Outlander season 7

The good news is that the the bad news is that season 7 won't be here until summer.

I've not actually read the books beyond volume 4 so don't know what's going to happen, but I presume Claire will live and she and Jamie will carry on as two of the hottest and youngest-looking sixtysomethings to ever hit our screens!

I find the American setting a bit more dull.

I agree and I'm American, descended from Highland settlers in North Carolina. It's still filmed in Scotland, though. Scotland is cast as North Carolina.

That's interesting I didn't know it was still filmed in Scotland.

I already have prime. It won't let me sign up for lionsgate via the prime app. I'm hoping we don't have to pay 🤔

Watching later I hope

Sadly you do still have to pay. That's why I'm holding off for a bit to watch a few episodes together as I don't think there's much else on Lionsgate that I want to watch. I'll cancel as soon as I've watched S7.

crumpet · 16/06/2023 12:12

Thought it was a solid first episode- nice to see them back

I've watched episode one. Wow! Brilliant.

Me too! Very brilliant. Mark Lewis Jones is such a fantastic actor! And it ended on a high.

crumpet · 16/06/2023 12:13

I signed up to lionsgate via prime. There was an offer on.

Labtastic · 16/06/2023 13:33

I enjoyed the first episode a lot - I thought season six was a bit meh but felt with this episode it's hopefully back on form. Can anyone who has read the books place whereabouts in them we are? I've read them, but a long time ago, and fancy picking back up roughly where season 7 starts (I know it's a bit jumbled up)

The scene between Claire and Tom was just incredible.

Does it show on lions gate how many episodes there are altogether? I have so many subscriptions for things that I was hoping to wait until I could get away with just signing up for 1 month and bingeing it all.

Season 7 is 16 episodes. However they will show 8 starting today, then the next 8 early next year.

MoChridhe · 16/06/2023 16:38

One episode a week

Thank you. The swizzers! So I’ll wait a month, sign up for a month then have to repeat again next year.

I've come to join this thread having got my problems with Lionsgate via Virgin Media sorted. They are so crafty as I have to give 30 days to cancel sub so will have to do so almost immediately as only 8 episodes. (I know from having a STARz sub last year there wont be anything else I want to watch)

I could have done with a quick catch up, as spent the first part very consfused. Not sure how everyone seems to remember so much in such details.

I found the Tom plotline unlikely, and wondered if he had asked to be written out. In fact I would have been more convinced if his reasoning had been that as a family they had caused so much harm, and that he should sacrifice himself to not having "cleansed" the family of witches. But then maybe he says something like that in his letter.

Unfortunately had forgotten that I find Brie and Roger really boring. I hope they dont get too much air time!

But otherwise enjoyed it and am wondering where it will go not having read the books, in terms of personal story lines and developing history.

I too wondered about the dates, and apparently it is meant to be 1776/7 about 1 year into the American Revoluntionary War (which I thought was called the American War of Independence).

Is Tom played by Maggie Smith's son?

Me too. I wasn't going to but DH is out tonight and I want to watch it

KillingMeDeftly · 17/06/2023 19:19

I strongly suspect Tom is covering for his son. I haven't read the books so no idea if that's true or not!

Looks like episode 2 jumps several months ahead and if we don't seen him hang, it leaves the door open for the actor to return.

Maggiesgirl · 18/06/2023 09:25

The scene with Tom and Claire was straight from the book, so no actor didn't want to be written out.

The episode ran very much to the lines if the book, I was very impressed how the writers squeezed all the relevant story in.

Maggie Smith's son is the actor playing Richard Brown

MoChridhe · 18/06/2023 10:31

The Tom storyline is as it is in the books. The books are more detailed and you can see how Tom falls in love with Claire. Also not to spoil anything but remember as Claire said there aren't any judges to sentence prisoners to hanging or any trials taking place for many many many years, plus there is a war going on, so a trial may not ever happen and prisoners may disappear amidst all that chaos.

Is Tom played by Maggie Smith's son?

Chris Larkin is Richard Brown and looks so much like his mum at times that it's quite distracting!

OP posts:
mateysmum · 18/06/2023 11:32

Oh, I knew the actor Toby Stephens was her son but I'd not twigged Chris Larkin before now. Interesting.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 11:45

Toby looks very like his father, the late Robert Stephens, but Chris is far more like his mother.

IwantToRetire · 18/06/2023 17:05

re Tom - hmmm - shows how without the background that you get from a book, its possible (particularly with me) to pick up the wrong singles. I assumed from all his churchifying and so on, he would not admit to a moral sin of loving someone elses wife!

IwantToRetire · 18/06/2023 17:06

singels = signals Angry

MotherOfTheGruffalo · 18/06/2023 22:30

Watched episode 1 yesterday. I agree that it would have been good with a recap, I was trying to remember bits.

But otherwise a good start.

I hope they don’t rush through the interesting storylines like with Lord John and William entering Jamie’s life. Having read the books, I rather enjoyed the romances that bloomed for other characters too, like Young Ian.

Also, season 8 will be the last season 😣 How will they wrap it up, if the books aren’t even complete!?

I feel like I need to rewatch Season 1, it was just the best. The scenery of the Scottish Highlands, the Laird, the clansmen, the beginning of the Jamie and Claire’s story!

aqiarious · 18/06/2023 22:56

So I stumped up the £3.00 a month for three months. It wasn't bad, the first episode, so probably worth it.

I think The Great new series is lion gate and out soon? So I'll watch that too.
