It is grim indeed. We have our late afternoon excursion into our local woods every day at the moment and our evening paddle in the utility sink to get the mud off. Also daily battles with brambles wrapped around tail or paw. However, better than the grass seeds of summer embedded all over the coat I think! Maybe😳

bluetongue · 22/12/2017 07:39

Summer isn’t all good. On the hotter days (around 40 degrees) it’s really only very early or after dark walks. Even ‘cooler days’ mean being very careful when I walk him. I’m holidaying in the snow in February and can’t wait!

Even in winter Bluepuppy doesn’t do mud or wet. I am jealous of you having ‘local woods’. I swear I was born in the wrong country sometimes Grin

A couple of funny recent stories. Firstly, I’d read about using puréed baby food in kongs so I was in the baby aisle of my local supermarket scanning ingredients to avoid onions and other nasties. Will be interesting to see if he likes it. Ended up buying chicken, pumpkin and potato flavour ...

The other evening I took Bluepuppy to a local dog park. Away from the grassed area there is bark chip mulch. While I was chatting with another owner Bluepuppy decided too do a poo in the bark chip area. Even though I tried to remember the spot he had poo’d it was impossible to pick it out from background of brown bark chips. So I got my poo bag and picked up some bark chips to look like I was picking up the poo Blush

BiteyShark · 22/12/2017 11:31

Haha blue I was thinking more of UK summers. 40 degrees is way too hot for me Grin.

bluetongue · 22/12/2017 12:37

Well to be fair it’s not that hot every day. Dubai it is not! I still turn into a bit of a vampire this time of year though. At least I live near some nice beaches and both of us love walking / running along those Smile

Elphame · 22/12/2017 13:35

Peace reigns for once.

He is not allowed on that chair and he shouldn't be sleeping on my cream coat but no way am I disturbing him!

BiteyShark · 22/12/2017 15:13

Elphame he looks so happy Grin

Well we are all vaccinated for another year so that all done.

Elphame · 22/12/2017 15:29

So he should be - he'd just had a 4 (human) miles off lead walk, a shower and a bowl of turkey with cauliflower, sweet potato, peas and carrots for lunch!

You've reminded me I need to ring the vet to get some more worming pills. He's due his over the Christmas week

BiteyShark · 23/12/2017 11:01

Fgs I am waiting in the vets AGAIN. Looks like we will also be back over Xmas to the emergency vets as well.

BiteyDog has ripped his paw pad and is having it cleaned, glued and dressed. Will have to come back to have it redressed at the emergency vets in a few days. Why didn't I get a dog like doesn't run and jump at high speed. So much for a quiet Xmas.

PerfectlyChaotic · 23/12/2017 11:04

Oh noooooooo....after all was well after vaccinations too. Poor you Bitey & BiteyDog. Is there no way they can treat it as a non-emergency appointment as it's planned?! Sending 🍷 & 🍫

Elphame · 23/12/2017 12:05

Oh not again - poor Biteydog. Doesn't have much luck.

I've sent DP off with Elfpup to walk him, pick up the scrumpy, pick up DD from the other side of the county, deposit her in the city so she can have lunch with a friend and bring her luggage back here with him.

What could possibly go wrong?

BiteyShark · 23/12/2017 12:16

Festive foot dressing but no festive walks for us for a few weeks. Needs redressing on Xmas day (emergency vets) and then back again Wednesday. Bloody hell! Sad.

I need Wine

Elphame · 23/12/2017 12:34

Well it's a pretty bandage at least. Never mind the wine I think that calls for gin!

SkeletonSkins · 23/12/2017 12:39

Hello all, not posted for a while but just wanted to pop in - lovely to get an update on some familiar puppies and see some new faces.

Our pup celebrated his 1st birthday a couple of days ago, and he was the reason I started the first puppy survival thread!!! We've started agility and he's loving it- in fact he got his first red rosette at the Christmas competition!

Hope you are all doing well - just a side note, we have a perfect fit harness and would totally recommend one. Fits perfectly, never moves around and still looks good after 6 months of solid use in all weathers including going swimming!

Bitey - sorry to hear biteypup has been in the wars! That's a very fetching sock, bless him!

Awww lovely to see SkeletonPup again, happy birthday and well done on the agility.

We have done a few agility sessions and he loves it so can't wait to get back to them in the new year.

BiteyDog is acting like his leg his broken. He doesn't like the sock at all Grin

stillnotjustamummy · 23/12/2017 19:39

StillnotPup doesn't seem to like his toys! He likes shoes, chairs... what else can I try? He is 10weeks old today!

BiteyShark · 23/12/2017 19:45

still what kind of toys have you got?. At that age soft toys which had vertically no stuffing were popular as he could chew and easily drag them around.

I would hide things like shoes and remove him if he starts chewing the furniture as you don't want him to get into that habit if possible. Maybe try a few different types of toys to see what he likes? Something interactive perhaps like a rope you for you to pull gently, a chew root (if he likes the taste of wood), something squeaky etc

bluetongue · 23/12/2017 19:57

Oh Biteypup. You are a trouble magnet. Sorry to hear about the latest injury. Nice sock though Grin

Think I’m going to stop letting Bluepuppy play in the small dog area of out dog park. Most of the time he’s okay but being a whippet he can have a play style that is pretty over the top. Yesterday all was well until a woman brought a small terrier in. They’re usually pretty feisty so I thought all would be well but Bluepuppy ran up and nibbled the terrier’s neck and the other dog squealed. The owner threw a ball at Bluepuppy and feeling terrible I put him back on the lead and he went and played with the big dogs instead. Whoops Blush

Lovely photo Skeleton . No way could I have wrapped presents in the same room as Bluepuppy Grin

What kind of toys does your pup have Stillnot? Sometimes dogslike some toys and not others so keep trying.

SkeletonSkins · 23/12/2017 20:41

You can get small balls that you put treats inside and sort of fold up? Anything that moves quickly along the floor seemed to attract my pup - tying some string to a toy and then dragging it around got them interested.

blue those presents are fake just incase!!

Wolfiefan · 23/12/2017 21:12

I wrapped whilst Wolfie napped!
How about a therapaw boot Bitey. Poor baby. I've ordered some from US. Only ones that fit her!!
Frozen carrots and stuffed kongs (soak dried food, stuff and freeze) and nylabones saved all but one wall!!

BiteyShark · 23/12/2017 23:27

Wolfie We have currently have a make shift plastic cover that the vets gave us for when he has to go into the garden which he absolutely hates and can't walk in (does a stupid hop). I won't know until Wednesday what we are expected to do long term but I might order one of those if we need to keep it dry for a long time. The slice had ripped the top off his pad off rather than say down the middle so I am praying that it heals better iykwim but they were talking weeks to fully heal (fortunately I have almost two weeks at home for the holidays).

bluetongue · 24/12/2017 02:17

What a nightmare Bitey Sad Bluepuppy also likes to run around like a lunatic but mostly on the beach or grassy parks. Guess that’s the upside of no woodland walks. Think if Biteydog and Bluepuppy met they’d get on famously Grin

Have made some baby food kongs up and put them in the freezer today. Let’s see if he likes them Smile

BiteyShark · 24/12/2017 05:40

I was really hoping for a relaxing Xmas this year given that we just survived the last one trapped in the kitchen with a bitey peeing pup. Oh well that's gone out the window as we now have a fight to get the plastic boot over his dressing every time he wants to go in the garden. We were told if it gets wet it's straight back for redressing no matter what day or time so not something we can risk Sad

DH is thinking of using black electrical tape completely around one of his socks instead as a thing to use just in the garden for toilet breaks. Not sure how that will work but I think we need to give it a try as we have this for several days.

Hope bluepup likes the baby food kongs (and they aren't too messy as they defrost Grin)

PerfectlyChaotic · 24/12/2017 07:55

I like the sound of baby food...I've been looking for some new kong inspiration! Which type should I be using (obviously avoiding onions etc)?

I second anything that you can drag along the floor for toys. PerfectPuppy loves anything that she can get her teeth into...bought a sheepskin tuggy recently which she can't resist. It's on a really long handle too, which is brilliant for avoiding accidental teeth/skin! I use it for playing whilst on walks only in a bid to persuade her that I'm far more exciting than all the other dogs!!

Sorry to hear about all the foot dramas 😕

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 24/12/2017 09:43

Hello all, I would like to join as I suspect you may become my best friends over the next few months!

I'm a first time owner and I'm picking up my pup in a few days. The nerves are setting in! I'm suspecting all the planning and prep will quickly go out of the window and I'll end up a weeping wreck by the new year.

There seems to be so much conflicting information - even more than when I had my children. I'm going to attempt to crate train him and I hope to use a clicker. His breeder raw feeds, so we'll continue with that. We have two 10 year old house cats too, so I'm sure they will fall out with me. It's because of them I've gone for a puppy rather than an older dog.

BiteyShark · 24/12/2017 09:57

Welcome KinkyDoritowithsparkleson. I have started to think that how to bring up a puppy seems just as 'controversial' as having children when you look online Grin. What breed are you getting?

We are having our Xmas dinner today rather than tomorrow so sitting here with BiteyDog sniffing the air in anticipation. He will be having some turkey breast later Grin.
