Welcome lenny. We have hard floors here so the tiles infront of the fridge freezer is his 'cool mat' which is a pain as he won't budge if you actually want to get into the fridge freezer Sad

We have hard floors too but I bought a cool mat for cocodog to put in front of the French windows. She likes to lie in her basket in the evenings at the moment and bunny watch, her tv🙄. I moved the basket out of the way and laid down the mat fresh out of the fridge. One paw went on, sorrowful looks, suspicious sniffing, DH giving a demo. Sad whining until I moved her basket back to its rightful position, happiness restored. DH watched tv with his feet on the mat so not entirely a wasted purchase.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 30/06/2018 06:33

Aw, Lenny is lovely.

BiteyShark · 30/06/2018 08:49

The advantage of sleeping with all the windows open is that it's cool. The disadvantage is that BiteyDog needs to protect us from monsters approaching the house at stupid o'clock in the morning Hmm. Just back from a ball throw (temp was 14.5c) so now both of us need a snooze Grin

Apparently the hot weather has made it acceptable for PestDog to start humping my leg whenever he gets overstimulated Blush. Preferably when he has an audience, such as during training class, or in the middle of a very busy park because I've just bought an ice cream, even though he's never been fed an ice cream in his life Hmm

BiteyShark · 30/06/2018 19:33

Avocados maybe PestDog thinks that's the best way to cool you down Grin

I could swear temperatures usually get lower towards the end of the night but it seems to be getting hotter here Sad

Bit late but congrats Wolfie, that's amazing news! You must be very proud.

RadioGums is feeling perky, considering she had a major dental op 3 days ago and has spent the last 2 days sunbathing in full heat. She is remarkably relaxed for a usually very tense dog - maybe she had pain in her mouth which has now gone.

DH barbecued last night and left a plastic bag with detritus in reach of where she was tethered (we're away in the caravan). I caught her with her face thrust in the bag, sucking up raw chicken juice and sweet chilli marinade.

I yelled "Gums get OUT" and she looked up guiltily, beard full of sweet chilli and her upper lip caught behind her lower canine. Goof.

BiteyShark · 30/06/2018 21:38

Awww glad to hear RadioDog is better even if she is getting up to mischief Grin

OP posts:
TropicPlunder · 30/06/2018 23:48

It's hard to stop a dog with the scent of detritus!! I bet she was delighted Radio

BiteyShark · 01/07/2018 09:07

Oh my I do wish this heatwave would end. 20c is just fine, 28c is just too hot and with no breeze it's awful and I can't believe it's 23c already in the house and it's only 9am.

Just done a road walk, a few agility techniques and a ball play before it becomes a sweat bucket Grin

Be glad your summer doesn’t get to 40 degrees Grin

I’m beginning to think BLuepuppy will just be an eternal puppy / teenager. He still chews, still steals stuff and still has a long way to go with his social skills. His current favourite game is to get right into dogs’ faces, even if they’re snapping and lunging at him then use his amazing whippet speed to dash out of the way. Then he goes back for more and all with a wagging tail and a grin on his face.

BiteyShark · 01/07/2018 11:40

Really couldn't cope with those temperatures blue. The hardest thing is I can't play with BiteyDog in the garden much Sad.

I am holding on to the hope that it's true when people tell me they really calm down from 2 years of age. BiteyDog is lovely at home and off lead but is the typical 'pull your arm off to kiss everyone' when on lead Blush

lovely walk at 8 am in the semi cool.
We are lucky, I just chose paths through the woods in the shade, and went round the shady edge of the fields. The river crosses our path about 6 time,s and each time he was in for a cool down and a drink.
Lovely. happy me, in sandals and shorts (no walking boots or wellies!), happy dog in nice weather having a pootle.

rest of the day flat out. He moves from concrete outside to tiled floor inside, and back again

BiteyShark · 01/07/2018 16:19

Sounds lovely steppe.

BiteyDog has been out for the count for most of the afternoon. I am dreading late evening when it cools down and he suddenly finds all his energy Grin

steppemum · 01/07/2018 16:22

ah yes, the cooling off, and so time to wake up moment.

It happens to 3 kids and a dog at the same time. Dh deals with dog, and I deal with kids.
I think my youngest (aged10) has been to bed at about 10 pm all week.

Squirrel26 · 01/07/2018 18:21

SquirrelDog doesn’t really seem to be slowed down by the heat; to be fair, he does come from Spain!

He’s not here tonight; I’ve just got home, but I’m not picking him up till tomorrow. It’s very odd!

BiteyShark · 01/07/2018 18:27

Squirrel When BiteyDog has been in the vets overnight the house just seems so empty. It's odd isn't it to walk about and not have a dog following you or hear just the usual sounds from them.

Hope you get a lovely greeting tomorrow when you pick him up.

Squirrel26 · 01/07/2018 23:59

We will see, but he’s the ultimate cool kid ‘yeah Mum, didn’t need you anyway. Didn’t even notice you were gone. It definitely wasn’t me crying when you left me for 3 minutes with someone else while you went to the toilet.’

steppemum · 02/07/2018 14:19

went out at 9:30 instead of 8:30 this morning. It was nit funny, very warm.

Steppedog has a normal pant (mouth open, tongue inside) and a serious pant (mouth open tongue hanging out down to his knees - seriously how does he fit all that tongue into his mouth??) In all this hot weather/walks etc I haven't seen him use the serious pant, until this morning, so we sidetracked via the stream before we came home and he went in for a paddle and a drink. He normally will only get his feet wet, doesn't like swimming, but he went deeper and deeper, until his tummy was under. He must have been hot!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 02/07/2018 21:19

We have been taking cocodog on walks by river and stream but she resolutely doesn’t seem interested in swimming. She walks much slower than usual through our woods and other walks but comes alive just before her supper at six wanting to chase her ball! Still too hot, so we do ball for a few mins or a short game of tuggy. If she has had a busy day I just hide some of her supper around the house. She is currently behind the sofa on the wood floor under an open window with the fan blasting awaiting Versailles which she loves!

Squirrel26 · 02/07/2018 22:16

Aaah, SquirrelDog is all happy to be home. Grin Apparently he was very good. He tried to chase the birds in the garden, was asked not to chase the birds in the garden, and stopped chasing the birds in the garden. This sounds so unlike him that I think they must be describing the wrong dog...

GooodMythicalMorning · 03/07/2018 12:25

Much nicer this morning. Bit of a breeze here which means a proper dog walk. Although he didn't want to which meant we didn't get far.

BiteyShark · 03/07/2018 12:35

BiteyDog was raring to go last night when it had cooled down. I don't think 2am is the right time for playing ball in the garden Angry.

OP posts:
steppemum · 03/07/2018 12:42

Grin at BiteyDog wanting to play at 2 am.

I have spent all morning washing, spraying and cleaning to try and get rid of the fleas.
am now exhausted.
Hope it works

BiteyShark · 03/07/2018 12:50

Isn't it funny you spend all winter praying the rain would end and it start to be warm. Now I can't wait for autumn Grin

Fingers crossed that you get on top of the fleas steppe.
