I am so excited I am literally sitting here bouncing after watching the 2nd trailer

It's OK I know I'm sad, especially as I really want the "Gene says relax" T-Shirt

I thought that Gene might have swapped the tins to prevent Alex finding out the truth. Perhaps he's trying to keep her in limbo?!
Either that or Keats planted the tin in Gene's desk.

Aw, brain hurts again!

Anniek · 09/05/2010 08:55

Defo think its good (Gene) versus evil (Keats), as this week Keats kneels down to Viv and Viv "dies" (kind of agree they are all in some sort of netherworld and depending on who "gets" them they either go to heaven (Gene) or Hell (Keats)), whereas last week Gene kneels next to Bevan, and although he scares him Bevan is still "alive" at the end

Also think Gene forgiving everyone, is significant - basis of most religions is forgiveness

Clydesdale
"i too am annoyed about Molly, no mention and no 'snowscreen tv' or 'out of tuning radio' voices and visions. Seems like ALex has lost all contact with the 'modern' world"

Yes it´s as if because she has "died" in 1983(?) she has gone back there in "reality" & has forgotten where she is from iyswim.

NathanBarley · 09/05/2010 12:19

What was the tin that Shaz and Chris were looking at in the dream sequence (they were in the middle of a field sat at a table iirc).

Please will someone who supports the 'they are all in limbo' theory address my point about why gene would have wanted to bring alex back from the present day to 1973 in episode one... I can't see how that fits with the theory

bellissima · 09/05/2010 13:22

Nathan - maybe Alex suddenly regressed and slipped back into a coma/limbo/towards death. She heard/saw Gene calling her back to 83, as she slipped back 'towards' him, but the actual cause was a deterioration in her medical condition. As we have seen, Gene can't always control who he 'wins' or 'loses'.

No great I know...

As for the lack of 'Molly' visions etc, then I suppose the cynical view is that in the first series of AtoA the writers weren't actually working on the ending that we are now heading for. If Alex is in limbo/already dead/heading for death then it would be a bit depressing to be reminded that she will never see Molly again.

I too think the burnt ghost is a young 1960s Gene. His Heartbeat-like life came to an abrupt end and now he presides over the waiting room for lost coppers.

Anniek · 09/05/2010 14:21

I think Alex is back in a coma, as she had to go back and sort something out

Also think she doesn't mention Molly because she sent her to her Dad, so it's not the same as when Molly was on her own waiting for her mum to come out of the coma in S1 and S2.

Watching the trailers for the last two episodes...wow

LongtimeinBrussels · 09/05/2010 16:00

Anniek, please could you put a link up for the trailers?

KayHarker · 09/05/2010 16:05

trailers are squeeful. haven't got the links The Railway Arms just went down again.

Nymphadora · 09/05/2010 17:46

Just watched it. V good and am on the edge of my seat for the next 2 now.

Any relevence in the words to ' blowing bubbles' ?

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 09/05/2010 17:59

Haven't got anything useful to add (again) but I too buy into the whole "in limbo" thing.

The only thing that threw me off the theory in Friday's episode was the fact that Viv had family to whom he had been talking and a cousin in prison who the others could have seen if they wanted to. One of the reasons I thought that they were in limbo was because they don't have actual families that they mention on a day to day basis or to go home to, and it just seemed to fit in. For instance Ray mentioned earlier in the series that he is not in touch with(or doesn't talk to) his family any more. Although I think there was a Mrs Hunt talked about in LOM...oh I am just confusing myself now

My final musing was in last week's episode the Roy Hudd character was wanted for stealing the money from the Police Widows fundraiser. This was the reason that Gene's team wanted to help catch him. I know that they must have these things all he time in RL, but I thought that was just a tantalising little hint at the Police Widows Fund being a bit closer to their hearts than it ordinarily would be.

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 09/05/2010 18:04

Nymphadora - I think there might be. Of course you can read a lot into any song lyrics but verse one contains these lines:

"They're born anew,
Their days are few"

The Chorus is:

"I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams,
They fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air"

diddl · 09/05/2010 18:18

I thought they were humming it as it is West Hams anthem & Viv was a WH supporter.

Nymphadora · 09/05/2010 18:20

I know the WH connection just the line about dreams/sky/death which reoccur in the series.Although the clue spotting gets obsessive!

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 09/05/2010 18:21

Yes they were humming because of West Ham, I just really like looking for the tenuous links (or coincidences that can be manipulated to fit a theory) in everything

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/05/2010 18:26

For those of us loving all the theories try this

I don't really want this to end, am loving all the clues, that may not be clues and speculation!! I think I will have to watch the whole thing again once it has finished to make sure that I hadn't missed anything!

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 09/05/2010 18:28

You could also argue why bring WH into it at all, if not as an excuse to introduce the song?

Viv said that his cousin could have had trials with WH, but this could easily just have been a passing remark rather than the excessive mentioning of WH and humming of the song that they actually did.

I need to go and lie down, I am becoming a bit obsessed now...

zen1 · 09/05/2010 19:24

Nathan in the dream sequence I think Shaz, Chris and Ray were playing pass the parcel and when Shaz opens it, it's the tin that was in Gene's desk with the pick of the young 50's policeman in it (prior to accident). Aren't they in the field where we see the news footage of where the body was discovered in episode 1?

zen1 · 09/05/2010 19:36

KayHarker is The Railway Arms a members only forum? Up until last Thursday I was a regular lurker on there, though never joined. Now I've just tried to have a peek and it says you have to join to look at the threads...

Clydesdale · 09/05/2010 20:25

Railway arms not bad but I prefer Luigi's - a better forum i think - esp as there is someone who turns all the episodes into transcripts!!!!

Did anyone else notice the lines of blowing bubbles song that Keats was singing as he reached viv? was " then like our dreams they fade and die"............

after rays comment about astronauts - i really hope they do not go down the usa LoM finale route - that was sooooooo rubbish

Pixel · 09/05/2010 23:57

Oh dear, just watched on iplayer and heard the creepy 'soul' bit. Not good timing as I'm on my way to bed now!

Nymphadora · 10/05/2010 09:23

Whats the creepy soul bit?

Anniek · 10/05/2010 10:19

Creept "soul" bit is as Gene tells everyone else that Viv died a hero defending that wing, you here Winston from LOM (?) say Soul, implying that Viv's soul has gone, not sure if this means Gene gets it or Keats

link to trailer

This is the one that wasn't shown if you watch ATA on HD.

Nymphadora · 10/05/2010 10:50

Will re watch!

CaveMum · 10/05/2010 13:27

Anyone think there is any significance to the voice belonging to Winston?
[throws random thought out there] Could Winston be another gatekeeper/god/angel?!

KayHarker · 10/05/2010 13:36

When people are saying 'Winston' are they meaning Nelson?
