What's your dream breed?

If work, time and money was no longer an issue and you had unlimited funds and all day to devote to a dog, which breed would you pick and is it any different from the breed you have at the moment?

I have a beagle and much to my husbands' disgust, I'd just have an entire pack of beagles Grin

SmileI think Beagle owners are very loyal to the breed and tolerant of Beagle antics.

minsmum · 03/07/2021 15:10

An Irish wolfhound, a Saluki, a Deer hound but I would also keep my Foxhound and get another one as a matching pair

Leonberger · 03/07/2021 15:12

I had always wanted a leonberger but thought they would be too big/hairy. People also tried to put me off about the size and amount of work so I had a variety of other dogs over the years but always wished for a Leo.

I decided to just go for it a few years ago and I really wish I had done it years ago!!! They are amazing dogs and aren’t really any more work than my German shepherd. They certainly need a lot less exercise and training.

The dream now is my very own pack of Leo’s Grin

ohsuzannah · 03/07/2021 15:13

Irish Wolfhound. I've wanted a ne all my life Sad
I've actually got three miniature dachshunds 😂

Derrymum123 · 03/07/2021 15:13

Whippet, Bedlington terrier or Basset hound. Absolutely adorable.

TheVanguardSix · 03/07/2021 15:15

Golden retriever
Labrador
Weimaraner
German shorthaired pointer

Fedinbed · 03/07/2021 15:16

Possibly an Irish wolfhound (or 3 Grin)
But my golden doodle is pretty perfect and if you’d asked me a few years ago then having one of those would have seemed an impossible dream!

Ha, definitely agree with you there.

Mine does a lot of things that I suspect owners of slightly less insane dogs wouldn't tolerate!

101 of a certain breed for me !(Can you tell by my user name by any chance?) I would like to be like the film ,where they end up in a lovely spotted castle with loads of land .Mind you really liked their London Townhouse as well!

magicstar1 · 03/07/2021 15:32

German Shepherds...they’re just the most beautiful dogs around. We were lucky to get one last year and she’s soooo gorgeous.
Here she is going to the beach

Twinkie01 · 03/07/2021 15:33

One that does malt, poo or slobber anywhere!!

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/07/2021 15:36

I have a podenco (Spanish sight hound). I would have lots of podencos! He is my dream dog, and my dream breed.

Unmute · 03/07/2021 15:36

Staffy - which is what I've always had because they are the best dogs (not my opinion, this is a fact), but I'd get a puppy not an adult rescue. I can't at the moment because we live in a third floor flat and house training would be a nightmare.

3beesinmybonnet · 03/07/2021 15:36

I sometimes dream of having half a dozen rescue lurchers in assorted shapes sizes hairiness and personalities. I'd have acres of land for them to run around including our own beach all enclosed by a 6 foot fence. They'd be quite naughty but it wouldn't be bothering anyone else and they'd all learn to use their specially designed doggy toilet.

In reality this will never happen even if I win the lottery since 3beesDog waited a while for his forever family and I suspect he wouldn't be happy sharing us permanently.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 03/07/2021 15:40

Shetland Collies

iwantadogdhdoesnt · 03/07/2021 15:42

A chocolate Labrador. Alas I'm really allergic so I'm on the waitlist for a labradoodle (DH in name was "persuaded"😂)

Witchfoot · 03/07/2021 15:49

@Hellocatshome Your dog is absolutely beautiful! What breed(s) is he?

Madlymumming · 03/07/2021 15:51

I'd love a Clumber Spaniel. Although not so keen on slobbering dogs.

Have Cockers at the moment and have decided a rescue mongrel is the way to go next time.

Hellocatshome · 03/07/2021 15:53

@Witchfoot he is a Romanian street dog so a bit of everything, we think definitely some German Shepherd, possibly some Border Collie or similar as he likes to herd us and some smaller breed or breeds as he's only little.

Pinkmagic1 · 03/07/2021 15:55

An Irish water spaniel.

copernicium · 03/07/2021 15:56

I have a whippet. Would have another, best dog ever! Would also love a basset hound or dachshund.

Scattyhattie · 03/07/2021 15:58

I'd love a dark coated Borzoi & Afghan Hound neither are very practical. I'd like a pack of various sighthounds so I didn't have to choose Blush I may need a big house, few acres with a high fence to go with them.

I met some Bernese mountain dogs at a show and was smitten they're so cuddly.

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2021 15:59

What I have, English springer spaniels, but I'd be happy with any of the gundog breeds really.

I do have a soft spot for whippets and greyhounds though.
