I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

I knew you would have a spreadsheet, Reality

jenduff · 03/04/2010 09:35

I'm as shallow as you Reality I've been hoping that for years

Hermya321 · 03/04/2010 10:05

I keep thinking about it and I sort of think that maybe Gene had something to do with the dead copper, who knows though.

But reality the tension has to break somehow, it's been building for years!!

I was thinking about the shagging thing last night (in the context of Ashes, I mean ), and I thought that if I worked with them I'd just say "Oh, will you just shag each other and stop the bloody bickering." It'd ruin it though, if they did it too early in the series.

I wish I had a spreadsheet - could have kept from Life on Mars and compared, etc.

I was hoping they'd do the "if you can't wait for the next episode thing" but they didn't...

KayHarker · 03/04/2010 20:16

Just watched it again (before Doctor Who, naturally) and thought it was a really good opener. Loved Alex's new opening speech, and it was creepy and intriguing.

Gene and Alex getting together would rival Donna and Josh on West Wing. Sod what happens in the rest of the series

Thediaryofanobody · 03/04/2010 21:16

Another one who's waiting foe the to shag.
Surely the must before it finishes their just not the types just to have a chaste little kiss!

Thediaryofanobody · 03/04/2010 21:17

oops I meant waiting for them to shag.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/04/2010 08:07

I love the car too... But I'd rather shag Gene Hunt than drive the Audi. Actually, that's bollocks. I'd rather have the car. Or...? May I have both please? If I promise to share nicely?

Hermya321 · 04/04/2010 12:13

Belle I think that if you wanted to have the car, you probably would have to have Gene as well. I doubt he would let go of that thing very easily, but I'm sure you would cope .

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/04/2010 12:18

Hermya - LOL! My intrigue starved life could certainly do with it!

tiredandgrumpy · 04/04/2010 17:43

Am I the only one to have been disappointed by the first episode? Gene didn't feature nearly heavily enough and only a couple of memorable comments. Hope the series improves - have been waiting for this for nearly a year!

wintera · 04/04/2010 18:55

I thought it was a very strong opening ep actually. I thought Series 2 was a bit of a let down but from the opener of Series 3 it looks like it's going to be back on track!

ronx · 05/04/2010 09:02

UnquietDad
"And furthermore, what are they doing playing "Walking On Sunshine"?! That didn't come out until 1985!"

They used the wrong tune!

There was a song called 'Walking on Sunshine' that was out in 1982, but it was this one by Rockers Revenge.

[removes anorak]

BranflakeGirl · 05/04/2010 11:37

Well keep that anorak on cos...they used The Final Countdown for the trailers and it wasn't released until 1986. Tut tut BBC for not paying attention!

KayHarker · 05/04/2010 18:09

Well actually Walking on Sunshine was released in 1983 on an album, but wasn't a hit until 1986.

edam · 05/04/2010 18:15

Liked the first episode but spent most of it in a daze of 'ooh, I love Gene Hunt' rather than subjecting it to rigorous critical analysis.

HinnyPet · 05/04/2010 19:34

Haha, Europe wrote The Final Countdown in 1981/1982 so maybe it's been used correctly!!

Blimey Lunatic, you are organised! There is no way I could find a single from 1985 without a month's research in my house/my mother's/my sisters...

BranflakeGirl · 06/04/2010 08:56

HinnyPet - Joey Tempest wrote the tune that became The Final Countdown in 1981/82 but the actual song was not written in ful until 1985 so actually it hasn't!

BUT the lyric were inspired by Space Oddity which introduced the world to Major Tom who was also the subject of the song Ashes to Ashes so there is a very tenuous and nerdy link. But it still wasn't available as a song until late 85/early 86...even to time travelling British detectives!

My studded leather anorak is never wrong when it comes to rock!

HinnyPet · 06/04/2010 11:15

Gah, rumbled! And here was me thinking I was oh so clever haha !
