New border collie pup worries

mumnosbest · 21/02/2021 21:36

We've had our pup just 4 days and I'm already just like a new mum, worrying about her. We searched for ages but prices have sky-rocketed so ended up going with a local man not a registered breeder. I'm now worried about how little I actually know about where she has come from.

She's 9 weeks old but seems so tiny. My kitchen scales say she's just under 3oz (not sure if they're very accurate). I have her vets card. She's had both sets of jabs and been wormed and flead according to her card. The first 2 days she was fine, very sleepy but playful in between. Yesterday she had very loose poos and brought up bile but I put it down to her pinching the cat's food (I've moved it now) and eating grass. Today she had diarrhea again and been sick. She has slept most of the day. She has been awake for short intervals but has mostly just wanted to cuddle rather than play. She has barely eaten since she arrived but is drinking and weeing plenty.

I am calling the vets first thing to get her checked over. Does this all sound normal and just stress related? Or should I be really worried?
Thanks!

Bless you for loving her and for loving her enough to let her go.

It’s the hardest thing but the greatest act of love you could give her.

Typing through tears.

My girl will be waiting for her x

So sad. At least she was loved :(

I’m pleased she ended up with you op. And that you are doing what you can do help make sure this doesn’t happen again.
I bet the dodgy breeder expects you to be quiet about your experience if you want a refund.

Bless you. You did the right thing.

Poor Oreo Flowers

SirSniffsAlot · 28/02/2021 11:44

God, how awful, OP. Flowers for you.

This thread should be stuck to the top of the board, tbh, as a clear example of why choosing a dog and breeder well is such an important step - and the possible pitfalls of not doing so.

I hope you get some justice - not least because it may save another poor little pup and unsuspecting new family going through the same misery and heartbreak.

It is worth mentioning this stolen litter (linked below) to the rspca/police

They were stolen just before you got your border collie pup - see if someone can identify Oreo as one of them. There was another litter of border collie pups stolen at a similar time too I think.

Once they left their mum, I imagine they weren't treated v well which might explain the sickness :(

(Didn't mean to suggest he was one of them but I would hope the police would try and establish if he was from one of the recent litters of stolen border collie pups)

@mumnosbest

Thanks for all your advice and support. Oreo made it through the night and as the worms were treated was actually at her best for a while, even wagging her tail. Unfortunately her glucose levels were still getting lower and her bloods were very poor. We decided to pts while she was feeling well and comfortable, rather than letting her deteriorate. It was hard as she seemed to be getting better in herself but we were reassured that this was just due to her holding food in and that we could expect seizures and loss of control of limbs soon. She left us in my arms, comfortable and loved. I'm happy in knowing we did our best for her and am in touch with a lovely lady from the council who is helping us to hopefully help her mum and siblings. The 'breeder' has offered a full refund (not holding my breath) or a replacement pup! Angry I won't rest yet, knowing he still has dogs.
That’s so sad. Thank God she found you at the end. This ‘breeder’ needs to be prosecuted and held to account. If he still has other pups and the mother , why aren’t the RSPCA doing something g about it?
ArcherDog · 28/02/2021 16:59

Have the vets said the glucose issue is related to poor breeding conditions?
Or were you just unlucky and picked a poorly puppy?

MabelMoo23 · 28/02/2021 20:09

I’m so so sorry @mumnosbest - Oreo knew only love at the end.

Sending you love. I am so so sorry
