Great views from that flat but horrible interior. Keeping the conservatory makes me think they don't want to spend too much. Improve and move.

Turmerictolly · 24/01/2024 20:27

Huge flat with great views but shame there's no outdoor space.

Goatymum · 24/01/2024 20:35

Love that bungalow (except the carpets!).

Turmerictolly · 24/01/2024 20:45

Hankering after a tartan carpet now 😁

billysboy · 24/01/2024 20:46

Think they need the flat but with a garden

the rest including theirs look dated

SwedishEdith · 24/01/2024 20:56

Thought they might have perked up the garden.

Turmerictolly · 24/01/2024 20:57

Kitchen looks great but not a lot else done so knew they would list it.

SwedishEdith · 24/01/2024 20:57

Knew it! Get advice on doing it up for sale.

Meredusoleil · 24/01/2024 21:04

Finally! Someone who listed it. About time too.

Actually thought they were going to say they would love it for a short while and then list it later on.

LadyEloise1 · 24/01/2024 21:57

I thought Phil showing them two upstairs apartments with no private outdoor space when they have 2 big dogs is utterly daft.
The house he showed them was too big.
Surely smaller houses with gardens in a seaside location were available.

ithinkicanithinkican · 24/01/2024 23:40

@LadyEloise1 I agree re dogs - I was shouting at the telly, you can't have 2 Labs in an upstairs flat with no outdoor space! And they were so clear about wanting open plan space for entertaining family and friends, so the last flat was hopeless! I live in Scotland - for their budget, I'm sure you could get something nice with open plan spaces, a bit of garden and a sea view on the West Coast. I'm not sure what Phil was playing at this week, really.

daffodilandtulip · 25/01/2024 13:13

I felt like they were going to list it from the start, when they reduced how much they spent on the renovations.

I spend every week wondering why would you spend thousands if you plan to move.

themessygarden · 25/01/2024 17:51

This was a bit of a letdown, none of the properties they were shown fit the bill, the update on the house was okay as it was clear they were going to list. Good decision to reduce the budget and not put themselves through all the hassle of Kirsty's plan. The kitchen /snug is still really impractical.

LadyEloise1 · 25/01/2024 19:44

It really was a letdown.
The snug was, dare I say it, pretty pathetic and the conservatory with 6 seats would still have their sons eating separately at the banquette if they were having a party ( they complained about the lack of space at a family do at the start.

But 2 big dogs in an upstairs flat with no outside space. 🙄
Did they ever think too about possible grandchildren and sons' partners in a few years.

whereeverilaymycat · 25/01/2024 21:08

It would be interesting to see a revisit and where they have ended up.
I thought maybe a two or three bed house with a smallish garden and possibly an extended downstairs would have been a better move. So they could still entertain and have room for family and dogs. Plus there would always be somewhere for their boys to come back to if they needed it.

lieselotte · 26/01/2024 20:09

Just watched the Maidenhead one - how on earth did they do all that for "only" £28K in that area?

New kitchen
Wall down
Big window
Bigger patio doors
Underfloor heating
Posh radiator

HOW?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/01/2024 20:24

Just watching now. Haven't read replies so don't know what they will do

Guessing love it as rest of series has been

Not sure what is wrong with the house tbh

It's nice tho weird place to put conservatory

Just watched this week - it was fairly obvious they were going to list because they wanted to live by the sea . I wonder if they applied for Location but the production needed a list person for this series especially as they didn’t want to spend much money .

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2024 13:30

Catch up tonight

I liked last week - keeping costs down on the renovations which I thought worked out well (though slightly puzzled by the chaise longue in the kitchen - that felt like a forward thinking purchase for their new property!). I like the idea of repurposing existing space rather than just building a massive extension. It also highlighted a couple of common 'home improvement' mistakes - pointless (and poorly positioned) conservatories that have no clearly defined function and end up becoming a dumping ground and over-sized kitchen islands (give me a table any day of the week). I thought Phil's search clearly demonstrated that a great sea view was easily within their budget - even if the perfect property didn't happen to be on the market at that time.
I actually enjoy the catch-ups because you get to see what they actually do in reality - do they stay or do they go and if so where. It's less of an academic exercise.

LadyEloise1 · 31/01/2024 18:32

There is a property renovation programme on RTE ( Irish State TV ) called Room To Improve, the Irish starchitect, Dermot Bannon works with homeowners as they refurbish their home. The present series finished on Sunday, it featured a 50 year old ( approximately) 3 bed semi detached home on an estate in a very ordinary suburb of Dublin. The couple spent almost €700,000 on the renovation. Shock
They did say they loved the area and the house / area was worth more than money to them.

Kirsty would be apoplectic as I'm sure the cost far exceeded the "ceiling price" for the estate.

Whatever floats your boat.

I'm sure the show is available to watch on RTE Player.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2024 18:51

Sounds good @LadyEloise1

I love Room to Improve!

There were twelve series on Channel 5 catch up. They might still be there.
