I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

Having re-read my post in the cold light of day I realise that it is not so much a theory as stating the bleeding obvious.

I must learn not to post when tired

VJay · 15/05/2010 08:31

That was brilliant but I did miss loads so will try and rewatch on iplayer later. As for Shaz's Ray's and Chris's 'moments', it is always once they seem to accept their situation whatever it may be.

JackieNo · 15/05/2010 10:42

I thought that the 'moments' with the stars came when they got what they really wanted - for Shaz, it was accpetance from Gene, but for Chris, it was for Shaz to be proud of him.

Early on, Gene said something about 'the final chapter', and I thought Bible - last chapter is Revelations.

MadameOvary · 15/05/2010 10:42

My latest theory is that one reason that "time is running out" is because as soon as the body in the shallow grave is identified it will have disastrous consequences for them and their world.
When Tobias was on the bench and Chris said everyone was looking for him, he said "They wont find me" and then asked how Alex could possibly know about Mandela's release, and then vanished.
So was he "for" Chris? To lead him in the right direction? To enable him to think for himself?
Sorry, rambling now

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 11:06

If Gene is a good angel, do you think he'll do a Nicholas Cage ala City of Angels and become mortal so he can live happily ever after with Alex?

CaveMum · 15/05/2010 11:24

Rocinante you are a genius!
Do you remember in the first episode of this series there was a man who left clues using bible references? Well I've just looked up Book 6 (Joshua) Chapter 2, verse 20 and this is what it says:

"And if you should report this matter of ours, we shall have become free from guilt respecting this oath of yours that you have made us swear."

Squuueeee!

Does that not sound like a repentance 'thing' and the oath could refer to the police oath.

Interestingly there is a foot note to this verse that takes you to the Book of Esther, Chapter 8, verse 6 which says:

"For how can I [bear it] when I must look upon the calamity that will find my people, and how can I [bear it] when I must look upon the destruction of my relatives?"

I knew that bible my (very) religious mother gave me would come in handy one day!

Theories please!

Honneybunny · 15/05/2010 11:37

Cavemum, is it not Book6 Ch6 verse 20?
This says:
"When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city."

the city refers to jericho.

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 11:40

Ok, just thinking out loud, but here goes;

Shaz, Ray, Chris all dead and in limbo of some sort. Maybe some force is deciding whether they should go with Keats or Hunt.

Chris's death something to do with the whistle and violence/lack of compassion which is why he had his 'moment' last night.

Shaz' death some sort of stabbing. When the gang approached her she kept looking at their hands. I think possibly a tool maybe screwdriver as she freaked out at one on her desk the other week.

Not sure about Ray. I can't remember when he had his 'moment'.

I think they all died partly because they didn't stand up to authority. Not saying that caused it but one resulted in the other.

I think Sam and Alex should be dead which is why they're there but because they're not quite dead they have retained consciousness from their real life. (if that makes sense)

I was wondering whether we were going to have an old photograph moment like in 'The Others' were Nicole Kidman finds an old photo clearly from a different era showing the people she has been employing in her house ie they're dead and died a long time ago.

I really don't know about the dead cop with his head blown off. I keep thinking next week one of them is going to be shot/killed and it will their body which will be found in 2006. But whether that boy is the dead cop is something I don't know.

I do think it's significant that last night Shaz said, 'Your minds are stuck in 1953' as the dead cop and the photo of him look very much of this era.

Ok, rambling now!

CaveMum · 15/05/2010 11:45

Awwww, bummer! Did I look the wrong chapter and verse up?! That'll teach me to get too carried away! Still think mine fits better

honeybunny, you are right about it being Jericho. Though sometimes in the bible references to 'the city' can mean heaven [clutching at straws emotcion]

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 11:47

Ok, that verse fits a little with the deaths being due to blindly following authority.

Maybe Ray went over the trenches, Shaz was involved in a riot and Chris, hmm, maybe trenches fits him better as they always sounded a whistle to go over the top.

Am I clutching at straws?

brogan2 · 15/05/2010 11:47

@ all of us 'clutching at straws!'

JannerBird · 15/05/2010 12:33

I think the colour red is important in a 'sixth sense' sort of way. There are red things in every shot, not to mention the quattro!

jenduff · 15/05/2010 13:13

Wow would never have thought of all these theories - can't wait til next week

Rossco · 15/05/2010 14:08

www.bbc.co.uk/ashestoashes/

Have you seen the trailer for next week?

KayHarker · 15/05/2010 15:31

Gene on the floor and Keats losing his rag spectacularly. What does it all mean?

CalmCalmCalm · 15/05/2010 16:17

JannerBird I agree, I think the red has to mean something. I think it was on the Railway Arms that someone said red seemed to indicate LoM where grey was A2A.

Anniek · 15/05/2010 16:24

Notice in the trailer where Keats is losing it, the celing is stars!!!

The bit where Alex asks Gene, if she means anything to him

I am so gonna be crying for hours next Friday

OP posts:
Clydesdale · 15/05/2010 16:53

the ceiling certainly looks like stars!

the comment Gene makes about weakening him as well and where Alex says she's not leaving him

LongtimeinBrussels · 15/05/2010 17:00

I already mentioned the bible reference (though granted can't take credit for it - it was my godson who mentioned it). I thought when Chris, Ray and Shaz all saw stars it was a bit too "American ending".

I'm excited about next week but will then be disappointed it's ended. Felt the same after LoM. Must get a life...

Rossco · 15/05/2010 18:00

I noticed the stars too!

What about Shaz in the Air Hostess outfit? And did you notice the Quattro behind her all riddled with bullet holes?

Nymphadora · 15/05/2010 18:13

Keats notes if anyone hasnt seen them. He mentions the bible...

CaveMum · 15/05/2010 18:30

Keats keeps using the phrase "the scales will fall from their eyes". I'm pretty sure this phrase is used a lot in the bible.

KayHarker · 15/05/2010 19:32

As far as I'm aware, 'the scales falling from eyes' is specifically about St Paul when he was temporarily blinded. Can't think of another biblical use of it.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 15/05/2010 19:50

Just watched it on iplayer. Definitely think the red means something - it's seeping in. Anybody notice Alex's corner of the office is predominantly red? And Gene's filing cabinet was red - I don't think it was before. And the decor in Luigi's is red.

What am i going to do for a whole week?!

AnyFuleKno · 15/05/2010 21:23

Joshua, chapter 6, verse 6, word 20: covenant

Is this something to do with a pact? With the devil?

Chris's whistle fear - could he have injured /put into a coma at a football match - something to do with hooliganism?
