs up to the living room and kitchen so isn’t built for a Dane’s joints. We are hoping a pup will join our family next year and it will be a sprocker if DH gets his way and a standard poodle if I do.

Rockpipit · 04/07/2021 22:32

Bearded Collie

TigerBreath · 04/07/2021 22:36

Scruffy terriers! A border, a Jack Russell and a Norfolk. I just love their character.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 05/07/2021 09:37

I am a lover of rescue dogs, no doubt that mutts are my favourite breed.

However, I covet Dobermans on a regular basis. They’re so majestic and handsome!
