I know! I'm never satisfied with the weather.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 03/07/2018 15:12

Oh no Bitey, remember all that mud and hosing down and dark evenings...I’ll take the heat. It is a bit cooler today here though and quite breezy, so I have totally overdone it with cocodog. Met our neighbour with the bouncy lab right at the start of our walk and since we were obviously bound on the same route, walked together. Neighbour has cottoned on that her dog is too rough in his play and did manage to stop him and get him to gambol along with cocodog. In fact they were getting on so well that we went the extra 20 mins with them and I learnt a new footpath but cocodog was shattered when we arrived home. Why on earth I thought it would be a good idea to play ball at lunchtime, she is flaked out again on the kitchen floor.
Steppe, fleas still going strong then. Reminds me cocodogs next dose of Bravecto is due and I have to decide whether to change to something else or stick with it.

steppemum · 03/07/2018 16:40

Oh I started a whole thread about the fleas girls

I am done in. 10 loads of washing and drying, sofas, beds, dog beds, quilts throws, everything that moves basically has been chucked outside this morning and is being washed before it can come back in.
meanwhile whole house has been sprayed with Strong Stuff, and we had to go out for 1.5 hours. And the dog has had an instant kill tablet, that should get any live adults, so hopefully we can stop the reinfect cycle.

Too hot for all that.
Bah humbug (there should be a summer equivalent for moments like these)

But in general, I love the weather, not complaining.

BiteyShark · 03/07/2018 16:47

I know I know I don't really want the rain, just maybe 5c cooler Grin.

At least I can play ball with BiteyDog in the morning as it's light and cool before I have to knuckle down to work. He just looks so sad as I have to literally do it for 2 mins in the day and evening and have to stop Sad

Thank god dogs can't talk. DH is watching the footie and BiteyDog is angry as he really doesn't like tv noise when he is sleeping.

Every 5 minutes he sits bolt upright, stares at us, huffs extremely loudly and then flops back down. I am trying not to laugh as it's so obvious he is trying to tell us to pee off into another room Grin

TropicPlunder · 03/07/2018 21:10

Poor Biteydog! TropichHound is snoring away happily, disturbed neither by the football, nor by me loudly fighting off a 2 inch long flying insect. (I was expecting a rescue attempt from her)

BiteyShark · 03/07/2018 21:15

Tropic I would accidentally cough loudly in her ear to ensure she resumes her insect killing duties Grin

TropicPlunder · 03/07/2018 22:22

Yeah! It's the decent thing to do, Bitey. She loves to wrangle with giant bugs and would have been sorry to miss this one

Squirrel26 · 04/07/2018 08:17

SquirrelDog has zero interest in rescuing me from spiders which obviously is the only reason I got him.

TropicPlunder · 04/07/2018 09:10

A childhood dog of mine used to deposit chewed up spiders at my feet. Not really what I was looking for!

BiteyShark · 05/07/2018 20:47

I love the fact that BiteyDog eats flies as I bloody hate them. Just wish he wouldn't try and lick me afterwards Hmm.

If you are the lady I saw at 6.45am this morning by the side of our local river - I hope Jasper finally came out (35 minutes and counting when I spoke to you) and you weren’t late for work. Little darling.

BiteyShark · 05/07/2018 21:06

Sounds like someone had a dog that was too busy enjoying themselves Waited

Waitedtoolong · 05/07/2018 21:07

Oh absolutely!

steppemum · 06/07/2018 10:42

Jasper must be steppedog's secret brother Grin

I didn't make a good decision wrt walking call morning.
Had to drop dd at school early for a trip, school is in next town, next to very nice dog walking spot, so stuck dog in car and drove off.

Go to the place nice and early 8:15, not yet hot. It is a huge flat hill top which is a common, and you park the car, walk up (not far, it is nearly flat) and then suddenly the view opens and you have half of England spread out beneath you. Truly lovely. Air is full, really full of larks, singing their hearts out.

So turns out wasn't a good idea

  1. open hill = no shade
  2. new place = steppedog needs to run round and explore at 90 million miles per hour
  3. long grass. Steppedog LOVES long grass, but he bounds through it like a deer and that is pretty tiring.
  4. no water (I had drinking water in car, just no river/pond etc) no nowhere to paddle and cool off.

10 minutes in and he was panting hard, tongue down to his knees (rarely gets like that on a normal walk)
stopped and rested on bench with a view until his panting had slowed.
But it was no good really, I pottered (only walked 2 km in total) he just ran in enormous circles, bounding through the grass at full flat out running speed. Non Stop.

stopped again on second bench, then decided to make our way back to car. He was very thirsty at the car, and is now flat out asleep at home.
Mind you, if I hadn't read all the scaremongering threads about over heated dogs on her, might have continued, not realising it was potentially serious.

BiteyShark · 06/07/2018 10:52

I have to limit BiteyDogs ball play at the moment as he would continue until he dropped (summer or winter). Fortunately as it's in the garden I use a watering can afterwards to wet his paws which helps and we have fans everywhere in the house.

Someone is just too hot

BiteyShark · 06/07/2018 11:41

Awww Goood Grin

BiteyDog is currently laid out on the bed in front of a fan.

We are having a food protest at the moment. I got rid of all the food I know he doesn't like (I can tell what he is fussy with and what he actually can't stand) but now we are left with around £70 worth of stuff he liked but clearly not as much as the new forthglade food which he licks the bowl clean for. Currently it's a battle of wills with BiteyDog winning as the food is just getting thrown away after meal times Angry

GooodMythicalMorning · 06/07/2018 11:47

Indy is now not allowed on my bed since he pooped on it which is a shame as dh has two fans going in there (night worker) Indy not eating much still but I think its the heat rather than the food itself.

BiteyShark · 06/07/2018 13:46

Oh dear Goood I can understand not allowing him on the bed after that. We have been fortunate as BiteyDog takes himself away even when ill (vomiting) so the beds have been safe.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 07/07/2018 07:00

Cocodog has rushed to the end of the end of the garden to say good morning to the cows in the field. They must have nuzzled her because I am now sharing my morning cuppa and bed with a dog who whiffs a bit and not of dog☹️

Squirrel26 · 07/07/2018 07:21

I am ridiculously indulgent when it comes to SquirrelDog and my bed, but even I would draw the line at sharing with a cow Grin. (A horse though, tbh, I’d probably be fine with...)

BiteyShark · 07/07/2018 07:49

Ewwww Cocodog

We are just back from a road walk and I feel frazzled. BiteyDog was hyper and pulled lots and I am now trying to calm him down. Maybe I should have just played ball in the garden with him instead.

Not looking forward to today given that it's meant to be as bad as yesterday. DH is threatening to spend lots on air conditioning but by the time we get it the rain will be back Grin

Hi all, can I join? I foster dogs so am only a part time dog owner, but I think my friends still get sick of the incessant dog chat. I have a one year old dogue de bordeaux x staffy at the moment who is just sooo lazy in the heat I'm almost starting to worry! At what point would you guys start to worry about lethargy in this weather?

General Dog Chat Part III
BiteyShark · 07/07/2018 11:40

Welcome Bramleyapples. My dog is a cocker spaniel so will quite happily play ball forever in this heat so probably not best one to ask Grin.

I think as long as they aren't distressed then I wouldn't worry about them lazing about. I have no idea why my dog still wants to run about Confused
