Yep! Improving but still a red and yeasty!
We have worn through another boot and have a new set on order. But the only ones to fit have to be imported!!
We have a soft muzzle but her tongue can get out of the end so it's cone as well. I've ordered a Baskerville muzzle hoping she can't lick and chew overnight and won't have to wear the cone.
Would also mean I could actually leave her home alone for the first time in over 2 months.

BiteyShark · 26/12/2017 16:58

Yes we have the Baskerville type one. Poor WolfieDog it's been going on for weeks Sad

I am going to try protex pawz ones that slip over the paw to keep it dry when he has to go out to toilet. At the moment we are using a thick plastic bag that the vet gave us to put over his dressing.

BiteyShark · 27/12/2017 12:46

SHIT shit and double shit is how I feel Sad. Paw is infected and had opened up so he will need dressings on and changed every two days and will take weeks to heal now so no playing or getting it wet. I am going to have to work from home again so hoping work is sympathetic again.

Wolfiefan · 27/12/2017 13:03

Oh bugger and fuck. I'm so sorry. Antibiotics now? Paws are a bugger to heal (as we know) Poor pupper.

BiteyShark · 27/12/2017 13:42

Yes antibiotics and dressing will need to be changed Friday, Sunday (emergency vets) and Tuesday and probably more days after. I could cry. Really not had much luck. I guess the only positive is he is insured so at least we only pay the excess otherwise I think this dog would end up bankrupting us at this rate Sad

Soubriquet · 27/12/2017 14:29

Bollocks... I've cut Lexa's quick

BiteyShark · 27/12/2017 15:22

Soubriquet won't help this time but you can get a pen type thing to put on the nail if you cut the quick to stop it bleeding. I must admit I am happier with the grinder, more of a faff as you have to do it frequently but very safe in my hands Wink

Soubriquet · 27/12/2017 15:24

Yes I know about the pens. Never thought to get one as I've never cut her before..or any of my previous dogs. Just had to take her to the vet though. Could not get it to stop bleeding. 5 minutes with a silver nitrate pencil and it's done... bloody 45 mins worth of blood and they sort it in 5 minutes. I'm so glad though

Wolfiefan · 27/12/2017 15:29

I did the same. We get nails done at the vets now. I think you can also use cornflour. I made a real mess of it and it started bleeding again a few days after.

BiteyShark · 27/12/2017 15:30

Hope she (and you) are ok now. I am seriously thinking I need to beef up my dog emergency first aid kit Grin

BiteyShark · 27/12/2017 15:34

Although my first aid kit should come with a vet. How embarrassing is it when the practice has number of vets in double digits and most of them recognise you and say hello in the waiting room. If BiteyDog was a child I think we would have raised many red flags with the number of visits Blush

Soubriquet · 27/12/2017 15:39

Oh god I tried everything

I tried soap and flour and water. Salt water. Pressure. Even used a child's sock as a bandage to stop her bothering it.

Luckily she didn't yelp or anything and was happy for me to continue to fiddle about with her paw. She flinched at the silver nitrate but the vet did say it can sting them.

I didn't panic as I know it's a lot of blood but no real problem but after 30 mins did start to worry slightly

bluetongue · 27/12/2017 20:48

Oh Bitey what bad news about Biteydog. Good thing you can work from home.

Soubriquet I cut Bluepuppy’s quick the first time I tried trimming his nails. It was just before I took him to the vegetable for his shots (wanted to look like a good owner, ha!). I’ve paid to get then trimmed since then. One of his daycares does grooming so I just get his nails done while he’s there.

I’m going to have to do some remedial recall work. The stupid teenage whippet is being rude to other dogs and won’t come back to me Sad He will be fine with some dogs but others seem to push his buttons and he won’t leave the alone, even when they don’t want to play ‘whippet style’. He also does furiously fast laps around the park but doesn’t realise that most dogs won’t want to play chase at that speed. I’ve spoken to both his daycares about his behaviour and they both say he’s fine although is boisterous and can play a bit rough at times.

QOD · 27/12/2017 23:18

Midget dog is settling in well. SHes got us all trained perfectly already
She’s sleeping downstairs in her crate and have only has one random night of yipping
No toilet accidents today at all 👌
Even in the snow

beanhunter · 27/12/2017 23:19

Bean pup also doing ok at night. Toilet training a mixed bag. Think I need to work on training the dh who is pretty crap at spotting his signals and taking him out ASAP when seeing them (rather than faffing doing up his coat....)

BiteyShark · 28/12/2017 09:37

blue he's at that difficult age trying to push your boundaries. Hang in there and have lots of Wine Cake Grin

bean and QOD sounds like it's going well.

We had a tough night last night. BiteyDog went crazy about 2am limping and biting his paw all over the house. It must be really hurting him now. We are both crashed out still in bed as both of us are shattered from his shenanigans.

bluetongue · 28/12/2017 10:30

Pup in the snow is very cute QOD Grin Jealous of you getting snow.

This whole dog behaviour thing is a minefield (not to mention owner behaviours). Took Bluepuppy to a different park today. The good is that he found another dog to run, nip and play whippet style. The bad part was a Sharpei constantly try to mount him. I wasn’t happy about it and Bluepuppy gave a couple of warning snaps at the other dog. Is the humping just doggy behaviour not to worry about or should the owner have put his dog back on the lead as mine wasn’t happy? There was also a big size difference between the two and I was worried about Bluepuppy getting hurt.

BiteyShark · 28/12/2017 10:48

blue no idea of the dog etiquette of a dog park. However in fields where other dogs have run up to mine and started jumping on him (which he hates) I ask the owners to get their dog whilst I walk away with mine. Most are ok with that as their dog has run off from them and they are trying to recall them back but you do get a few owners that get arsey with me because I don't want to let my dog get beaten up play with theirs but it's usually because it's not their much smaller dog getting jumped on and hurt.
I trust my own instincts on whether BiteyDog is happy and for most part the dogs sniff and say hello but when I think he is going to get hurt I try and remove him from the situation.

Puppy has arrived.😀

We're a few days in now and all getting settled. Today's aim is to start day crate training. I've put her in there when she's very sleepy and she's had a couple of naps and I've put her in with a chew for a couple of mins. Do I just carry on with this for a few days until she's more confident in there? Even with someone at home, there are times like swimming lessons and doc appointments where she will have to be left so I need to crack it fairly quickly.

ZivaDiva · 28/12/2017 15:14

Mine is snoozing in his crate at the moment and has been for the past hour, I fed him in there with the door shut, then took him outside, bit of play then put him to bed with a treat and pottered about in the vicinity for a while . Very peaceful so far. Smile

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 28/12/2017 18:46

Hope all injured puppies heal quickly!

Well, I'm 8 hours into dog ownership and feeling tense! He's been great so far. I'm just curious about tonight - am I supposed to wake him to wee? Feeling delighted it's the coldest night so far.

Pleased it's going well Ziva Smile.

BiteyShark · 28/12/2017 18:52

Dorito I slept in the room next door to mine along with a baby monitor l so I could hear him stir so every time he did I got up to take him out to pee then straight back in to sleep. It was very obvious mine was not a puppy that would sleep through the night so after he settled in I started to use an alarm to wake him for a pee otherwise he would have an accident.

BiteyShark · 28/12/2017 18:55

Ziva glad pup had arrived safe and well.

Fanny when will you need to leave him for any length of time? I spent every day getting mine used to being left for a few mins and then increasing it bit by bit.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 28/12/2017 18:56

Thanks Flowers. I'm sleeping next to him, so will take him out if he wakes. I might set an alarm too and then if he hasn't woken me, I could wake him. I've not seen him wee at all today, but no accidents and he had a poo on the grass after tea so I was very proud of him!
