If work, time and money was no longer an issue and you had unlimited funds and all day to devote to a dog, which breed would you pick and is it any different from the breed you have at the moment?

I have a beagle and much to my husbands' disgust, I'd just have an entire pack of beagles Grin

I've always wanted a red setter, think they're such beautiful dogs but in reality I'll stick with my lovely greyhound. Much easier Grin

Blondiney · 03/07/2021 16:00

Mutts, mutts and more mutts!

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 03/07/2021 16:04

Golden Retriever every time

CoffeeAndCaramel · 03/07/2021 16:06

Another Doberman in a heart beat. He was such a gentle soul and bloody gorgeous!

Blondiney · 03/07/2021 16:07

Oooh I have a proper answer too. There's the most stunning looking Doberman who I swoon over whenever we meet on walks. So yeah, a Doberman but only if it's as handsome and friendly as that chap.

elQuintoConyo · 03/07/2021 16:08

Purplecatshopaholic I also have a podenco, mixed with something (golden retriever?). She's a total spoon Grin

I'd love to have an Irish Wolfhound or ten

Leonberger without a doubt.
But live in the Caribbean and wouldn’t be fair on the dog.

potter5 · 03/07/2021 16:21

Definitely would have more Boxers. I only have 2!

EssentialHummus · 03/07/2021 16:27

Several Rottweilers. DH is not a dog person, it’s a hard sell Grin.

When I saw your thread title I thought Beagle straight away. Glad you agree!
We had one through my teenage years and beyond and he was such a character with quite a local fan club.
I know they can be -ahem- single minded but I still feel the love whenever I see one.

Single-minded is definitely one word to describe them Grin

I've never met a more affectionate and entertaining breed though!

No particular breed, I’d just have ‘all of the dogs’. 😬

tabulahrasa · 03/07/2021 17:47

Deerhound.... they’re actually a bit sedate for me really, but, they’re so lovely. Mostly I don’t have one because I don’t have a car big enough, lol.

Smooth collie... I was actually on a waiting list for one, but I was offered a rescue puppy and well, now I have a wee mixed breed rescue...

Rottweiler... I’ve owned one and fostered one, they suit me to a tee tbh, but, mine had health issues, my foster did too and finding a decent breeder seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack and rescue ones that can live with cats are like hens teeth.

Redhound · 03/07/2021 17:52

I always have Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Once you have one you can never go back to normal dogs! They are amazingly intelligent, agile, odour free, expressive, great sense of humour, non-moulting, non-needy and great guards- also so beautiful. Their only downsides are laziness, greed & disobedience! I am on my third over about 33 years. If I couldn't have a RR I would have an English Bull terrier, fox terrier or JRT.

glosbucks · 03/07/2021 17:56

@Redhound couldn't agree more! I have two, I have loved Ridgeback's my entire life and as far as I am concerned they are the perfect breed,

WhiteVixen · 03/07/2021 17:56

I'd love a golden retriever, and/or a Bernese Mountain dog.

worktrip · 03/07/2021 18:51

Medium poodle.

Redhound · 03/07/2021 18:56

glosbucks you have great taste! I acquired my first kind of by accident but we were hooked after her :)

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 03/07/2021 19:01

Rough collie.
We had one when I was a child, and I've had various other wonderful dogs since, but my heart hankers after a collie again and one day I will get one.

Quickchangeartiste · 03/07/2021 19:08

Well I have 2 black labs, so I would add a couple of golden retrievers and probably a couple of border terriers for good measure.
And my magic wand would ensure they stayed with me for ever.

JulesM73 · 03/07/2021 19:12

Golden Retriever all day long. Grew up with them and have my old boy who we’ve had from a puppy and is now nearly 11.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 03/07/2021 19:15

Another one who loves beagles here!

I've never had a dog and won't be getting one any time soon but would love to have a beagle one day

Morred · 03/07/2021 19:17

Saluki (they have such silly ears!) or a schnauzer I think.

AppealingPeel · 03/07/2021 19:21

@Redhound We've had 2 RRs and there were tiny little spiky brown hairs all over the place. I'm surprised to hear you say yours don't moult. One of ours was bad with kids and one was dog aggressive. We've gone with something different this time around but I miss them!

StealthRoast · 03/07/2021 19:24

My ds (18) has wanted a Husky since he was a toddler. We got one last November. He’s now 9 months old and is bloody amazing ( and hairy and greedy and destructive at times ) but we wouldn’t be without him.
This is our boy
