Outlander season 7

The good news is that the the bad news is that season 7 won't be here until summer.

I've not actually read the books beyond volume 4 so don't know what's going to happen, but I presume Claire will live and she and Jamie will carry on as two of the hottest and youngest-looking sixtysomethings to ever hit our screens!

Oh very good. Malva’s murder was solved very quickly. Loved seeing grandma and grandpa Jamie and Claire. As for John and Jamie breaking up that was sad too. A very emotional episode that ended with a cliffhanger!

Maggiesgirl · 23/06/2023 14:35

Did need a box of tissues though. Loved seeing Bree and William together.

Thought the acting from all 4 of the main actors in this episode was very good.

Watched it at 6 this morning before I had to get ready to go out. 😁

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2023 15:42

That was quite the ending!

I was surprised as wasn't expecting to be able to watch this yesterday.

I wasn't totally taken with it but wondered, and hopefull those of you who are good at remember detail, if this was how they were going to solve the problem of the old newspaper report of Claire and Jamie being reported as killed by a fire.

I cant remember the date of the newspaper, so this may not be it.

But if it is would maybe explain why they are presumed dead because I have a horrible feeling (which I hope is wrong) that they too will return to present day.

Just when I thought we had got rid of Bree and Roger!

Not sure it will be that interesting watching Jamie discover Disney World/Land and meeting Mickey Mouse ...

Maggiesgirl · 23/06/2023 17:00

Jamie can't travel to the future ever.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2023 17:13

That's right, and Diana Gabaldon has said she will never bring him forward in time.

I guess the latest episode isn't such a cliffhanger when we know there's still the rest of the season and season 8 to go!

Yes, I am blushing. Just as I hit "post" I thought on no, I've made a very basic error in terms of basics of Outlander.

But apart from that, is it the right time frame for the fire to be the one reported in the old newspaper?

We will find out later why their deaths were posted in the newspaper.

Thank you, and for not posting a spoiler!

Have 6 days to think up all sorts of plotlines.

Did anyone else find the scene between Jamie and Lord John a bit strained. Again this may be that I have forgotten something, but I thought they had reached some sort of understanding but here there both seemed really uncomfortable.

And also I thought it a bit odd William having to be reminded who Jamie was. Hadn't he come with Lord John to America as a young boy and met Jamie, so to refer to him as the groomwho knew as a child, rather than the more recent encounter.

Lord John never speaks about Jamie with William. Even the last time they met when William came to Fraser's ridge he remembered Jamie as the groom unprompted and then he accused Jamie of not reminding him of that fact. So Jamie is forever the groom ...

Oh that's a shame. I'd have liked to see that.

aqiarious · 23/06/2023 21:21

I wondered what the cliffhanger would be, as there didn't seem to be much time left in the episode Shock

Feministwoman · 24/06/2023 00:47

It's interesting how the tv series can suddenly zip through a book in three episodes, when they stick to Diana's words!

When previously, they didn't move on much

Ok, they have left out a lot of story arc (Brianna abduction and the whole Okrakroke find out etc plus a whole lot of Independence stuff)

But we've really zipped though a book and a half. In a few episodes cf the books

I've not read the books, but do wonder when we have Claire doing a talk over, as happened in episode 2, is a way of cutting out some story lines.

Does Diana Gabaldon have any control or does she just have to accept how they trim the narrative?

MoChridhe · 24/06/2023 07:41

Frankly I am glad to be skipping through the books, book 7 was the least enjoyable for me, though I'm happy the tv series appears to be focusing on the most interesting parts so far.

Bree's abduction was covered in season 5.
Book 8 is more interesting book in my opinion and glad we are heading there soonish.

I think another reason for the rush is because they thought season 7 would be the last so thet wanted to get as much stuff in. I am glad they didn't got the Alan Christie arch done and didn't linger on it.

Fellow book readers, I would be happy if they skip the major book 8 Fergus story.

aqiarious · 24/06/2023 07:53

I can see I'm going to have to read the books. I'd imagine they're quick reads, not too heavy, if the series are anything to go by.

I wondered why Claire and Jamie didn't go with them, though they seemed to think they would not meet again - their only grandchildren too. It wasn't brought up as an option. I wonder if it had been in the book.

While they're not intellectually heavy, they are, quite literally, heavy - the later ones are over 1000 pages each so not much of a quick read Grin

Yeah, this is why I gave up at The Fiery Cross. It was literally too difficult to hold and I don't like using a Kindle to read.

Maggiesgirl · 24/06/2023 08:13

I have all the books on audible now. As an average they are around 50 hours each. Not a quick read.

I have the books on both Kindle and Audible and they are linked so I can switch between reading and listening seamlessly. The audible books are excellent, really some of the best quality reads I've come across. Highly recommend them.

Jamie can't travel and Claire cannot leave Jamie. I don't recall it being discussed much in the books but it was always a given that Claire stays for Jamie. This episode killed me, they literally lost their only family. 😥

Sycasmores · 24/06/2023 11:16

@MoChridhe Do you, or anyone else, mind telling me why Jaime can't time travel? I haven't read the books.

aqiarious · 24/06/2023 11:52

Oh, so he can't travel rather than won't. That makes sense as he offered Claire that gem that she threw away.

I don't remember it being mentioned before (that could just be me) except for the Battle of Culloden, possibly, where I thought he wanted to stay to help as the reason not to go with Claire then?
