New Whippet

I might be a new whippet mummy tomorrow.
We are going to see some 11 wk old pups and I'm probably going to fall in love and come home with one.

I have owned whippets before, but need a bit of reminding.

Boy or girl?
I always from my girls to be a bit aloof at times, which makes the better pet?

What do I need?

Is there not a waiting list?

I thought pups were pretty much being fought over in utero these days!
I’m astonished that you can just rock up to an 11 week old litter and expect to take your pick.

I have a choice of boy or girl.

If you’ve shopped online then I would seriously reconsider. Most breeders who aren’t puppy farmers and churning them out wouldn’t be able to suddenly offer you a choice of 11 week old pups.

One of my neighbours has a Lurcher boy and he says house training is a nightmare!! I have gross memories of my dgm's male ddog humping my dolls and their blankets!! And he was neutered!! Yuck!
I have many ds's. Enough male genitals in this house!!

My male whippet is very aloof.

We have an 18 month old male whippet, he’s amazing!
I’d recommend a cave bed for them and antlers to chew on

OP hasn’t answered any questions about these pups.
Guessing Scumtree or Pets4homes and a puppy farmer.
Animal welfare is more important than whether you get a boy or girl pup.

First dpuppy we chose the boldest. Last dpuppy we picked the more reserved one to add to our gang. Worked out perfectly tbh..

So we went for the girl in the end.

I have her booked into the vets on Monday for a check over and second injections

I got a pointy hound free years ago!! We have a half pedigree one now and I only paid 300 quid!! The money changing hands for pets now is ridiculous!!

Sod animal welfare eh? Never mind the lowlives breeding back to back litters from the bitches or what they do when these bitches are no longer any use to them. Just as long as you’ve got a cute puppy OP. I just hope there’s a special circle of hell for breeders like that and the people who like their pockets.

Bet they’re correct though. Decent breeders generally don’t find themselves being able to offer a choice of puppy when the litter are 11 weeks old.
Most puppy sellers are disreputable. Either BYB after a quick buck. Or puppy farmers/commercial breeders who only care about the cash.

OP is getting a hard time. We all know the issues with puppy breeders and welfare issues. But what we don’t know is her circumstances. Also this board is full of people getting puppies are they all going to get this level or criticism?

OP I have a lurcher. Sight hounds are amazing!!!
