Anyone up? My old boy is ill.

My dog has prostatitis. He's been hospitalised, but home tonight because he wouldn't eat. They hoped home comforts and favourite foods would tempt him. So far no luck (came home about 10pm).

I'm on the living room floor with him tonight. DH has gone to our bed, as he's working tomorrow.

Any hand holding or advice gratefully recieved. I'm so scared he's not going to pull through this. (He's almost 13, a Lhasa Apso.) He's been asleep but wakes up crying and tries to change position then dozes off again. Going back to vet first thing in morning so trying to just let him sleep and not worry too much, so I can get some sleep, but its easier said than done

God you worried me then op, a vet yelling sedation down a phone sounded a scary thing! Glad he’s settled, he’s in the best care and is so lucky to have you as his mum making sure he receives it x

The vet phoned this morning. No big changes. Trying to get up and walked a few steps but couldn't get his back legs to do the 3 inch step into kennel. Still waiting for neurologist.

They're taking cells from his bladder and prostate this morning to try to check what bacteria we're dealing with and looking again at the scans and x-ray they took. Plan to update at lunch time, until then no news is good news.

Thank you to everyone who's still reading. I can't get my head around how quickly this had happened. Give your pups an extra hug from me.

For those in Glasgow area, the vet school have been really good.

As you rightly say, no news is good news and Ozzi is still trying to walk etc which is a good sign. He isn't giving up bless him. Fingers crossed they work out what is going on asap!

Still no update but figured you might want to know that too. He is a very stubborn wee man.

Archie is adorable. "Awww-dorable" as we used to call Oz as a puppy, in fact.

They asked me not to phone, but it's a long time after lunch time...

Very very long time after lunch time, but a very cautious positive update.

He's been transferred out of oncology ICU to internal medicine. Taken a few steps, but still a bit uncomfortable. Pain killers every 4 hours, and now on course of stronger antibiotics. They're testing the samples for anti-biotic resistance incase that's an issue (it'll be Monday before we know the story with that).

Best news of all: visiting hours! We're allowed to go and visit tomorrow afternoon, and can take him a teddy or something that smells like us and home.

Sounding more postive and yay for visiting hours tomorrow Hope you sleep a little easier tonight!

The worse feeling of all is that one where you really can't do anything, but this stranger can send you hugs & say she has your boy in her thoughts. I hope that helps a littl

Thank you all. Positive thoughts and hugs gratefully accepted! I'm very grateful to have this wee corner of the doghouse all cheering him on, and listening to my worries.

We've just left him. He's properly walking on a lead! They gave us a room to play with him and try to feed him, then let us take him for a walk. We're allowed back tomorrow, and we've to take any food he'll eat to try and tempt him.

Vet's going to give tablet to stimulate his appetite, if not eating they'll put a feeding tube in. Repeat scans on Friday,neurologist to reassess. She's not happy with response to back paws still, but it could be a side effect of meds or of the swelling in his organs. He's not totally comfortable because of the inflammation, but much much better than he was.

He's still really sleepy and worn out. We let him play on the grass and had to carry him back inside.

He's still got a long way to go, so please keep up those good thoughts, but a much happier boy today.
