Help - a Lovely but heavily pregnant Lurcher turned up at my door today

I know it's late & I know there's a thread for pointy hound lovers, but I seem to have acquired a heavily pregnant Lurcher, she was lurking round my house all day - very rural no near neighbours, every time I looked out the door she was there, very underfed but sweet & extremely sociable, after about three hours I crumbled & fed her, at which point I noticed she was HEAVILY pregnant & rather skinny.

I've taken her to the Vets', no chip, no report, so she's come back here, she had a show of mucus at the vets' and has been intermittently been panting very heavily, I've phoned the vet again (who luckily are personal friends) who told me how to do an internal, couldn't feel anything yet, so I guess it's just a waiting game.

I've had dogs in the past, but DOGS, never bitches & I've never whelped a pup in me life.

Help & hand-holds would be lovely.

Awwwwww great job all' and now I'm really puppy broody again! Hmm

livelablove · 01/11/2014 19:24

adara I know what you mean they are so adorable. Is there any chance of adopting one still, or is there a long waiting list of MNers?

Ratbagcatbag · 01/11/2014 19:34

Lovely thread. Donated to the just giving page. Well done hounds what an awesome thing to do.

I know a few people commented on owners dumping previously loved pets, but our cat has that background. Turned up on the doorstep, thin and starving. Took her in, checked for chip, advertised everywhere. Papers, Internet etc.

She is litter trained, house trained, spayed, friendly, doesn't scratch inside, but no one ever claimed her. Cats protection concluded shed been dumped. Their loss as she's adorable and been here 5 years plus now.
People get fed up, can't be bothered, can't afford it, circumstances change etc. none of it makes it right but at the time when we weren't sure what to do rescues had waiting lists off nearly four months before they could take her. Luckily for her, her paws were firmly under the table, on the sofa, under the duvet and wherever she damn well liked after day three. Grin

Wow! 11 Shock

What a girl! She looks so proud of herself (and knackered!) I've followed this from the start. What an amazing story - so glad it has a happy ending.

And what dotdotdot says is so true - irresponsibility causes suffering Sad

WannaBe · 01/11/2014 19:50

wow eleven. Shock Shock Smile here's hoping they all find homes soon....

TooMuchCantBreathe · 01/11/2014 19:55

So pleased to hear this! Well done to everyone involved from day 1. This girl has fallen on her feet thanks to people who didn't just walk by and people who were prepared to take up the fight as needed. dds and I are all smiley and a little teary!

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 01/11/2014 21:08

Ohh, I get to name a pup, I've got to decide which one first, too hard, I'm quite keen on that little purple collared fellow though.

Wolfiefan · 01/11/2014 21:55

Well done Mabli!
11 (and a proud mum) why people should never take on a pet without preparing, should neuter and should rescue (rather than buying off some dodgy bloody website.)
Rant over.
Sorry.

rachmultiplemum · 01/11/2014 22:01

Hound hard decision isn't it!

AcrossthePond55 · 01/11/2014 22:07

I can't decide if she's saying "Look at what I did!!" or "Where did they ALL come from?!".

A beautiful pile o' puppy cuteness!

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 01/11/2014 22:13

It is Rachel, though, due to another strange & completely bizarre happening this evening, I think I may have an idea.

OP, have been following Mabli's progress, but have been on holiday without internet access this last week. I might have room in heart and home for a little boy (got a girl already). Whom should I contact?

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 01/11/2014 23:13

Shockers, if you go on to their Website here you can fill in an application form , they'll then go through any applications & follow up with home visits etc & hopefully find fantastic homes for all the pups.

Livelablove I already have 2 dogs, would love to add a puppy, I like 3 as a good pack number, but can't afford another one Sad

SinclairSpectrum · 02/11/2014 10:36

Hound - what was your idea?? Have I missed something???

yesbutnobut · 02/11/2014 16:10

Never has the saying 'better out than in' been more apt! Well done Mabli, her fosterers, Hounds First and not to mention OP without whom there could have been a different outcome altogether
!

Mmmnotsure · 02/11/2014 16:53

Greetings hound from near E. H.

I am so glad that Mabli had the instinct to go to you and that you took her in. Dreadful to think what she and the puppies might have endured otherwise. You have saved her from what could have been an awful outcome, and now she can be safe and cared for and not scared.

I am also very glad that you handed her over to her foster carers (although I'm sorry about the cat and your arm!). It would have been difficult and probably rather scary for you and the children to have coped with all those puppies.

I bet you never realised, when you first set eyes on here, that she was going for the Dodie Smith Real-Life Puppies record.

CuddlesAndShit · 03/11/2014 08:48

Oh, what a brave girl, she has just melted my heart. Mabli and her pups are simply gorgeous!

Thanks to Hounds and Rachel they now will stand the best possible chance of finding good homes and happy lives, so thank you for taking Mabli in. Thanks Most people would have turned her away. She definitely chose the right house!

seem to have something in my eye

CuddlesAndShit · 03/11/2014 08:49

Sorry, Hound not Hounds Blush

CuddlesAndShit · 03/11/2014 08:51

Although the plural of dog is probably apt at the moment Grin

Owllady · 03/11/2014 10:41

Oh how lovely and they were born on my birthday :)
