I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

OP posts:
RooBear · 15/05/2010 22:02

just watched it -omg!! can't really add to your amazing theories just can't wait, I think DH is going to combust!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 15/05/2010 22:16

im sooo excited about next week. im not even going to drink!!!!!

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 15/05/2010 22:38

In Keat's 6th letter he says
"And that is when I am at my most effective. My most powerful.

Forgive the melodramatics. I blame my father. Such a sucker for the theatrical flourish."

evidence that his father - the devil? soz if this has been said already

mrsruffallo · 15/05/2010 23:10

I think the dead copper is Gene, who was shot in 1953 as a young man.
He is supposed to be letting Chris, Ray and Shaz die (they are in comas) and Alex will replace him as the guardian of the inbetween world.
Keats wants them to die and fulfill their destiny. He is angry at Gene for not letting them go.
It's all a theory, but I have been thinking about this a lot
I don't know about Sam- perhaps he was supposed to take over but didn't want to?

SolidGoldBrass · 16/05/2010 02:41

I can hardly wait for next week either. I keep having to remind myself that it's ONLY A STORY. That someone MADE UP. And every now and again I kind of get my writer head on and go, haha, get out of that with a convincing pulling-it-all-together resolution.
I'm not sure they will be able to, I wouldnt be at all surprised if the ending isn't wierd and inexplicable and ambiguous enough to keep all the obsessives speculating for decades, just like The Prisoner. (I personally think such endings are a total cop out, one of the reasons I so admire JK Rowling is the neatness with which so many story threads are pulled together at the end of the series).

SolidGoldBrass · 16/05/2010 02:48

BTW does anyone but me remember American Gothic?

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/05/2010 07:34

Everyone's noticed the lapel number on the scarecrow, haven't they?

SGB never watched American Gothic...

Rocinante · 16/05/2010 07:38

IloveGregoryHouse - I noticed it a lot more this week as well, not sure if it's just because someone pointed it out and I was more aware or whether it is more prominent.
All of Alex's desk stuff - her lamp, her phone, files were red.

Another thing that keeps coming back is what Joshua said to Chris before he disappeared "I was weary, but you gave me life". Did Chris revive him by releasing him from his prison/coma so he could return to the land of the living?

fartmeistergeneral · 16/05/2010 07:50

I heard an interview with the writers on r4 I think it was. They acknowledged that the US ending of LoM was very poorly received, and said A2A was full of clues and red herrings - so I reckon the stars are definitely red herrings to make us think ' oh no, hope it's not going to be a spaceship a la US ending' when there's no way they'd disappoint the fans in that way. So, in my mind I'm dismissing the stars completely.

I'm wracking my brains to think what everyone is meaning by a body being dug up in 2006? Did I miss something? Don't remember any reference to it.

The 'moments' that they all have are definitely related to praise and come immediately after they are praised.

Shaz - Gene told her basically well done and you can join CID as soon as
Ray - was told well done by Gene after he was v brave in that fire
Chris - Shaz told him she was proud of him

The 1953 is deffo significant, but does that mean that they have been sent to their future rather than their past like Sam and Alex?

What was the APR13 reference? That reminds me of Gene's car reg plate which is JLY something or other.

fartmeistergeneral · 16/05/2010 07:52

And I'm convinced that Sam has gone back to the future (2006 or whatever). Ooh, is that the body everyone on here is talking about?

I reckon Annie died in the 70s and Sam just wanted to go back 'home' and Gene somehow facilitated that...

fartmeistergeneral · 16/05/2010 07:56

OK (I am so tragic) - have just watched the series trailer on iplayer, and the 'time is running out' thing is very significant - AND they showed the clock turning to 9.06 so that IS important!

Hermya321 · 16/05/2010 09:37

Wow this weeks episode was brilliant!!!

I can't wait to find out what happens next, I felt for Gene though when Alex ran out on him.

mrsruffallo · 16/05/2010 11:27

I vaguely remember American Gothic
The sheriff was the devil iirc

CalmCalmCalm · 16/05/2010 11:28

SGB there's someone at the door...

jenduff · 16/05/2010 11:51

May be way off the mark but I know how the beeb like to tie A2A into significant things - Shaz in the air hostess uniform - link to Brinks Mat robbery?

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 16/05/2010 12:20

Did anyone else notice that at one point in the trailer Gene is standing in front of some old Union Jack bunting? This could be for the queen's coronation in 1953.

Gene also has a picture of the Queen in his office in her coronation garb, I always put this down to being something that maybe the police had to display to show loyalty to the Queen, but maybe, if he is the dead policeman, he was killed on the day of the coronation or around the time of it?

ClaireDeLoon · 16/05/2010 12:27

Did anyone think that when Chris, Shaz and Ray were walking along just before they all saw stars it looked more like now rather than the '80's? I mean the street furniture, sign on the building etc. They're normally quite good at making things like the '80's.

ClaireDeLoon · 16/05/2010 12:28

things look like the '80's, sorry.

MyNeighbourTotoro · 16/05/2010 17:49

Tying in with draggedthroughahedge, does anyone think that Gene died in 1953, and his body was never found so he's in limbo. Perhaps the body at the farmhouse will be Gene's?

MyNeighbourTotoro · 16/05/2010 17:52

Actually, no that doesnt make sense. Ignore.

I think they are probably all in comas, and the Gene/Keats issue is life vs death as opposed to good vs bad.

FranSanDisco · 16/05/2010 17:59

It's definitey something to do with redeeming yourself in some way. Chris was all silly and giggly at Viv's funeral and then did a 'good deed' with Tobias. Ray went into the fire without a second thought for his own safety. Can't wait for next week.

Missed out on American Gothic cos I was in a very religious phase at the time. Might look out for it on some of the sci fi channels.

Totally agree SGB, I'm having to remind myself that it's not real because it just sucks you in. I really don't want them to spoil the end to LoM, and I'm rather nervous that they already have.

I think I might be the only person in the world who doesn't want to see Sam Tyler in the final episode.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 16/05/2010 19:40

That still of the Sam Tyler figure banging on the glass in the 'Next Time' bit literally sent shivers down my spine.

I've been telling dh about all this and he's now siggested we get all the A2As on dvd and watch LoM and A2A from the very start. He loved LoM but went off A2A very early on. This has got him interested again!

Honneybunny · 16/05/2010 21:47

rocinante-
interesting what you wrote about joshua saying to chris: "i was weary, but you gave me life".

with all the references to the bible, and chris's name, i was wondering if anyone has suggested that chris may represent christ? there is a passage in matthew 11-28 that says something like this; about burdened and weary souls finding rest. this might be why joshua then disappears: ie his soul can finally find rest.

and, very wildly speculating here...
could chris be gene's son?
wishing for this week to fly by
