Not sure if there’s is a current thread for support for new puppy owners, would anyone be interested?

ChestyPuppy arrived on Saturday and is 10 weeks old.
Finding it tough as forgot how brutal the early days are. Our Chestydog died after 12 years earlier this year, he was my best friend Sad

Highlights of today have been...
Standing in the pouring rain in pjs and a coat shouting “do wee wees”

Dealing with a puppy pad snow storm from her shredding during the night.

Turning into a bitey hyperactive monster during a visit from my friends

Please tell me it gets better?Grin

ouchyoubiteybugger hope she is better this morning. They do like to worry us.

ouchyoubiteybugger · 14/12/2018 06:11

She slept through and woke at 5:30 For a wee as normal. She's subdued but seems much better so I will offer some food shortly. Thank you for the handhold Wolfie

Wolfiefan · 14/12/2018 06:52

You’re welcome. Hope her breakfast stays down!!

BiteyShark · 14/12/2018 07:00

Fingers crossed the breakfast stays down. If not I would pop her to your normal vets before the weekend.

ouchyoubiteybugger · 14/12/2018 09:55

So she wouldn't touch her raw but had a little dry biscuit ( wellness puppy ) I've put some in her crate so she can have as and when with her water.seemed much better before I left for work but have booked dog sitter to stay 2hours instead of 1 just in case.

LittleLongDog · 14/12/2018 11:09

That’s a good idea ouchyoubiteybugger, will someone be back after the 2hours?

Sounds like she’s feeling better but still a bit sorry for herself. Bless.

ouchyoubiteybugger · 14/12/2018 19:35

Ok so all went well today apart from she wouldn't eat. So I whizzed down to my very husky knowledgeable pet supply place and they suggested changing the type of raw to something with a different texture as she is associating her food with being poorly. I got raw factory ( not complete ) with beef and tripe to give frozen with a sprinkle of tree barks powder and she is back to being a nightmare bitey shark ! Never been so relieved in my life btw I now know his kids can projectile poo !

Still struggling to attach pics but maybe this will work

Oh she’s lovely! Glad she’s feeling better.

MattMagnolia · 14/12/2018 20:57

Our puppy (nearly grown up) is sleeping beside me but apparently having a nightmare involving him being ambushed by big scary dogs who kidnap him and hold him hostage but he’s escaped and is pelting home over hill and dale, dodging mad bulls and tractors, shouting, “Help! Help! Muuuuum! “
Should I wake him up? Tried gently stroking but that made his little legs run faster.

ChestyNut · 15/12/2018 13:48

ouch beautiful dog!

Chestypup is not keen on the wind! Goes out for a wee but sprints back in Grin

Does anyone else’s pup want to be sat on your knee all the time? I’m under a blanket and a sleeping pup 😍

Oh heck its blowing an icy gale here and raining, really wild out there!. Chestypup refusing to go and do toilet outside just cowering under a garden chair.

Any suggestions?

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 19:02

Can you erect anything in the garden to make a bit of a wind break?

sparkle789 · 15/12/2018 19:02

There a break in the rain/wind here so I’ve dashes out with sparklepup to try and get him to go to the toilet, after many, many accidents inside. Feels like a step backward today with toilet. But he’s been less jumpy and is starting to listen to down sometimes.
Bitey what a gorgeous pup!

ChestyNut · 15/12/2018 19:10

Bitey I’ll be lucky if the fences don’t blow down so don’t think I’ll be able to Sad

LittleLongDog · 15/12/2018 19:25

We’re exactly the same here Chesty; he’s going out but hating the wind and rain. It’s actually pretty sheltered where he toilets but it’s still coming down enough to make him cower.

We had slight success by waiting until he was literally weeing to take him out. But I’m not convinced that’s the answer...

BiteyShark · 15/12/2018 19:32

I think all you can do is to keep trying. Yes they may have more accidents in this weather but it won't last forever and any set backs are just that and you will get back on track again.

BiteyDog even as an adult sometimes looks at me as if to say 'you want me to go out in that?' but he knows to shoot out, toilet, and get back inside as quickly as possible.

ChestyNut · 15/12/2018 19:34

Blinking weather!

I took Wolfie girl out today. She was NOT impressed. Complete lack of friends to play with and we both got soaked. It was freezing and sooooo windy. Yuck.

ouchyoubiteybugger · 16/12/2018 06:30

Took bitey pup out out for a short walk and it turns out she loves wind and rain and will polar bear pounce in every puddle available and then run back through like a dressage pony lifting her feet high ! Very funny and I am so glad she's feeling better. Sadly feet and toes are back on the menu !

Cotonrafa · 16/12/2018 08:53

Wee Bitey Mc Bite face loved the wind and sleety snow, his wee paws were freezing. However when he came back in he had a big Pee on the floor! Now taking him out of garden for walks but he is so timid with people hides behind our legs is it just a case of the more he is out the better he will get?

LittleLongDog · 16/12/2018 10:31

Hurrah the rain has stopped! We’ve had lots of outside wees so far today and he seems happy (ish) to be back in the garden.

Love that photo itcuddles!

You puppy-owners are all crazy.

My collies came to me from rescues at 18 months and 12 months old. I've never had to toilet train or lead train. Recall has been easy to achieve and no person or object has ever been chewed that shouldn't have been. They have both been left separately and together for several hours without incident or stress. I have the two best dogs in the world.

And above all, saving a life has got to be better than buying into an industry where the 'wastage' is dogs.

Erm. All dogs start as puppies. It would be better if people were more committed to doing a good job with them when they are young so they don't end up in rescue in the first place. We have this thread because we want to do a good job. Shall we stop all dogs from breeding until the rescues are in homes?

It's pretty mean to come on this thread and make a dig.

I have two rescue dogs as well. I train my dogs to work and compete. Every week I work with owners of rescue dogs to rehabilitate them. I can also be crazy and buy a puppy if I like.
