We try to keep Indy away from the bin as he will just pull everything out of it.

BiteyShark · 21/06/2018 20:15

I do find listening to BiteyDog do little woofs in his sleep so relaxing. Would love to know what he dreams about.

Ayyyyy! Here you all areGrin

A quick update -

Change of dog food = I made the switch too soon and had two doggies with poorly tummies😬

Dog training - had first consultation with a one to one trainer (my two were in a shelter abroad for many years) they have few a confidence issues. So I'm confidence building training. She seemed to know what she was talking about. It's not costing an arm and a leg so going with it

5am waking - I'm 😴 considering getting black out curtains. Bigwheelydog wakes me to go out by doing a high pitch whistle dance. It's really sweet. She goes back to sleep and then I'm like👀

Hope everyone and their 4 legged friends are good!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 21/06/2018 20:39

Bitey, I think a bit like this...Cuddle, Breakfast,Snooze, Walk, Ball, Sleep, Patrol garden, Play, Snooze, Walk, Potter, Ball, Tea, Snooze, Brush and Treat, Sleep. It’s a dogs life!

BiteyShark · 21/06/2018 20:55

thegirl it's definitely a dogs life. I think that everytime I watch him snoozing on the sofa whilst I am working to pay for all his stuff Grin

Hiya Wheely BiteyDog is an early waker just like us but we had a stint where he was waking around 4am which was taking the piss. I think we have cracked that by ignoring him and using an alarm to signal it's time to get up. Glad you like the trainer and I think you get so much more out of 1-1 sessions.

I imagine SquirrelDog's internal monologue is along the lines of 'bird, bird, squirrel, CAT, CAT, mummummummum, look at me, look at me! SQUIRREL, birdbirdbirdbird, ZZZzzzz.'

Judging by the noises he makes, I'd guess his dreams are much the same. Grin

WheelyCote · 21/06/2018 21:42

Bitey thanks for that tip, regards the alarm. I'm** going to try thatGrin

Wolfiefan · 21/06/2018 22:45

Wheely definitely get black out curtains. Madam can sleep until 8 with hers. I got cheap and light but actual black ones (she's in the kitchen so I couldn't care less about the colour!) One pair are too short and one too long. If I can work out how to I will chop some off the long ones and attach to the short ones. Don't hold your breath!!
Wish us luck. Dog fest coming up. Entered prettiest female and child's best friend. They need a trick for the last class. I have 24 hours to get small child to teach big dog to ring a hotel style bell on command (she kind of does it for me!) how wrong can this go eh?!?! Hmm

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 22/06/2018 00:01

Ooh we're going to Dog Fest too, but on Sunday. If you see a small black and tan dog kicking off at your wolfhound, wave enthusiastically and I'll try to restrain the beast while I wave back Grin

We haven't entered any of the classes, after realising that there's not much he excels at and the full minute of dog tricks might have been a bit ambitious.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 22/06/2018 00:05

Summer solstice tonight. Did anyone else find lots of people who looked like they hadn't showered since the last solstice Pagans and others in the park?

I hadn't realised what day it was, and despite the temptation alley of weeknight picnickers, awful acoustic versions of Nirvana songs and an open air silent disco, I only realised when I saw a clearly religious service going on under a tree.

Wolfiefan · 22/06/2018 00:08

Bristol?
Small world.
Nope we are going Saturday. So don't wave as it won't be me!!!!
Happy to meet up if you ever need a stunt wolfhound for desensitisation. Grin

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 22/06/2018 00:17

Indeed - are you from the area? I've got family and work connections there so I'm down there every few weeks.

For some reason I had thought that you were impractically far north 🤔

Wolfiefan · 22/06/2018 00:17

Haha. No. Not North. Will PM if that's ok.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 22/06/2018 00:19

Of course :)

BiteyShark · 22/06/2018 05:12

Enjoy the dog fest Wolfie and Avocados.

Would be pointless taking BiteyDog to anything like that because whilst he is perfectly behaved off lead and ignores all distractions we still have issues on lead where he would pull my arm off trying to greet and kiss every dog and person in the world Blush

GooodMythicalMorning · 22/06/2018 09:05

Indy loves kissing everyone too, flirts!

steppemum · 22/06/2018 11:14

Oh good luck Wolfie.

Steppedog is such a baby.
Just got back from an amazing walk, 2.5 hours, lovely, Steppedog behaving perfectly, perfect recall, weather beautiful etc. All very nice.

In the middle we stopped at a bench and two other dog walkers converged on the bench and we had a nice friendly chat etc. 6 dogs between them, all half Steppedogs size. All very amicable. Then another lady came up who the others knew, she had 5 whippets and a greyhound with her. Greyhound gentle and not bothered, 5 whippets, half Steppedogs size, but very confident came up to say hello, lots of barking and bouncing.

Steppedog looked round him, now 12 dogs circling round, all very friendly. He was easily the biggest (apart from the greyhound who was off to one side)
Steppedog came and sat on my feet and leaned back against my legs. Looked up at me like - too many dogs Mum.

Ow, such a baby. So cute, and so gentle.
I said goodbye and left at that point, my very happy dog bounced off down the track with me!

Now flat out asleep on his bed.

bluetongue · 22/06/2018 13:14

I don’t blame Steppedog for being overwhelmed by the whippets Grin My whippet boy loves to stir up the bigger dogs at the park to get them to chase him. Then he wins. Of course.

Freezing before work walk this morning at 4 degrees. Still better than the middle of summer here though. Plus it means Bluepuppy can wear his gorgeous new coat Smile

SquirrelDog and I had Dog School this afternoon. He did very well, playing searching games and hide-and-seek outside while his trainer held his longline to make sure he didn't bugger off after the farm cat.

Our homework is to have a really good go at breaking his obsessive barking at things he can hear outside the house. In order to do this I need to mask outdoor noises everywhere he can hear them. Currently I've got the tv on, and the radio upstairs, and the radio in the kitchen. It might be even more annoying than the frantic barking and scrabbling...

BiteyShark · 23/06/2018 08:22

What's the idea behind that Squirrel? Do you lower the sound that is masking the outside noise once you have got him out of the habit of barking?

OP posts:
AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/06/2018 08:26

Brilliant coat @Blue

PestDog has got into a few games of chase with whippets and similar. He always looks slightly surprised when the sprint off into the distance - he's pretty fast for a little dog, but he is no greyhound! I'm sure the reason he likes pugs and Frenchies so much is that he knows he'll always win because they can't breathe and he can

Squirrel26 · 23/06/2018 10:15

I think so, Bitey, he gets into a state where you can't distract him or remove him because it winds him up more, so the idea is to stop him being set off in the first place. I suppose like those CDs of fireworks noise you can buy and gradually turn up, only we're gradually turning the masking noise down.

BiteyShark · 23/06/2018 10:43

That makes sense Squirrel, hope you are some improvement soon.

BiteyDog is suffering with the heat but the good news is he loves the forthglade wet food I got him and no signs of it upsetting his stomach so we have more flavours he can eat
