Made a decent job of it and I don’t think she was ever serious about moving

Missfelinemoo · 17/01/2024 21:02

I know that's a crazy amount and some people self build a house for that. I think the brick was the wrong colour and it was too big. It just looked odd. The inside was a nice finish.

Rummikub · 17/01/2024 21:03

Watching on plus 1.

Did Kirsty really say that house was a 2 up/ 2 down??

That's definitely not how I would describe it. It looks massive.

I thought that too. When she kept saying how small and compact it is, I was thinking she should come and see my house then!!! (It's a 3 bed 2 bath on a 4 bed blueprint, but probably smaller surface area than the Warwickshire house.)

Houseplanter · 17/01/2024 21:17

She fancied herself as the next Kirsty.

Rummikub · 17/01/2024 21:19

Mines a 3 bed semi. But with zero spare space. No little nooks, no wall space to create stairs up to loft.

On her plans there was 2 study spaces! 2!

Im most interested in the 2 drawer (?) dishwasher.

Rummikub · 17/01/2024 21:24

Phil: “let's leave it there”

Thinking “shut the fuck up!”

SwedishEdith · 17/01/2024 21:41

He's really pissed off at having to live in his MIL's old house. And a 25 mile trip either way to the kids' school!

I thought that distance was how far he travelled to work! Didn't they say the couple were both teachers at the same school? Must have been private with only 30 weeks in the school year 🙄

Rummikub · 17/01/2024 22:15

That makes sense. 25 mile trip for school run?!

Also no house that costs half a million should be described as two up two down.

SwedishEdith · 17/01/2024 22:18

Oh, maybe it was for work but I thought that's why she mentioned that it's not for that many weeks ("all that driving") because of the short terms. But yeah, the 2 up, 2 down was 🙄

Watching it I thought they were similarish Smile

I’m not fully up to date yet - just watched the deaf couple. LIOLI is one of my favourite programmes, but one thing occurs to me, once you’ve sunk tens of thousands into improving your house (and not seen a corresponding increase in value in some cases) - not to mention putting up with all the mess and inconvenience - you are surely less likely to say you want to move than if you were shown the fabulous alternatives before you started the work? The deaf couple were blown away by the Reigate house (and she said she loved Reigate) - I think if they hadn’t sunk all that cash into their own house they could have put it towards buying a new one. I know there wouldn’t be a programme without the renovations, but I’m not surprised so many choose to Love. I guess if you don’t already love your house you just go straight for Location Location Location

LadyEloise1 · 18/01/2024 08:14

I agree with you @LillianGish Perhaps that couple went on the wrong programme and should have gone on Location, Location, Location. Smile

Pipsquiggle · 19/01/2024 12:21

It was a bonkers episode this week. If you spend that amount of money on the house it was obvious what the outcome would be.

I do think they would have been better moving closer to schools / work. As the DC get older, it's just going to be a massive ball ache ferrying them around - there are nice villages everywhere

Floralnomad · 19/01/2024 12:31

I think it looked awful from the outside and I don’t think either of them were actually that interested in moving in the first place .

Catlady2021 · 22/01/2024 19:34

I just watched the Maidenhead episode. The four bedroom house on 3 floors was perfectly fine.
I can’t say I know Maidenhead but I understand it’s a nice part of the world.

The couple moved from Leicestershire to Maidenhead and had family still up there. Some could understand them moving back there.
But I don’t really get why they’d want to be halfway in between either place as they would have no connections and would still be a long way from either.

Felt it was a waste of time really.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2024 20:06

Just watching now

They said it's a two up - two down

Looks huge

And yet again they decide to stay after spending £220k

Don't think anyone has listed have they this series or even last

Plus 18mths later surely any houses they did like would have been sold months ago

If they pained it white outside May have looked nicer but def liked added on

LillianGish · 24/01/2024 13:45

I think once again, if they hadn't spent (or been committed to spending) £220,00, the first first house Phil showed them fulfilled their search criteria of being closer to work and close enough for the kids to walk into town in a few years time. Their house, with it's ugly extension (that seemed very close to the Velux windows of the next door house - I bet the neighbours were really happy) was still a 25 minute drive from his work and would leave them ferrying the kids around. I found it quite hard to appreciate the finished result - it felt like lots of small, fiddly little spaces perfectly suited to their lifestyle, but which could be a bit Marmite for any prospective buyers - the new kitchen actually seemed quite small. I think I prefer Kirsty's smaller (cheaper) tweaks that very often make a massive difference. Just building what was effectively another house on the side didn't feel that clever.

MadMadamMimz · 24/01/2024 13:57

The extension looked awful, literally a brick box plonked on the front and agree with the previous poster that the spaces inside were small and fiddly. It didn't flow right as a house should. They would have been much better served to put the £220k towards a bigger house that suited their needs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2024 15:53

Mum didn't really want to move as was her mums house
